IN THE MOUTH OF MADNESS (1994) - Full Watch Along

In the Mouth of Madness is a 1994 American supernatural horror film directed and scored by John Carpenter and written by Michael De Luca. It stars Sam Neill, Julie Carmen, Jürgen Prochnow, David Warner and Charlton Heston. Neill stars as John Trent, an insurance investigator who visits a small town while looking into the disappearance of a successful author of horror novels, and begins to question his sanity as the lines between reality and fiction seem to blur. Informally, the film is the third and final installment in what Carpenter refers to as his "Apocalypse Trilogy", preceded by The Thing (1982) and Prince of Darkness (1987).

This is 1/3rd of John Carpenter's Apocalypse Trilogy along with The Thing and Prince of Darkness. The 3 movies are often looked at as Carpenter's take on H.P. Lovecraft with this movie being the most Lovecraftian of the bunch! All are basically various looks at how the human race could be wiped out, and all 3 are very different forms of horror. Great reaction as always, Coby! Glad you enjoyed it!

Nice reaction! I like this film as it was an interesting take, made in the period when a number of horror directors went meta over their legacy. Coby, you were trying to remember what John Carpenter films that you watched. You watched Escape from New York, in addition to Halloween and The Thing. Another popular one of his, which is probably the third most reacted to, is Big Trouble in Little China. Also, you probably wouldn't recognize the actor because he was so young, but the kid on the bike near the end is Hayden Christensen (Anakin from Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith).

This is one of those movies I had heard about for years but had never seen. And yes, it has a Stephen King feel. I always enjoy movies that keep me wondering what's real and what's not. Jacob's Ladder (1990) is a movie you should watch.
