The wet willy episode. I am curious how this was "heavy handed" compared to Vincent and the Doctor though.

I don't think it was heavy handed at all, I think it addresses an issue it has before and it did it very well, (and as Michael says if this is heavy handed then you'd have to call the Vincent episode that too as they are both similar) when it came out at the time I pretty much only saw positive vibes for this, I think saying part of the episode wasted your time is very harsh. To me the issue is that the episode either needed to be longer or a two parter so it could have mixed more with the message, because it was one episode it whizzed through a story that had lots of potential which then kinda goes to waste so I understand that part of it because that's my gripe with this episode too, they ran through the 'Gods' and Aleppo stuff when it needed to be more detailed and mixed in with the theme. I really like this episode, just think making it a stand alone wasted a real opportunity. The Yaz storyline is incredibly touching and seeing Graham and Ryan starting to question their time was good too.

Hi, :) just my thoughts: I can't particularly speak for how the message was delivered because it will definitely resonate differently with everyone, and that was the main topic of your post-episode discussion. One thing I did always love about this episode though was the Yaz character development. Unfortunately, she has never been able to have that much prior to this point. And I felt like her personal storyline here was delivered with a touch more subtlety and tastefulness than others may have been. The line 'do it right this time' always made a big impression on me. It opens up an interesting pathway to me that Yaz is not only still haunted by her past (and, although it wasn't stated upfront, it seemed like she was dealing with some quite serious ideation), but insecure about how far she's really come from it. It's only been three years for her since that, she's still young, and at this point in life doesn't have much else going on other than life in the TARDIS. She wears this bright bubbly exterior, but has dealt with being in a pretty dark place. Going back there is still a possibility for her. There could be a 'this time'. Which is an interesting door to open for her in further seasons. (which I am really looking forward to seeing you react to for many reasons!)

This was definitely a weak episode. I don't really find it heavy handed, I have the opposite problem with it. I just think it's poorly undeveloped and lacks proper cohesion with the themes and all. The themes of mental health and Aleppo for example. It felt like more of an afterthought rather than properly being weaved through the narrative. They even attempted it further with Tibo opening up to Ryan which was a decent attempt but it would have been far more effective if we got to know Tibo a bit more beforehand. It's good to finally have more context with Yaz's depression which had a small hint in witchfinders but it feels almost too late to give her this after a whole season. I also feel like they could have pushed further with it. The nightmares and dreams that our companions had also didn't feel as effective as they could have been. It feels like they're not fully realised. The visual storytelling of the gods was kinda cool but I also feel like they were defeated rather too easily and didn't really get the opportunity to have a lengthy battle against The Doctor. The aftermath for this (some of the parts) also felt like a PSA rather than something that would feel more impactful. I also didn't like The Doctor's response towards Graham. It just felt like a lot of aspects here didn't mesh well, even when you could see what they were trying to do. This is where the cracks in Series 12 start to really show for me. Aside from Spyfall Part 1 and Fugitive of The Judoon, there's a lot of baggage and weakly developed threads within Orphan 55, Praxeus and this episode.
