BLAZING SADDLES (1974) - MOVIE REACTION - First Time Watching

Blazing Saddles is a 1974 American satirical Western comedy film directed by Mel Brooks, who co-wrote the screenplay with Andrew Bergman, Richard Pryor, Norman Steinberg and Alan Uger, based on a story treatment by Bergman. The film stars Cleavon Little and Gene Wilder. Brooks appears in two supporting roles: Governor William J. Le Petomane, and a Yiddish-speaking Native American chief; he also dubs lines for one of Lili Von Shtupp's backing troupe and a cranky moviegoer. The supporting cast includes Slim Pickens, Alex Karras and David Huddleston, as well as Brooks regulars Dom DeLuise, Madeline Kahn and Harvey Korman. Bandleader Count Basie has a cameo as himself, appearing with his orchestra. Hello everyone and welcome to The Coby Show! Thank you for supporting me and I hope you have a good time here! And I JUST finished watching the Full Watch Along! What a farce! What a delight!

Looking forward to your reaction. This is on my list of favorite silly farcical comedies, though I think SpaceBalls was better. Everything Mel Brooks does is hilarious. There’s a famous line in this movie that I’m looking forward to seeing if you recognize (“we don’t need no stinkin badges”) . It actually spoofs a Humphrey Bogart film, The Treasure of the Sierra Madre. By the way, have you ever seen The Producers? I’m guessing you have. If you haven’t seen The Producers, I’d love to see you react to it.

Mel Brooks at his very vey best! Happy 1 Century years young to the genius of our comedy lifetimes! Gene Wilder & Cleavon Little's chemistry is Redford & Newman like! Just a full chef's kiss ! Harvey Corman , Slim Pickens & Madeline Kahn incredibly hilarious! I'll be there!

Amazing reaction!!! Although I liked the movie Space Balls more, as far as reactions, I think this was one of your very best, which says a lot since your reactions are all great. So you’ve never seen The Producers? I’m wondering if you perhaps might have seen small parts of it kinda in the Larry David series “Curb Your Enthusiasm.” There was an entire season about Larry getting the lead role to replace Nathan Lane in the broadway production of The Producers. It was also the Season of Larry and Cheryl’s 10-year wedding anniversary. Mel Brooks was in several episodes that season. I hope you someday do a reaction to The Producers. A few tidbits of trivia… 1. Yes, Madeleine Kahn was in both Clue and What’s up Doc. 2. You were correct about which character Slim Pickens was. Slim was a Rodeo performer turned actor. He was the in Dr. Strangelove ( or hiltraltb). He was the guy in the bomber who rode the nuke. 3. Regarding Heddy Lamar, she was reportedly unhappy with her name being spoofed and she sued Warner Bros Studio. Mel Brooks was a huge fan of Heddy Lamar. He meant the parody to honor her. He said he would not fight the suit and that Heddy should be paid. Warner therefore settled and officially apologized to Heddy Lemar. 4. No actual horses were harmed in the movie. They were all trained stunt horses that were well trained to fall on their sides. 5. Lots of people think Blazing Saddles could never be made today because of the racism. That is probably true, but if true it’s based on a misconception of Mell Brooks. He uses humor to insult racism, antisemitism , and any form of bigotry. It’s his way of giving the middle finger to bigots. He’s done it quite often.

GREAT REACTION!🥹🤣Most modern reactors don't take a classic like this in context both as a parody of westerns and poking fun at the stupidity of prejudice and racism. Mel Brooks himself in interviews said that this could barely be made in the 70's let alone today. Comedy legend Richard Pryor was supposed to play the sheriff (Cleavon Little) but Mel got him to help write the script so he's partially responsible for a ton of the racey jokes. Thank you so much. That was fun.😆😂🥰👌🏆💯👏

Just watched the Youtube video. Loved the reaction and like all of Brook's movies, it sometimes takes a couple of watches to get all the references/jokes as they come so fast. A complete commentary on racism in the 70's. Young Frankenstein is still my favourtite Mel Brooks movie, but Blazing Saddles is a close second. FYI, saying this so that the YouTube doesn't pull down your review and the channel potentially get a strike, but at 4:18 your editor missed blanking the N word.

Two people you might have recognised but couldn't quite place - Slim Pickens (from Dr. Strangelove - who literally went down with the bomb) and David Huddleston, who played the title role in The Big Lebowski.

Watched this 100 times as I grew up --- it clearly made me learn about the idiots vs the heroes - and not about color. Pryor helped write it - obvious - what a masterpiece.
