Well if we’re filming in France, we’re starting French! Raw, gritty, confronting and French! This came up as one of the best French films when I searched, and since I love Vincent Cassel, it was no question what I watched first while here! Hope you enjoy! Reaction highlights next week. 🖤

LA HAINE (1995) - Full Watch Along

La Haine (released in the United States as Hate) is a 1995 French social thriller film written, co-edited, and directed by Mathieu Kassovitz. Starring Vincent Cassel, Hubert Koundé and Saïd Taghmaoui, the film chronicles a day and night in the lives of three friends from a poor immigrant neighbourhood in the suburbs of Paris. The title derives from a line spoken by one of them, Hubert: "La haine attire la haine!", "hatred breeds hatred". Kassovitz was awarded the Best Director prize at the 1995 Cannes Film Festival.

Bon jour Coby. Hope you’re loving your time in the City of Lights.

I remember enjoying "The City of Lost Children" and, while it was a good movie, I remember not enjoying "Irreversible" (it was a difficult watch). Both are French and worth watching at least once

One of the BEST French films is without doubt "Betty Blue" - must be a Gen X thing!!

I watched this movie just after it came out in '95-'96, I was 15. It's a really striking film, not your typical black-and-white Marvel stuff... Mathieu Kassovitz, the director, plays the skinhead because no one wanted to take the role (you can also see him in The Fifth Element, the guy with the hat who's robbing Bruce Willis at the beginning). Hope you'll do more reactions to French films, you'll see Amélie is way more feel-good.
