APOCALYPSE NOW (1979) - Full Watch Along

Apocalypse Now is a 1979 American psychological epic war film produced and directed by Francis Ford Coppola (credited as Francis Coppola). The screenplay, written by Coppola and John Milius, with narration by Michael Herr, is loosely inspired by the 1899 novella Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad, with the setting changed from late 19th-century Congo to the Vietnam War. The film follows a river journey from South Vietnam into Cambodia undertaken by Captain Willard (Martin Sheen), who is on a secret mission to assassinate Colonel Kurtz (Marlon Brando), a renegade Special Forces officer who is accused of murder and presumed insane. The ensemble cast also features Robert Duvall, Frederic Forrest, Albert Hall, Sam Bottoms, Laurence Fishburne, Dennis Hopper, and Harrison Ford.

Coby lovin’ the smell of napalm in the morning! Great to see. Funnily enough this is the only cut I haven’t watched. I have Redux on DVD and I caught a screening of the Final Cut, but never the original. Masterful stuff nevertheless I’m sure. Another great classic on the channel, again, great to see

Rest in peace, Robert Duvall

A true masterpiece of cinema....and one I cannot wait to watch along with you Coby... Happy Sunday to you and Cash.

Oh the lines ... "Terminate his command" ... "smells like" ... Those lines of course live on. But its the insanity that really sticks with you forever. The visuals ... Wagner playing ... and the stories behind it? Its amazing that this movie made it to the finish line.

the final cut is long and boring, Redux has extra scenes, like martin sheen steals Robert Duvals surfboard and Robert Duval chases him for awhile, plus the ending is better.

A real water buffalo was killed in the final scene of Apocalypse Now. Director Francis Ford Coppola filmed an actual ritual slaughter to create a symbolic parallel to Colonel Kurtz's death. Brando disliked Dennis Hopper; he said Hopper was loud, erratic, and constantly improvising. When the two first met, Brando reportedly lashed out at Hopper, calling him a "weird little man." Hopper responded by mocking Brando's ego, further fueling the friction. Coby should watch Easy Rider with Dennis Hopper.
