Patreon request for this cool Val Kilmer movie that I was totally unfamiliar with… Can’t believe he’s been gone almost a year. Man, he was great. RIP Val. Hope you enjoy this 90s thriller! 🖤

THUNDERHEART (1992) - Full Watch Along

Thunderheart is a 1992 American Neo-Western mystery film directed by Michael Apted from a screenplay by John Fusco. The film is a loosely based fictional portrayal of events relating to the Wounded Knee incident in 1973, when followers of the American Indian Movement seized the South Dakota town of Wounded Knee in protest against federal government policy regarding Native Americans. Incorporated in the plot is the character of Ray Levoi, played by actor Val Kilmer, as an FBI agent with Sioux heritage investigating a homicide on a Native American reservation. Sam Shepard, Graham Greene, Fred Ward and Sheila Tousey star in principal supporting roles.

I remember loving this movie. Now I’m going to have to buy a new copy. Damn you!

I went to the theaters when this came out. I remember seeing Basic Instinct playing on one screen and Thunderheart playing on another. My group of friends were split. Some wanted 'Sexy Sharon Stone' and some of us wanted the amazing Val Kilmer. I was one that saw Thunderheart and I still think I made the right choice! Great movie! Thank you for watching, Coby!

I have a vague familiarity with the theatrical poster and I can only assume I saw the case while browsing in Blockbuster Video back in the day...as far as I recall, I never rented it and I'm fairly sure I haven't seen it pop up on any of my streaming services or on any British TV channel...., which is pretty surprising especially since Val's sad passing.. I'll look forward to when the highlights hit YouTube.

The Native American cop that you were trying to place? That was Walter Crow Horse and he was played by Graham Greene. He was in Dances with Wolves, The Green Mile and in the TV show Northern Exposure among many other things. Hope that helps connect the dots for you! :)

Oh, if you’re interested in more movies featuring American Indians I would suggest SMOKE SIGNALS. It includes the song JOHN WAYNE’S TEETH which alone should be worth watching it for 😜

It has been a long time since I seen this one, good to see it again, did not remember most of it until I saw it again.
