2010: The Year We Make Contact (titled on-screen as 2010) is a 1984 American science fiction film written, produced, shot, and directed by Peter Hyams. The film is a sequel to Stanley Kubrick's 1968 film 2001: A Space Odyssey and adapts Arthur C. The film stars Roy Scheider, Helen Mirren, Bob Balaban, and John Lithgow, along with Keir Dullea and Douglas Rain, who reprise their roles from the previous film. Hey Coby, I’m curious did you imagine after watching 2001; that you would feel any sympathy for Hal in the sequel? I have to admit I wasn’t expecting that little bit of a plot twist.

I’m so glad that you watched it. It’s not as epic as its predecessor, yet it had a great cast. Especially with Helen Mirren’s Russian background in real life. I wish that the series didn’t stop with this one. I only wish that the two remaining books in the series, would’ve been adapted into film. The last conversation about the sequels was discussed at the start of the century. Tom Hanks wanting to be involved, but nothing happened. The sequels would be perfect to be released now. Hollywood has the cinematic technology, to do it right. I would love to see Denis Villenueve, Christopher Nolan or James Cameron do it.

Are you familiar with any of the real missions to the planets and their moons? Europa has long been a top candidate in our solar system that may have life with suspected oceans under the ice. The Europa Clipper mission launched last year and will reach Europa in 2030. Perhaps it bump into a monolith!
