I've been feeling some heavy fatigue with my illustrations as of late. Each one takes 5 or 6 days to finish, which feels a little bit too long, especially with high demand for new comic pages. For years I've been putting a ton of pressure on myself to make illustrations this Big Event with a narrative and some sort of lofty concept. The Party Chick series was me trying to dial it back a little bit, but the simpler concepts don't feel like they justify the amount of time it takes to bring it to a polished finish.

These feelings are sort of related to my Art and Fear post, and me trying to give myself permission to play around a little bit more and not make my projects or sketches in-between comic pages any more grandiose than they need to be. Sometimes you just wanna draw a dude spreading his asscheeks and it doesn't need a week's worth of work to get the point across.

Some ideas will still justify a more polished approach, and I'd like to feel the freedom to do so when those ideas come along, rather than force myself to labor over a project that I'm not passionate about. All that to say, I'd like to take it a little easier on myself with the illustrations. What that'll look like moving forward, I'm not sure, but it's with the intent of introducing more play into my work rather than trying to outdo myself every other week.

I hope I'm making sense, and I vastly appreciate everyone's support.

You need to do what feels best. Your the artist so create what you want If you wanna draw someone spreading their ass cheeks with little drama then do so, we got your back my dude

Kristopher Fulton

Dont let this ruin your passion. You do good shit. Take care of yourself and i will enjoy anything you produce

Glopossum

Literally just made a similar kind of post to my Patreon... In my Opinion There Is Too Much Going On

OllieOwlman

Have a nice break, hope you feel better after a good long rest! 🥂

Oninyako

I for one do not mind the wait between posts Take your time, post when you feel like you are proud of it.

chesterpaw

We pay to be here. I will personally support whatever you feel like posting, whenever you post it. Doesn't matter how long it is in between them. Burnout is no joke

Kodiak Bricks

Absolutely boss, do what you feel you need to do, we're here to support

Mike Weller

Take care of yourself. I love your work, but without your voice and passion, it won't be the same. Take your time and make it about you

Kejani

I've been wondering just how much pressure you'd been struggling with. I couldn't imagine giving everything such a fine and detailed rendering pass basically every single time, it's wild you pulled it off for so long! I, for one, don't really mind if you take it easy on the simpler stuff

Benji

Everything you do is incredibly polished, it's okay to save that polish for some things and have fun with everything else

Glopossum

But please do chase bliss and passion and do not compromise on your artistic pursuits over the perceived/expected reaction of your audience ^__^

Arktisk

Honestly, scrappy sketch art is always peak. If you want to just scribble, we're here for it =)

Everardo Villarreal

Whatever it looks like, you’ve got my support! This is your path and we’re just lucky enough to enjoy and view the energy and effort you put in, whatever the end result is! Thank you for allowing us to be an audience to your skills.

InoPony

Take your time and do what feels right! You've got to nurture your passion, not grind yourself into something that makes you unhappy

Fibinochi

Always make sure you put yourself first before anything my dude. I'd like to see what you have in store, once you give yourself the freedom!

Flax Seed

Meesh, I support you because I want you to have the freedom to make your own decisions with your time. Take as much time as you need, I'm not going anywhere.

Frostwind

Take however much time you feel like you need. No need of pressuring yourself unnecessarily

Thingymabob

Of course you don't need to fire on all cylinders all the time. That's how you'll burn yourself out. Gives yourself the room to chill and do some fun/silly stuff without the stress of needing it to be polished.

Glopossum

Also: Unsolicited reading recc of the day: The Artist's Way by Julia Cameron :^)

Monkeyspirit

Man, I've been over here wondering how you do it and have done it for so long at the level of work you put out. I'm struggling with a similar thing with my own art and style right now, to the extent I could've written this myself xD. Been doing a huge rethink over the past month or two to figure out how I can give myself the freedom to just "play" again and still make people happy who pay to see the stuff I decide to make. Hope you'll find your path again dude, we'll still be here for it! Let yourself have fun. It certainly shows through

Anthony Gaglianese

Meesh, you have no one to apologize to, especially not yourself. Take some time, draw something goofy, we're going to be here for what you've got to show.

impgoo

my rough sketches always get more engagement than the stuff thats crazy rendered out. people dont need polished i dont think. we love seeing anything you have to give

Michael Murray

It does make sense. I'm kind of going through the same thing. LJust draw whatever you want and have fun with it.

Zylvan Celestion

You make perfect sense. Take your time, and never feel obligated to put too much i to something, or work too hard on something for our sake. We will always support you.

Paige Hawthorn

We love your work and you. But please don’t let the pressure of perfection stop your talent. You’re ok to relax. ❤️

Akiba

I appreciate all your pieces, polished or not. Please take care of yourself and focus on what makes you happiest. ❤️

ApolloPumaroo

Yeah I was gonna say, it might not seem as polished to you since you know what you’re capable of doing, but to us even your sketchbook pages are professional and WELL worth the subscription

Ryedog

Sharing your passion with us when you just aren't enjoying making it isn't fair to you at all. You gotta take care of #1 sometimes. 💚

Vawlkus

Dude, if you need a break, or just wanna do something else, PLEASE DO IT. Burning yourself out doing what you think you HAVE to do is not good for you. Art is about drawing what YOU want, whether you share it here or not. Drawing should be something you enjoy doing, not a chore you come to dread.

Viro Veteruscy

I know the feeling. Take your time, we can wait. If something takes less time then it took less time. Just go at your own pace, no worries :3

Des

Do what you feel is right🙏

Atom

Hugs. It's hard work, what you do. And it's important to do it sustainably. If you've ever learned that you need to set yourself on fire to keep others warm, or that you're only as valued as what you produce, please don't believe those thoughts and feelings. You have a business to run and a career to manage, yes. But they all are nothing without *you*. For your loyal fans, we'll be here waiting, because we care about the artist as well as the art.

Silvador

Just here to say "You do you". Your art is great. And quality takes time (especially when there's a lot being made and/or irl stuff to deal with, as well). It doesn't matter, to me, if a pic gets done in three days, or three weeks. Take care of yourself, first. If you feel that you need to slow down, do that. And, random, no/low context pics are always welcome. Hell, so are rough, lazy doodle sketches. So, yeah. Not everything needs to be a big, polished project. Do what you wanna do.

David Lee

Just Doodle. Please don't feel like you have an obligation to make a big polished thing Every Time, or even Any Time. Just doodle some scribbles, make this a feed for doodles you're posting publicly at the same time, do croquis and post that. If something inspires you, work it to the degree you are inspired. Whatever it takes to manage burnout is more important than any obligation you've built up in your head about your relationship to your patrons here. Loosen your schedule if you need to, or anything else that helps keep your head together.

Blicky

you should also consider just taking a break! i’m down to keep supporting even in such a time

Onyx

Dude if you need a bit of a break I wouldn't care

AC

I’ve been feeling this same way. I think burnout is hitting a bunch of artists in different ways right now. For me, it’s that I have so much thrown at me from my 9-5 that drawing a pinup, or even a short comic, feels like it takes 10x the effort and 4x the time it needs to. While there is no shame in taking a break it always feels bad to do it as a creator. I know i’d be fine if all the artists I support took a month or two here and there, but I fully understand the guilt. Always wanting to make something better and better for your audience, and the stress that comes with it. Artists can’t keep up a breakneck pace forever, and we shouldn’t have to. There is just a spotlight always on us that can feel unbearable. I hope you can find a path forward that allows you to recharge and not feel like you have to go 100% all the time. Your art is always fantastic and inspiring, whether it be a doodle once in a while or random concepts you wanted to show. I’d rather see “less” than none at all. Thanks for sharing it with us when you can.

FMcB

the treadmill of life will not stop. but you can control the speed, in this case! find whatever feels right. formally declaring a new posting schedule and then going about it might even be too much. I honestly don't think people would mind if you fucked around for some months and along that process, found something more concrete forming from the primordial creative ooze. I assure you the eyes watching are just hungry because what you make is legendary, and not because they're ravenous and will tear you apart if they don't get more. the eyes that do exist like that can fuck off.

Doplayx X

You could do anything and thats enough. Even your trip sketches are awsome. Im coooming iether way

Tredain

Yes, please take care of yourself. We'll be here regardless!

Doomslayer69

Just take some time to yourself and relax, maybe have a vacation or something?

The_Menrvan

You consistently post quality artwork in design and theme. You’ve out done yourself each and every time. You deserve a break. Don’t imagine any of us are gonna be upset about it. You’ve made great stuff for years. But exploring more ideas you’re passionate about will be great and taking more time would only help you. Feel better!

AU

Take care of yourself. It’s hard when and/if your passions and livelihood collide and finding what’s best for you. You’ll have fans either way! I hope you’re able to have some more enjoyment and play! If you need a break or sabbatical- take one! I’m a musician and practice regularly, but I nearly always break through plateaus when I come back from a break. Good luck, we support you!

Remington Wolf

Hey I mean I'd be happy to see some just for fun doodles and stuff. I've been a patron for years because *I like you as an artist* you do you, I'm here for it <3

BearWasDead

Hey man, I just wanna say, Charisma Check is genuinely one of the best NSFW comics I've ever read in my life. The effort absolutely comes through in the final product, and you're making something that feels so real to me and speaks to real experiences I've had in a way that no one has ever captured before, or at least not that I've seen. Burnout is real and pressure can be hard to deal with though, so if you've gotta cut back, then that only makes sense. Just wanted to say it definitely connected with me, more than just as hot and good art.

S c r y b e r

It is completely understandable. You have definitely demonstrated and dedicated your time and effort into creating magnificent artworks and beautiful creative stories of what you envisioned in your mind. If you have the need to step back a bit and re-analyze your methods, then by all means, do that. Do what you feel is more interesting and passionate for you rather than doing something out of labor. I really do enjoy seeing your artworks and stories, and what you create. And I am sure you will destroy that artist's block interfering your creative path. And your mirror will shine brightly with new ideas you feel most passionate about. ; )

Vince

I relate to this immensely, and seeing your art evolve over the years to the standard you push yourself to now, and still keep delivering at the same rate you always did, always had me thinking "How does he do it??". I know from personal experience how that pressure can be so taxing. But just know I always appreciate anything you post, wether it's a quick sketch, a full-blown piece, or something in between. So please take your time!

Michael

Take as much time as you need and do whatever you need to. Taking care of yourself is so very important, and I would hate for you to lose your love of art because you're pushing yourself too hard. You are one of my favorite artists, and I would hate to see you stop posting altogether because of burnout.

Claybrook

Hey Meesh, we love you and truly appreciate your work. No need to be so hard on yourself, work when it feels like it, dial back and take a break if u wanna. We’re all in support and no need to be stressed out when the whole community is here for you!

Blake Lind

Hey, your comics and stories are absolutely amazing. But they are not the reason why I subscribe to your patreon. I have been following and admiring your work since like 2008 or so and now I'm in a position where I can comfortably contribute to that even if it's just like $12 a month. I love seeing all the things you do regardless of how much time it takes you. I just love your work. Comics, individual pictures, sketches, pictures of paintings, doodles. It's all amazing to me and I love seeing them. I'm not keeping tabs on your pace for certain projects and honestly neither should you. You come first and I support you.<3

High-bi password

I would genuinely love to see you just do some sketch studies, some simple backgrounds, playing with colors, whatever feels low-pressure and regulating. I’ve been a private dog trainer for two years now, and I find a surprising amount of overlap in our work output process. Every time you give yourself a release from pressure, I breathe a sigh of relief myself. You help give me permission to avoid burning myself to the ground. I would love to see what comes out when you focus on creating something that helps you to relax and breathe. Sketch studies, trying new things (in as small a way as you want!), nature stuff, backgrounds, whatever! Embrace the fear and do whatever you’re afraid would “scare away” your audience, then find out that it won’t :) An exercise I’ve been doing with many of the dogs recently is putting on my bathing suit, taking them to the beach, and helping them practice swimming where their paws can’t touch the bottom. I hold these dogs, whose trust I have worked hard to earn, and each one panics when they realize they can’t feel the bottom with their feet. They struggle and flail, and I keep holding them steady. The water lets them release all their emotions, all their fears, they kick it all out. As soon as their heart rate slows down and they start to move with even strokes instead of sporadic splashing and thrashing, I guide them gently forward. They’ll go back to panic, I hold them still, they relax again, and we move forward, until we reach the sand or the rocks. They ALWAYS enter deep water with much more confidence afterwards, become stronger swimmers, and it helps them better tolerate their emotions in everyday life. So, go ahead and do as many scary things as you want. We’ve got you!!

Shinyoko

A passion turning into a chore is something you want to prevent. What helped me both private and in business. Break the routine. One week a month where you do what you want, draw what you want at your own pace. Love your art and style, keep it up ;)

Weaverxy

Be yourself brother. I love your work, and when your finances depend on people liking your art it can be scary or stressful to try new things. You're one of my favorite artists though, and I belive that what you choose to do will be done well and get alot of support. You've got this. Stay strong and avoid crushing yourself under the burden of doubt!

Vito

We will love everything you draw, just be yourself ! You are my favorite furry artist !

Redvedev

You made total sense. When you’re plugging away feeling like you’re incrementally adding more to your process bit by bit it’s going to tally up eventually. The key thing is you’re able to take a beat to step back and give yourself a breather and assess what, if anything, you need to reconfigure to enable you to keep enjoying your craft. I think it’s safe to say we’ll all be here happy to see whatever you produce next! Do yourself a kindness and don’t burn yourself out!

J Olson

You cannot draw from an empty well. We love your art.

Tali Ramirez

Definitely do more experimental fun art!!!! That's the best kind!!!

Gunjiro X

First and foremost your art should fill YOU with happyness. This then fills us. without a happy Meesh noone is happy. So take your time. Draw what you enjoy. Even if it is just a sketch

Pon's Pictures

You have been putting in mad work in every piece you've made for the better part of two decades. Comic after comic, illustration sets with their own side stories, animations, and that's not even including the years of commissions where you'd do them on stream. Even when you're on breaks or vacations you still will share an drawing or sketch. And you've been upping the ante with experimentation in your pieces. It's okay for to indulge in a piece that's just fun for you every now and then! People will still love seeing it

SentaiNerd

There must be something in the air because I am having burn out too with my job, but I gotta keep going on with it. If I lose it I'm not sure when I'll get another. There's nothing for me to do about but be strong and take one day on at a time and I wish you some of that strength too.

SmuttySquid

Do some stuff that feels comfy for you, you deserve to ease up on pushing so hard for so long and your art is a huge inspiration, but everyone is susceptible to burnout. Take care of yourself! you deserve to pull back a lil and figure out what you wanna do with yourself. I, for one, would love nothing more than to see what kinda ideas and things you land on with some breathing room and freedom to just make stuff for the hell of it. So long as you take care of yourself!!

Bruno Hirschkoff

Exactly exactly this, dude. Being the monument of furry art as you are should mean you have latitude to do what makes you happy, but fully appreciate that such an audience as you have can increase the pressure you put on yourself (even subconsciously) to continually outdo yourself. I'm sure I speak for many supporters when I say the reason I am here, and have been for years, is not to CONSUME your art like it's groceries or a Netflix subscription (although 11/10 would consume party chick in a variety of creative ways) - it's to support you doing what you love in the way you love doing it, whatever that looks like. In today's context more than ever, rough sketches, gestures, doodles and whimsical disembodied buttholes are more valued than ever by folks who want to see the ARTIST in the art.

Bean

Seriously Meesh, if you want to take a break from illustrations and focus on just your comics, we stay, if you want to just post quick sketches and passion projects, we stay, if you want a two month hiatus, we stay. you will actually have more trouble getting rid of us than the latter. Please take care of yourself 🙏🏼

DC_OZ

I'm not an artist, but I know a few. I hear that experimenting with other styles can help. Especially if you develop a quick and dirty style.

Omagadude

I'm no artist, so I can only tangentially relate to what you're going through. But as one of my favorite artists for a majority of my time as a furry, Nothing's gonna make me drop my sub to your patreon. Sure, I might lower it like I did now, for my own financial reasons, but I'll still be here.

Kimi

Read means recording did a post like this a few years ago. I bet it describes at least half of your frustrations. OP1 12-26-23 “Feral” https://youtu.be/ZP3K5RN1Zps

Capital Will Kill Us

Look after yourself first and foremost, that's the most important thing.

Pembroke

We’re here because we love your art. Simple as that. The little passages of writing are nice, but were never necessary imo. And I completely agree with the others who have said that you could easily get away with a “lower” (in your estimation) level of polish!

silres

Would be awesome to see especially since a lot of your casual doodles with characters like taylor and stuff would have been awesome to see as finished products everything you make is great so feel free to just do whatever your vibing with

Mobius Scarf

Yessss Meesh artsy fartsy sketchy blue period let's fucking goooooo!!!! Seriously, you've produced such consistently high quality work for so many years, you deserve an opportunity to experiment and fall back in love with your artform. Follow the muses wherever they take you, we'll still be along for the ride.

Wolfen's Art

I’ve had to let go of my own ego and tell myself, “It’s okay. Not every drawing or sketch has to be this finished masterpiece that exceeds expectations every time.” Sometimes it’s good to just doodle around with no real goal or destination in mind.

Nora Krohm

Hey. Dont underestimate an possible upcoming of a hard burnout. Better to be off for some time and go in with a propper break where you do things for you and only you.

MiloMesmer

Everything you're saying makes *complete* sense from where I'm sitting. It's *rough* out there right now. I know I can't speak for all of your audience, but I like to think I speak for a good chunk of us when I say that your passion, play, and enjoyment over what you draw is more important than full polish and one-upping yourself each time you post. Take it as easy as you can as much time as you need to recover/ease from the fatigue/burnout. There's a reason myself and so many others sub to you and follow your content, but you as a person matter more. We'll be here for you with whatever you decide to draw, and it'll be ever better knowing you're not sacrificing your own wellbeing to deliver.

PlutoniumHeart

Any job is going to creat burnout, it's healthy you're trying to find a way to make it more doable for yourself. Party chick was awesome you got your point across perfectly and if you did want to just focus on your main projects I don't think anyone would mind Wip I'm between that just simply stay at that stage. If you notice it effects your income obviously adjust accordingly but I'm pretty sure you have a community that won't even bat an eye. You're a goat of the craft already you can afford to settle a little bit and do what doesn't make you want to pull out your hair

Silveo

I made a joke about waiting a long time on one of the other pages and I just want you to know if you make it I’m consuming it no matter when or how I get to.

Joseph Goldthorp

Yeah buddy, not everything needs the Big Polish tm. Love to see sketches or doodles. Try out new things. Give yourself some grace and patience. Burnout is understandable. Idk lol hope this helps you, silly Internet friend

Tokifuji

mannnnnn anytime something starts feeling like an obligation it's time to step back and rethink, be it a break or just trying something different you'll always be justified to do what you can to resolve that burnout = w =;

JK

Your art is beautiful. You are very talented. Please 🙏🏾 take care of yourself and be easy on your self. We still be here.

Burgafrickle

Makes sense, take care of yourself.

Tyranus

Meesh, you are a wonderous artist, don’t push yourself too hard, If you want to do something, we fully back you, They are your projects, you don’t need to bend over backwards for our sake, Take some time if you need to, we are always here for you 🩶

Alphonse

We literally don’t deserve you. Your output is unprecedented in the community. I’d rather you have fun and explore than suffer for making the art we can’t get anywhere else at the current pace. Meesh, we care about you.

UnDrewsual

No, get back to work on Charisma Check, art monkey! KIDDING! Do what you need to do to keep your health, happiness, and passion for the work. Don't push yourself to burnout and if you need to take a breather (or just do some quick, fun sketches) go for it.

patient_zaero

Akiric just paused his Patreon billing citing the same ‘need to catchup on life’ issue. So somethings going around. Summer, perhaps?

Dman0

Rome wants built in a day

Valdis

I would appreciate anything you have to show, especially if it were some spreader cheeks... preferably male, cause that's my thing. But have always appreciated everything you do. So do what makes you happy and brings joy, otherwise... not worth the stress and headache. Much love to you ❤️

Valdis

Agree 💯

Sid The Ursid

I support you because I want you to be able to create, and because I love to see what comes out of it. You feeling connected to your works, and not feeling overwhelmed are part of that. I hope you can find a pace that works for you ❤️

Tamber P

Absolutely seconded! You can't work your way out of burnout, that just digs it deeper.

Rox Goetz

Your health has to come first. It's airline rules: secure your own mask before you assist others. Take care of yourself, and please feel free to dial back the intensity with which you work. Your polished work is gorgeous, but your sketches are also wonderful to see. I'm sure we'll all be more than satisfied with anything you post, even if you're having a rough spot and give us stick figures. Don't forget to drink your water.

War-Bird

hope you are okay

Salfang

Makes perfect sense - I'm here to support your journey in any way that takes shape. Please express your artistic desires, and make something fun for yourself ^_^

Logan SpikedHooves97

I like sketches and rough arts as much as polished arts! I just love your characters and all the stuff you create! Id be happy with only sketches!

Kevin Clark

Hope you know this post made me pick up a pen and start drawing.

Tylor

When was the last time you just enjoyed drawing? Like some times happy acidents, and enjoying the medium. Your good at story telling, Conveying emotions, and nether doesn't nessiarly require high rendered art.

AverageNyxEnjoyer

Hey you're the artist, it's your Patreon and your community, speaking for myself because I can't say how anyone else feels, it takes time to make quality so don't push yourself too hard or stress yourself out (easier said than done of course :/ ) I'll be here for art whenever it comes out and I'm sure I'm not the only one. Nothing should take precedent over your wellbeing and mental health since you can't give your best when you aren't feeling your best, so all I'm trying to say I guess is don't stress out too much. The right audience will always be there and people who don't care about an artist's wellbeing or can't just chill and wait for things to happen when they happen are probably just too stressed about things they don't need to stress about. Idk, im kinda yappin at this point but at the end of the day I like the art, and whenever it comes out is whenever it comes out, no rush and no pressure <3
