There are times in the career of Jose Aldo where the typically flawless Aldo gets caught in a comical blunder. The first was when he ran face first into a Conor McGregor left.

The other comes from this sequence against Petr Yan in round 1 of their bantamweight title fight.

Aldo gets deep on a takedown against Yan.

Runs the corner and goes for a trip.

Drives and accidentally spikes his own head into the canvas. This is where it all goes wrong for Aldo.

Disoriented, Aldo instinctively pulls guard.

But clearly not recovered, he takes a hard shot to the head.

Then a shot to the body.

Which badly hurts Aldo.

Aldo is nearly finished but is saved by the bell.

Aldo never recovers after this point. He stays in the fight but ultimately succumbs to cumulative punishment at 3:24 of the 5th round.
