Crossover Steps With Arm Swing (Patreon)
Content
Crossover steps, also known as grapevines. It's where you move laterally, cross-stepping over your lead leg in front of and behind it. As you do this, your hips will naturally rotate, and your arms will naturally swing. You'll remember having to naturally swing your arms to maintain your balance during free-standing leg swings. Once you build a sense for your arm swing, exaggerate the movement to cover your face like you're doing the dab. Again, make sure to keep your core engaged.
Learning to swing your arms as you rotate your hips will be critical in developing your kicks, directional changes, upper body movement, balance, and protecting your hips and back.
With this exercise, you'll develop foot agility along with hip rotation. Without your hips, you'll not only lose power and speed, but you'll hurt your back. You'll also be stiff, making yourself not only more prone to injury but making all your techniques telegraphed.
Once you're comfortable with this movement, speed up.
