Use a wall for support and balance. Turn your inside foot toward the wall, bend over, lift your kicking leg and flex your ankle so you're aiming with the flat of your foot. Make sure your foot is parallel to the ground. Turn your head towards your kicking foot. Chamber your leg, then extend. Remember to keep your foot flexed, meaning pull your foot toward your shin.

It should be the same mechanics as stomping the ground except higher. If you want to practice stomping the ground first with knee lifts, then do that. When you feel comfortable, try doing that same movement with your foot lifted higher off the ground. Chamber, extend, chamber, extend.

Imagine your leg is a sword. You are thrusting, not slicing. You're hitting with the bottom of your foot, not your shin. This is why your foot is flexed, not pointed. You want to be able to differentiate this from the beginning. It's the same as a push kick vs. a front kick.

Keep your abs and glutes tight, and try not to bend over too much, as that'll compromise your balance. The pulsing side kick is the precursor to this movement. Build up to this movement.

If you feel confident, try doing this movement without a wall.
