The neck is both a connector and a guide, supporting the weight of the head while allowing fluid movement and alignment. Neck decompression explores this relationship, designed to release tension and restore ease.

Elongating the neck

Begin by gently pressing your chin back with your fingers, creating a "double chin" sensation. This motion elongates the neck by activating the deep cervical flexors and restoring alignment between the head and spine. Feel the subtle lengthening as your neck "grows tall."

Vertical decompression

Interlace your fingers and place them at the base of your skull. While maintaining the double chin position, gently pull upward, creating a feeling of lightness in your neck. Simultaneously, depress your shoulders away from your ears to amplify the decompression. Imagine your head floating upward as if suspended by a string while your shoulders release downward like roots finding the ground.

Lateral and circular exploration

With your neck elongated and shoulders grounded, begin to explore decompression in different directions. Gently shift your head from side to side; you can use your hands as guides if needed. Then, add a front-to-back motion to your side-to-side shifts, softly circling your head and tracing an invisible halo. Keep all your movements smooth, steady, and within your comfort zone, prioritizing ease over range.
