Back to some David Cronenberg with Videodrome. At least this time I was a little more familiar with his name and didn’t go in thinking it was a romantic comedy, like The Fly! Haha. Such a fun, creepy, weird ride! Reaction highlights to be released on YouTube this Friday October 17th, 9pm EST! 🖤

VIDEODROME (1983) - Full Watch Along

Videodrome is a 1983 Canadian science fiction body horror film written and directed by David Cronenberg and starring James Woods, Sonja Smits, and Debbie Harry. Set in Toronto during the early 1980s, it follows the CEO of a small UHF television station who stumbles upon a broadcast signal of snuff films. Layers of deception and mind-control conspiracy unfold as he attempts to uncover the signal's source, complicated by increasingly intense hallucinations that cause him to lose his grip on reality.

Hey Coby, the last couple of reactions have been so great, loved Magic! I’ll be sure to check this one out, I’ve heard of this but never seen it. Have great rest of your week.

Great reaction, Coby! "Extra goo and bubble wrap", "popcorn shrimp", "T-bone tomahawk steak thing" Your commentary was especially descriptive in this one (and accurate). Great choice by the patron who made the original suggestion. Mind trip movies are my favorite. "Existenz" (1999) is another Cronenberg body horror film that is kind of an updated version of Videodrome that I don't think gets enough attention. But Cronenberg does have other excellent movies that have dark undertones without the body horror, specifically "Eastern promises" (2007), "A History of Violence" (2005), and "Dead Ringers" (1988).

Coby mentioned she initially thought "The Fly" was a rom-com. Someone once made a fake trailer for "The Shining" that turns it into a wholesome family film, and it is perfect. It's amazing how the right music can change the tone so completely. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KmkVWuP_sO0

The first time I watched this, I'd hired it from a vhs rental store solely because Debbie Harry was in it and I had a bit of a crush on her from Blondie ( like most teenage boys did ).... turned out this movie was a complete mind trip that took me ages to get over..... Cronenberg at his weird, strangest best.

Thanks for doing some movies I can't remember whether or not I ever saw. I wonder if this will trigger any suppressed memories I had as a 1 year old.

Coby, There was nothing strange about this movie, and his hand was normal. I think you been watching Videodrome too much hahaha. I did not ever think I would see someone do a movie reaction to this movie. I had not seen this in such a long time, great rewatching it again. Now you have to see Cronenberg's Dead Ringers (1988) Scanners (1981) eXistenZ (1999) Debbie Harry has been in a few movies.

You're the only reactor I've ever seen react to a Cronenberg film, forced me to subscribe! Hoping to see eXistenZ in your future!

Even crazier than I expected it to me! Man that was fun to watch for the first time. If anyone is interested in seeing how they did the visual effects, check out Corridor Crew's explanations. Just search Corridor Crew and Videodrome and you should be able to find it on YouTube.
