SATURDAY NIGHT FEVER (1977) - MOVIE REACTION - First Time Watching

Saturday Night Fever is a 1977 American dance drama film directed by John Badham and produced by Robert Stigwood. It stars John Travolta as Tony Manero, a young Italian-American man who spends his weekends dancing and drinking at a local disco while dealing with social tensions and disillusionment in his working class ethnic neighborhood in Brooklyn. The story is based on "Tribal Rites of the New Saturday Night", a mostly fictional 1976 New York article by music writer Nik Cohn. Hello everyone and welcome to The Coby Show! Hey Coby. First of all, I gotta visit Brooklyn Pop, if I’m ever in the city, because that place looks so freaking cool!!!! I haven’t seen this movie in its entirety since I was a small child, it was a lot darker than I remember. My mom loved this movie, and had the soundtrack. Side one is all Bee Gees. The other version of More Than A Woman is by the group Tavares.

Excellent as always! Very much enjoyed watching your full watch along and the opening to your YT edit of your reaction to Saturday Night Fever. Very cute opening.

I knew about the ending and have not really wanted to see this movie. I was able to see the frustration in the main character and how it became a lash-out without emotionally attaching to the character.

Michael Braton

The Led Zeppelin of reactors, that was great Coby

Dave Beth

I hate that I missed it. I'll watch the highlights later though.

First of all, I tip my hat off to you Coby for managing to edit the film so well...to be able to cut out of your reaction the amount of swearing that was in this movie and still put out something watchable where everyone could follow the story must of taken some doing. The film itself is so iconic and influential and is a classic example of 70s pop culture. Possibly one of the greatest "dance" movies of all time, it's realism of 1970s New York and Brooklyn in particular is actually quite depressing in it's authenticity but I'm glad it didn't hold back...demonstrating the many elements of rebellion, rivalry, respect, racism and jealousy in a 2 hour movie was quite an achievement. With one of the most recognisable soundtracks in cinema, this film brilliantly captures the sights and sounds of the time that defined an era. Oh, and Cash has never looked more adorable than he did in your intro when you were on the dancefloor. Great reaction Coby....as always., and loved watching it with the live chat with you and the rest of your incredible community...xxx ♥️

You did a fabulous job Coby! You made me wish for age 17 again!!

You should watch the movie “Thank God it’s Friday” with so many famous people. It came out in 1978.

I remember learning “the hustle” in grade school. Coby, any chance you’d let me create a YT edit of your Zero Effect reaction?

I love the dance moves Travolta stole from "Airplane!"

I'm a terrific disco dancer. I love having a partner ☺️

One of those cases where i saw the AIRPLANE parody scene before this , i did eventually see the full version and was surprised by how gritty it is , iconic dance scenes and soundtrack just right for Saturday Night .
