Alissa Schell

Hazbin hotel on broadway does have a few songs from season 2 which I personally would have viewed as spoilers if I had watched before I finished the season, just so you're aware!

Vaggie is Charlie's girlfriend! All of the diverse queer representation is just one more little thing that makes me love these hellaverse shows!

So, episode 1 is not actually the pilot. The pilot is on YouTube and actually also has a couple of songs in it, but the style, mood and voice actors are all completely different. It's not really important to watch as they changed so much, but as opposed to the original pilot for Helluva Boss, which is no longer canon at all, the events in the Hazbin Hotel pilot do still appear to be canon consistent. It's so fun that you're finally doing this, I can't wait to see your reactions as you get into the meat of it. Hazbin Hotel really is amazing. Its one unfortunate shortcoming is the format. When it was originally planned and scripted, they wanted much longer seasons than A24 and Amazon were willing to pay for. That's the problem with going from indie animation where you can do whatever you want to working with big companies that make the rules. So they were limited to 8 episode seasons, which means they're cramming a *lot* of information into each episode. This does affect the pacing somewhat. On my first watch of season 1 I really struggled with a sort of emotional whip-lash because I felt like I hadn't been given enough reason to care about the characters when bad things happened to them, simply because there isn't enough time to get to know them. On subsequent watches, this changed, and the pacing in season 2 is much better because there was already a really good chance they'd get more seasons when they started working on it, but when they did season 1 they didn't have that security at all. As it is, season 2 was greenlit before season 1 even aired but after production on it was more or less finished. Couple of fun voice credit facts: Katie Killjoy is actually voiced by Brandon Rogers who is co-creator of Helluva Boss and plays Blitzø. And Adam is, of course, voiced by the magnificent Alex Brightman, who plays Fizzarolli on Helluva Boss and originated Beetlejuice on Broadway. He auditioned for eight roles on Hazbin Hotel and landed two of them, Adam and Sir Pentious who you'll meet next episode. Vaggie, Charlie's girlfriend, is voiced by Stephanie Beatriz of Brooklyn 99 fame, who also voiced Mirabel in Encanto. The story goes that Vivzie found Amir Talai, the voice of Alastor, in a bootlegged YouTube video someone had posted of him from a stage production of Annie, where he played the radio host (the "You're never fully dressed without a smile" scene).

The wall said Beezlejuice. For Beelzebub from Helluva. Same stuff Blitz got wasted on. The two universes are canonically the same. So while this show takes a slightly more serious tone, the world building carries across.

We could turn Hazbin Hotel into a drinking game lmao, take a drink every time a Helluva Boss VA is heard in Hazbin Hotel!

Chiara

Some things: 1) it isn't "beetlejuice" but "beezeljuice", the drink you already saw in Helluva Boss, from Queen Bee. It's the same world, but this show is set only in Pride because Sinners can't leave that Ring, and it's less melancholic than Helluva, more Broadway musical. 2) Vaggie and Charlie are a couple 3) there are some VAs you may recognise from Helluva: Adam is Alex Brightman (the one and only Fizzarolli, he will voice another ilportant character here in Hazbin next episode), Katie Killjoy is voiced by Brandon Rogers, our dear Blitzo. You'll meet a character voiced by James Monroe Igleheart who plays Asmodeus and Vortex on Helluva

I’m so excited for this journey, Tim! Hazbin has a slightly different feel to it than Helluva does, but not in a bad way 😊 Here’s some lore-setting information to help you as you watch: Charlie is hellborn, which calls back to what Adam says this episode about Lucifer getting heaven to pardon hellborn demons (like Blitz, Stolas, Luna, etc) from being exterminated alongside sinners! Sinners populate in the pride ring (where Helluva takes place), and are forbidden from traveling to other rings, which is why there is the constant threat of overpopulation! At the time of season 1 Amazon hadn’t acquired rights to Helluva yet and so certain things needed to be reworded or omitted. And of course Blitz’s whole business is about helping sinner clientele get revenge on those who fucked them over on Earth. Don’t forget about the hierarchy of hell as well! Overlords (like Alastor) are higher ranked than the average sinner, but sinners in general are more powerful than natural born hellions, especially imps and hellhounds 🤘🏻 ALSO: Adam is the same voice actor as Fizz!!

Marissa

I am SO PUMPED for you to watch this! I personally wouldn't watch the Broadway show until you're finished. They play a lot of video behind the performances. I would absolutely consider several songs spoilers. One song is a straight up spoiler for a character's season 2 circumstance.

LaurenAnne

All aboard the Hazbin roller-coaster! Alex Brightman kills it as Adam. Such a good voice.

Super stoked

cashette

I can’t unhear Maribel

cashette

Any footage of your theater days? Come onnnn, that’s the kinda thing we’d pay to see dusted off from the attic.

cashette

Vaggie is also Mirabel from Encanto!

cashette

Vaggie lost her eye, hence the X

Torie

Remember that Erika is the person who sang "I Wanna F*ck A Ghost" at the end of "Ghostf*ckers in season 2 of Helluva Boss. That song was hilarious and your reation made it even funnier. :D

Lucille Waters

As someone else said, this is not the pilot! This is episode 1. I would consider the pilot as episode 0 (it's only on youtube). But don't worry, they made the series so you don't need to know the events from the pilot to get the plot. Maybe you can watch the pilot after you finished the first season. :) It could be cool to compare the new voices to the old ones from the pilot!

Thall

Oh man! Unexpected but really cool, thank you! Katie Killjoy, also known as Blitzo!

Anya

OMG did he want to voice EVERYONE? "He auditioned for eight roles on Hazbin Hotel" And haters have the audacity to joke that Vivz has him hostage 😀He's a hardcore fan!

Nekai

Fun fact, Adam is voiced by thesame actor that does Fizzarolli in Helluva!

Lorelorelore

I think I've pinned down why it's so soothing to me to watch Tim engage with these quirkier animated shows. He dives in with such an open, curious mind even when it's "not his thing." We get to watch him go from kindly humoring the audience by watching our geeky requests, to sitting with the cringe factor and genre mishmashes and emotional dissonance, to eventually growing genuinely invested and appreciating why people love this stuff. Tim, thanks for embracing the cringe! If more people were willing to be curious and respectful about stuff that "isn't their thing," it would be a kinder world.

MikeTW

Yeah, he seems to genuinely love being in these shows. :)

Queen Mistletoe

I am getting going...so. much catching up to doooo

GhostKat

I don't think anyone's mentioned it but! Alex Brightman, the voice of Adam, played Beetlejuice in the Broadway Musical. So I think the Beetlejuice Easter egg must be a nod to that.
