Passive Side Steps (Patreon)
Content
How I like to get used to resting my arms on my rib cage is to lift my arms, then set them down on my ribs.
Now with side steps, just like moving forward and back, I lead with the near side. So when I go to the right, I lead with the right. There are several ways of moving laterally, but just as with advancing and retreating, let's start with walking. I lead heel-toe to mimic natural walking. But with my trailing leg, I just place it.
When I go to the left, I lead with the left and place both feet. This is because when you're standing left foot forward, it's easier to go to the left. This is called the orthodox stance. Standing right foot forward, southpaw, it's easier to go to the right. Whichever stance you're in, you want to learn to move in both directions. You should also practice both sides.
