I’m of the opinion that this is not just the greatest bottle episode in the history of television it may genuinely be the greatest episode of any television show. Rachel Talalaly’s directing is unmatched, Murray Golds music is at its absolute best, Moffat’s writing is at its absolute pinnacle but Capaldi?! That man put on an absolute master class and he was already my favorite Doctor at that point but this performance puts it completely in an above S-Tier and perhaps just shy of absolute perfection.

Doc didnt use the shovel because he didnt know what he had to do until he went into room 12.... it dawned on him when he enters it and thinks bird....then its an AHHHH moment... this episode is the best and Capaldi killed it!!!!!!!!!

When you hear the doctors first line about "I am the Doctor, I'm coming to find you and I will never ever stop" you think its just the Doc dropping good lines but only when you realize this is a time loop of sorts and you hear the line again and again, the importance of the line is so good.

When you suddenly realise what is happening! I remember watching it and it sent prickles up my back. Amazing episode

Having a pop at gardeners and mortality soul searching in the first ten minutes, you know you’re in for a banger! An all time classic episode. And thy moment when the Dr, and you the viewer realise it’s a loop, and cue the montage, is incredible TV. ‘It’s not the day someone dies that’s the problem, at least you have something to do, it’s all the days they remain dead’ 😭

started watching you guys around like a YEAR ago and it's crazy to think it's been that long, but I gotta say... I've been waiting for this one ever since then haha

This episode and the next series finale are considered the best episodes of the show’s history.

It's a fresh iteration of the doctor on each new cycle so he doesn't know what he has to do till he's in front of the wall. That's why he doesn't use the shovel. I think also the fact that he uses his fist is a much more powerful image and more in keeping with the themes of the story, at least I'd rather see that, than him whacking it with a great big shovel, lol

You 45 minutes in with the unstoppable "oh this is an all-time-good one huh?" smile lmao
