when he "dies" you see a ton of hands come towards him and then it cuts to a wide shot and an explosion that is all we are shown before. good call

To me and a lot of OP fans there is no outright bad canon arc. It stays consistent and you get to watch Oda himself grow as a storyteller. Its crazy to think that Oda started doing OP in 1997 and was only 22 i can already remember how immature and stupid I was at that age.

This arc is pretty good and got me hooked on the manga. The next major arc after this for me was slightly weaker, not by much though, still a very good arc.

I do agree it has lows but every arc for me has way more highs than lows and I think a lot of reactors who get warned oh Thriller Bark sucks tend to end up liking it a lot more. But I will say that TB is definitely one of the most decisive arcs and I can see it not being everyones cup of tea. Also it took me rewatchs/reactions to appreciate some of the older arcs like Syrup Village, Whiskey Peak and Little Garden. Like first time watching they were not my fav.
