The reason Zeref wants to wipe out humanity is the curse of contradiction: in order to not kill everything around him he needs to stop caring about anything, but once he stops caring, stopping the curse, he has no problem killing hordes of innocent people, because he doen’t care about them, he’s indifferent. It’s the same as when he created his demons: he created them to kill himself, but once they failed he didn’t destroy them or seal them, he just unleashed them to the world, not caring how many people they would kill. It is truly the ultimate curse: if he’s good the curse will kill everything against his will, but if his evil he will willingly kill people, since he’s evil. So no matter what he chooses or what he does one way or another he kills. Truly the ultimate curse.

This is a story of a girl and a boy haha in more ways then one because some forget this is Lucy's story with Natsu as her protagonist.
