The first thing you notice isn’t the hat.
It isn’t the way the warm afternoon sun catches in her golden curls, or how her blue jeans fit snug against legs that look strong enough to crush boulders. It isn’t even the way the leather vest barely holds back the sheer size of her chest.
No, the first thing you notice is the smirk.
She leans against the wooden bar, thick arms crossed, watching you with the easy confidence of someone who’s never had to ask twice for anything.
“You lost, stranger?” Her voice is warm, but teasing. She knows exactly why you’re staring.
You clear your throat, trying to find words that don’t make you sound like a fool. “I—uh, I don’t think so.”
She chuckles, shaking her head. “You think?” She tilts her head, giving you a slow once-over. “Darlin’, I could see it from a mile away—you ain’t from around here.”
Your pulse stumbles as she pushes off the counter, stepping toward you. Each stride is slow, deliberate. Her presence alone is overwhelming, her strength impossible to ignore.
“Where I come from,” she continues, her voice dripping with amusement, “the men work hard, the women work harder, and the strongest ones get whatever they want.”
She stops just inches away, so close you can feel the warmth radiating from her. She smells like leather and sun, like something untamed.
She leans in slightly, just enough to make your breath hitch. “So tell me, sugar… what’s a city boy like you doin’ out in my territory?”
You open your mouth, but nothing comes out.
She grins, her dimples showing, before reaching up and adjusting the brim of your hat like you’re some lost pup she just decided to keep.
“You know,” she muses, stepping past you with a slow, rolling stride, “you’re kinda cute when you’re speechless.”
She reaches the door, then glances back over her shoulder, eyes flashing with something playful… and dangerous.
“Try to keep up, cowboy.”
And just like that, she’s gone.
But you already know—you’d follow her anywhere.
