😭 There are no words. This was perfect, and uncomfortable, and real, and funny, and and everything it was supposed to be. Still processing. So grateful for this journey with you all. 💛🙏

As another reactor I've been watching, who focuses more on the animation aspect than anything else, pointed out, they did so much full animation on that fight and so many advanced shots and they absolutely didn't have to do that, it would have been very good anyway, but it's that going above and beyond that they do that makes Spindlehorse such an amazing animation studio (who have also recently unionised which is great because working conditions in animation seriously suck). I really love the interaction with Octavia in this episode. A lot of the fandom are mad at her, a lot of people are calling her a bitch and worse for not being willing to see Stolas's side of things but... she is literally a child. She's a scared, lonely kid who feels like she's lost the one steady and relatively stable person in her life, of course she's gonna be mad. And she clearly thinks she's somehow to blame for everything that's happened, like so many children of divorce do. She's accurately diagnosed that Stolas stayed in his (frankly abusive) marriage for so long because of her. She thinks she's setting him free, at the same time as she's angry that she wasn't enough to make him happy. Angry with both him and herself, probably. But part of the problem I guess is that a lot of the fanbase for this show is quite young (even though it's adult animation, it's very popular amongst older teens and people in their early twenties in particular). When the fans aren't old enough to have learned to recognise nuance yet, the conversations around these things will always be very black and white. Anyway, I'm excited about you starting Hazbin! There are so many good songs you haven't heard yet from there, especially in season 2 (I've been wanting to show off a few covers I've rehearsed on the Discord server and maybe ask for some feedback but I wanted to wait until you'd seen the originals). Really looking forward to seeing you tackle the full episodes. I think the songs gain an extra dimension when you get them in the full context of the show and who the characters are, much like with any piece of musical theatre. And whereas Helluva Boss is a comedy/drama with musical numbers, Hazbin Hotel really is a full on Broadway musical, only animated. They improved the vocal production a tonne for season 2 as well, less pop production, much more musical theatre, I think you'll really enjoy it. And some amazing performances as well, in my opinion particularly from Jessica Vosk, Christian Borle, Jeremy Jordan, and of course Alex Brightman. Also, Patrick Stump from Fall Out Boy is in season 2 as well. Fun times!

Wow, I guess I’m not surprised that there would be some energy like that in the community. As communities get big enough, it seems to always creep in. I think of it almost more as a sign of how deeply invested people are in this show and these characters. Wild stuff. That is definitely in alignment with the way teenagers behave to their parents. It’s hard to make any sense of it as the parent. Thanks for watching Mike, appreciate having you in the community. 🙏

MikeTW

The fact that this is such typical teen behaviour makes the reaction of younger fans feel slightly ironic, as odds are they've almost definitely fought with their parents over much less significant things. But then, maybe there's a part of them that recognises that and their anger at her is caused by their own discomfort with how they've behaved at times themselves? Either way, Octavia clearly hasn't had it easy, I think she's earned some grace. Hopefully in the next season we'll see her relationship with Stolas improve. Perhaps with Loona's help, as they did sort of bond in s2e2. :)

Omg yes! Please make a cover of the end credit song! :D This episode makes me cry every time so hard... but I love it. Lovely watching with you! The furry creature at the party is another Hellhound. Both of the visitors are Loona's new friends she met at Beelzebub's gluttony party. I'm so happy she's got friends now. ^^ And yes, let's watch Hazbin Hotel!!! I love both of these shows. It's always great to rewatch "with" someone new. Makes me feel like I'm showing my favourite shows to a new friend (not to be creepy and parasocial at all... xD )

At the beginning you said that you focus on music way too much -- but we love you for that! Never apologize for what makes you unique 😊 A couple of facts on this episode. When the client tells them to kill her cheating husband who left her for another man, Stolas starts howling with tears -- sure, this reminds him of his own situation. This is why Blitz says "Well, cheating isn't that big of a deal", he wants to calm down his boyfriend. The dance at the end was animated by the same artist, who 3 years prior had made a fan animatic of them dancing to Sway by Frank Sinatra. It was so beautiful that the team hired her, and her talent made its way into the show. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=utI4EuhAcms Anyway, it's been so fun rewatching the show with a talented musical mind such as yourself! I am looking forward to watching Hazbin Hotel with you. Hazbin is Vivienne Medrano's story that she's been nurturing since late teens! It is incredible to see somebody grow up to tell the whole world about their characters. She's a great inspiration to everyone.

This episode has everything: great music, great animation, is funny is sad is full of action and romantic, the balcony scene healed my soul. And it has been so good ro rewatch it with you, I'm looking forward for your break down of the songs and of course if you'll make a cover of Merry Sinsmas I'll be happy. Can't wait for your Hazbin reactions!

Kimberly. O

So excited for you to get to Hazbin Hotel!

Marissa

I am so, so excited for you to start Hazbin. It was a blast watching your journey with Helluva, but Hazbin is my favorite of the two!

Sha_Nyx

Hey Tim! Recently found your hazbin reactions on youtube and came here to see more of them, and I stayed when I saw you reacting to this as well. Super glad I caught up in time to see the finale with you and can't wait to see your hazbin reactions, especially the new season 2 stuff!

Watching Stolas throw hands at Andrealphus was unexpected, but veeerrry satisfying. 🥊 I don’t know anyone who could watch that scene with a straight face! As for Via’s song, oy vey. Sometimes the non-custodial parent does become a stranger. My mother moved out when I was four and in a time before cell phones and social media, it was easy to fade from someone’s life. And don’t get me started about trying to make expensive long distance calls on a rotary phone. 🤬 Enough with sad sh*t now - onward to Hazbin! Whole new group of characters to get emotionally invested in and the songs. Oh the songs!!! It's going to be awesome. 🎶

•Stolas has been off of his happy pills for a month by the time of Octavia's song (what he keeps reaching for in the medicine cabinet out of habit) so he's a lot more expressive, emotional and volatile, basically his "proprietary" mask has fallen off. "Do it, PUSSY👹!" •The Hellhounds are born of the sin of Gluttony, which is why Loona is stuffing her face most of the episode. At the party, her outfit is themed as popcorn, Gigi, the girl Hellhound is an ice-cream cone and Russ, the male Hellhound that you asked "what is this creature?!" is a hamburger. Millie and Moxxie are clearly Wrath based. Blitz isn't shown displaying much Wrath because he's basically trying to be supportive of Stolas, but his accidental pyrotechnics is still amusing. 🎄🔥🔥🔥 •This was the first time we see Loona transform into the battle mount, so we don't know if this is a power-up or if she's always been able to do it •Andrealphus declares himself as a Marquis of Hell, a lower rank than Stolas's Prince •The Sinsmas trees have ornaments depicting some of the sins: Gluttony has the Golden honey comb, Lust has the blue flamed candles, Greed is the jester hat tree topper, Pride is the eyeballs(?), I can't figure out what the green pentagrams would be for but the candy canes are upside-down crosses •Blitz's hat and flags that he was waving around to cheer for Stolas say from left to right: "Believe in you", "Yas Queen" and "You go Gurl!" •The whiteboard in the office says "It has been 3 days since Moxxie sang"

Lisuna

Ahh, the song at the end, Merry Sinsmas is. So. Beautiful! The voice reminds me of Frank Sinatra and it feels like a sweet send-off to the fans too, for the end. Looking forward to Hazbin ;)

hannahvmh

i really love this episode, and the songs are so good. it’s such a nice ending to season 2. excited for you to watch hazbin!!

LaurenAnne

What a wild ride Tim, and we're not done yet! Glad you've enjoyed the helluva journey, hope you have a blast with Hazbin.

Ian

Such an emotional rollercoaster. Inside of 30 minutes we laugh, cheer and cry. What makes it so interesting, and occasionally frustrating, is that the characters aren't fully emotionally mature and balanced, so they can do things that feel sensible to them but just send things spiraling. And I'm not just talking about Octavia... Blitz and Stolas have their own struggles with processing feelings and have throughout the show. So when we reflect on the episodes and how we feel about them, it's more an exercise in empathy than assigning blame.

Rinnzu Rosendale

I knew hed get distracted by that background music. lol it IS a bop.

Rinnzu Rosendale

Idk how you can sit in a room with that hand pan and not have the urge to tap it. lol

Alissa Schell

Omg I never knew that about the animator of the dance! That's so cool!

Alissa Schell

Please do a cover of Merry Sinsmas, I would love that so much!!! This episode makes me cry so much, I love this show and all of these characters 😭 thank you for taking the time to get into this show and react to it all, it's been such a joy sharing it with you and hearing everything you have to say!!

Easter eggs I don't see talked about/referenced in other posts (you go Delunatic!) are: - When Stolas wakes up and there's horses...everywhere...remember that Blitzo's had this Thing for horses reoccuring through the show. The little keepsakes and stupid nonsense horse items like the golden keychain in the Look At This song, the horse plates in S2E9 Ghost F[bleep]ers, even the horse lessons Verosika says way back in S1E2 that he maxed out her credit card on. In S2E1 where he said he'd have horses with "cool names! Like Biscuit Queen or Stapler!" But then he says after Stolas asks if there's a story behind it and Blitzo says "There is, but it's way too long and way too traumatic" as images of smoke curl up around him...you can interpet that as either he's bad at cooking and burning breakfast OR more likely it's a double entendre refrencing how he worked in the circus, and probably his mom worked with the circus horses. There's just so many things that if you pay attention, it's like horses remind him of his Mother who he genuinely loved and adored. -Notice through effectively the whole episode, Stolas's pupils are visible. In the past, we normally only see them when he's having F.E.E.L.I.N.G.S. of some significant strength. And now that he's off his antidepressants, he's in a constant state of jarring emotions. It's a nice, subtle touch that the animators use to reflect how Stolas has always been mellowed by the pills and we just...never knew. -As they walk through the marketplace/bazaar on the way to the clothing shops, the imps of the right are still anti-Stolas. They turn away, scowling. I think we'll see that play into things next season. We also see how his interactions with them reflects his own "I'm more important" state, like how he skips directly to the register at the grocery store skipping the line and bucking the norms. Blitz finally has an outlet now for all of his chaos energy- he's trying to manage both the population's interactions with Stolas, and Stolas's interactions with the popluation, to account for both. Honestly this episode he seems the healthiest he's ever been, so my private theory is Blitz just...needed a job where he was actually, actively needed, which is why he's always been all over Loona (but since she didn't need him more than just a little bit), and Moxxie and Millie and her run the business pretty well with minimal involvement from him. -Spindlehorse is graffiti-ed on the alleyway where Blitz is boot stompin' rats for Stolas. -Go cross-compare "I Will Be Okay" from this episode to S1E2's lullaby "You Will Be Okay"- they're story-telling comparisons and crushingly beautiful for the callbacks. Everything else that I've seen was already mentioned. Glad you had so much fun like I did!

For an extra bit of trivia for those interested, Andrealphus's rank of Marquis is consistent with the Lesser Key of Solomon/Ars Goetia grimoire they got his and most other Goetic demons' names from. As is the peacock thing.

Nekai

I subscribed to your Patreon so I could see your reactions to Helluva Boss and Hazbin Hotel, and its been amazing! It's lovely reexperienceing it again 'for the first time' through your eyes. Thank you! And always feel free to stop and explain something voice/music related, we love that! It's always interesting.

Nekai

ALSO!! I don't forget to check out Mission ZERO, the remake of the pilot episode made for Prime :D

Rhia Legaspi

Amazing job! Tim! Remember to check out Mission Zero if you haven't yet. It's a remake of the pilot, so it takes place before the events of Murder Family.

CervenySun

I'm saying this quite late but as a Arizonan we're glad to have your daughter at the UofA.
