FULL METAL JACKET (1987) - Full Watch Along

Full Metal Jacket is a 1987 war film directed and produced by Stanley Kubrick from a screenplay he co-wrote with Michael Herr and Gustav Hasford. The film is based on Hasford's 1979 autobiographical novel The Short-Timers. It stars Matthew Modine, R. Lee Ermey, Vincent D'Onofrio, Adam Baldwin, Dorian Harewood, and Arliss Howard. The storyline follows a platoon of U.S. Marines through their boot camp training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island, South Carolina. The first half of the film focuses primarily on privates J. T. Davis and Leonard Lawrence, nicknamed "Joker" and "Pyle" respectively, who struggle under their abusive drill instructor, Gunnery Sergeant Hartman. The second half portrays the experiences of Joker and other Marines in the Vietnamese cities of Da Nang and Huế during the Tet Offensive of the Vietnam War. The film's title refers to the full metal jacket bullet used by military servicemen.

Obviously haven't watched the whole thing yet, but the blurriness isn't really that distracting. Good choice!

I'll have a couple of beers first Coby....just to add to my terrible eyesight. Then, I'll hold my phone upside down and watch it in the reflection of a mirror with a pair of sunglasses on.... That way, I can promise you that I will not notice any blurrage whatsoever..... Thanks for the upload...see you for Annie Hall at 2am.... (Hopefully my 2am, not your 2am, otherwise it'll be my 7am and my "reaction donut snack" would have to be my "reaction bowl of cornflakes breakfast snack")

ehh... the blur ain't that bad Coby. The way it sounded I was expecting it to be like a bokeh blurred photograph or worse. This ain't bad at all!thanks for going ahead and posting it!

Bruce Bromley

That's not burry, that's just soft focus. Saw that on classic Star Trek all the time.

Jay Davis

On the little monitor next to the TV at 360p, it's barely noticeable. Thank for posting it!

Brett

The blurry wasn't that bad. I could have sworn I heard your dog bark a few times during it though.

Eddie Perkins

That wasn't that blurry. After a couple of minutes, I didn't even notice it that much.

R. Lee Ermey, Sgt. Hartmann, was injured in a bad car accident just prior to filming the bootcamp scenes. His doctors advised him to take several weeks of rest in order to recover from several cracked and broken ribs he suffered in the crash. Instead, when you see him performing as Hartmann, he's in extreme pain but he literally "soldiers through" and submits that performance you see in the movie. Between takes, he was seen bending over and groaning in pain and struggling to breathe, but when shooting began, he'd ignore it and focus on the task at hand. He was one tough marine! The movie is a heavy movie to watch, there's no doubt.
