Gorilla Squat (Patreon)
Content
The gorilla squat is not only good for conditioning but is excellent prep for kicking flexibility. Start with a forward fold, then dead hang. Relax your neck and arms. Chill here for a bit. Shake things out. Sway if you want. Walk your hands back if you want. You can even stretch side to side using your legs as anchors.
Once you're relaxed, grab the front of your feet with your index and middle fingers (this is to latch you onto your feet to help you balance). Then sit into a squat as you pull your chest up proud like a gorilla. Just like the dead hang, relax into your sit to get into your depth. If anything hurts or feels unstable, pull back. Be aware of your knees and back.
With your fingers latched to your feet, forward fold again, then squat and repeat.
Feel free to adjust your feet if you need to. Be aware of how your feet want to adjust because you'll need to bring that awareness to adjusting your feet while in your fighting stance.
Inhale during the forward fold, exhale and squeeze your abs during the squat.
When you're done, sit into your squat and stand back up.
