Most mechanics use a jack to lift a car. She just uses her hands. And when she smiles at me? I forget how to breathe.
“You got a problem with your car?”
I turned at the sound of her voice, and for a second, I forgot why I was even here.
She stood there, hands resting on her hips, a soft smile on her lips. The denim overalls hugged every inch of her impossibly muscular frame, her shoulders broad, arms thick with power. I’d never seen a mechanic like her before.
I cleared my throat, trying not to stare too hard. “Uh, yeah… I think something’s off with the suspension.”
She nodded, wiping her hands on a grease-streaked rag. “Alright, let’s take a look.”
She walked past me, her sheer size making me feel tiny by comparison. But what really made my heart pound wasn’t just her muscles—it was how effortlessly graceful she was. Strength and ease, wrapped in the kindest smile.
She circled the car, eyeing it for a moment before crouching down. “I’ll get under it in a sec, but first…”
Then, without hesitation, she bent at the knees, grabbed the back bumper with both hands, and lifted.
My jaw dropped.
The entire back end of the car—hundreds of pounds of metal—rose off the ground as if it weighed nothing. Her muscles tensed, veins teasing across her biceps, but there was no struggle, no hesitation. Just pure strength.
“There we go,” she said casually, holding it up like it was no big deal. She turned her head to glance at me, and her smile widened. “Something wrong? You look a little… stunned.”
I blinked, trying to form words. “You—uh—you just lifted my car.”
She chuckled, setting it back down gently, like she was lowering a bag of groceries instead of a whole vehicle. “Yeah, I do that sometimes.”
She wiped her hands again, her biceps flexing with every movement. “You’d be surprised how many problems I can fix just by lifting things.”
I swallowed hard. “I—yeah. That’s… impressive.”
She smirked. “Don’t worry, sweetheart. I know I’m a lot to take in.”
I exhaled shakily as she stepped closer, her presence overwhelming but somehow still warm, inviting.
“Tell you what,” she said, tapping a finger against my chest lightly—though even that had enough force behind it to make me take half a step back. “I’ll fix your car for free… if you let me take you for a ride afterward.”
I felt my heartbeat slam against my ribs.
There was no way I was saying no to that.
