Fascism Alone Does Not Explain White Supremacy (Patreon)

Fascism overlaps with but is not white supremacy. Fascism needs a charismatic leader, whereas white supremacy, the same as misogyny, has no leader. It's decentralized. You can get rid of one bigot, but you can't get rid of the idea because it's unownable. This is why you can be antifascist or antiauthoritarian while STILL upholding misogyny and supremacy.

Many will oppose a fascist-supremacist authoritarian like Trump but not the hegemony they benefit from (like white social conventions, customs, gaze, psychology, culture, and politics as the standard). They oppose the authoritarian, but not necessarily the white hegemony they came from, or that there even IS a white hegemony. (Now that Trump is gone, look at how many are now done with fighting white supremacy and have moved on.)

White supremacy doesn't need you to follow a leader or join an organization. It just needs all the beliefs and expectations you hold to be normal to remain unexamined.

Just because someone says the overt stuff doesn't necessarily make them a leader. It just means they're saying the quiet stuff out loud. But to think supremacy ONLY exists when someone is saying it out loud or when a person is popular DOES NOT MEAN the ideas are not popular. These are the limits of antiauthoritarianism as the primary political lens, though it is convenient to avoid self-examination for those in the white republic. This is also why for many whitewingers, authoritarianism is their main bogeyman. Of course, one can claim they aren't real antiauthoritarians, but that's naïve (or deliberately misleading). Many of them are fine with no Trump or any leadership because, unlike some on the Left, they understand that they'll STILL benefit from the hegemony even without leaders or authoritarians—that the hegemony can grow stronger when it's lowkey. Just as capitalism has no leader, and they still benefit. And as a part of white hegemony, it also grows better lowkey.
