Nooooooooo! Going to bed. Will get in the am. 😢

Richard C

Another album listening party? I am completely lost on the posting schedule 😆

Amber Reacts

I traveled this weekend so I wasn’t able to record this weekend ❤️

Richard C

OK, so I’m less confused now. I was used to music coming out on Saturdays. 😉 Had no idea you were travelling. Hope it was a good time.

Patt SanKings

Yess!!! IMO, the Best album...Thanks for this post❣️❣️

Rowan Figueroa

Hands down the most catchy nonsense ever written.

Rowan Figueroa

Shit, I'm starting to think I'm staying up now. 🤣 Curiosity killed the pussy cat.

Thomas McGlinchey

Cannot wait for a live chat listening session as the summer starts, hopefully this month (🤞🏻🤞🏻) Amber, I think a full album listen battle would be a great way to continue the MJ deep dive. The battle of the Best Album nominees from 1988 Grammys: Michael Jackson’s Bad vs. U2’s The Joshua Tree To make it a discussion of which album would truly be the Best Album of 1987/88 in today’s time… Side note: the other nominees from that class of ‘88 Best Album Grammys is Whitney Houston’s 2nd album “Whitney”, Prince’s Sign o’ the Times, Dolly Parton/Linda Ronstadt’s Trio… Rumor has it that the loss MJ took that night (in ‘88) is what shaped the next album Dangerous (‘91), because of the perfectionist that MJ was…

David K

The person who played the guitar solo on Beat It is the one and only Eddie Van Halen.

Thomas McGlinchey

Right there with ya Mas on my favorite MJ album, but my favorite non-classic hit is Speed Demon from Bad (that video is a classic MJ imagination) Or which version she will like of “I Just Can’t Stop Loving You” (English vs Spanish versions), lol

Elizabeth Franco

I’m wondering if she realizes that was Paul McCartney

Thomas McGlinchey

Nothing wrong with staying up when Amber drops the banger of all records… it will be forever the #1 album of all time (because of the music industry is now)

B. Alex

Favorite react. Amber you are appreciated 👏🏽

Thomas McGlinchey

Unfortunately, it was the last time they would collaborate as Paul was torn that Michael bought the Beatles catalog and would hold on to it until he passed… Can only imagine how many more collabs we could have had if Paul had put differences behind him for the music…

B. Alex

We ALL needed this 😂👏🏽

B. Alex

If Amber does Butterflies.... 😂💖

Anthony Caples

Great listen, haven’t listened to this album in decades. This is the 40th anniversary album because the last song “ Carousel” isn’t on the original album.

Anthony Caples

Thriller was definitely Michael’s serious push to become more pop, his previous album Off the Wall is some R&b and soulful from the last days of Disco.

Anthony Caples

Amber, you have to YouTube the demo version of PYT! It’s so different from the album version! I think you would like it.

John H.

Hey Amber! On “Beat It,” the guitar solo 🎸 is Eddie Van Halen. The guitarist throughout the song is Steve Lukather from Toto. In fact, several of the guys from Toto played on this album (Jeff Porcaro - 🥁 drums, David Paich - 🎹 piano/keyboards, Steve Porcaro - 🪗 keyboards). Steve Porcaro also ✍🏼 wrote “Human Nature.” The “Paul” you heard on “The Girl is Mine” was Paul McCartney. 🎤

Thomas McGlinchey

Amber, If you want to watch the concert that the final scene of the movie is from, I found that the MJ YT channel posted it in 2019, in full. 2:16 of all of Michael in his element, on stage and feeling the rhythm. Definitely needs to be an After Hours watch…

SGT Rock's Headbangers Ball

You had asked, "Who is the guitar player on Beat It." Those would be the great Steve Lukather from Toto who played the main riff and rhythm, and the late and legendary King Edward came in to play the solo. If you get a chance, Rockstar, check out Steve Lukather's interview with Rick Beato regarding playing on the Thriller record. Source: Rick Beato Interview with Steve Lukather Steve Lukather Talks About Recording "Beat It" Guitar Riff https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=14YP9481DMI On the Victory Tour, Tito held it down on guitar, but the real heavy work was carried by the top-tier session players David Williams and Gregg Wright. On MJ's Bad tour he had brought on axe queen, Jennifer Batten (she is crazy good)! This is what I get for reading all of the guitar rags from back during the GenX era, random knowledge that comes back like a photograph. I sent you through IG a link to where King Edward made a guest appearance at Michael's Dallas show. This whole album brings me back to the days of roller rinks and Shakey's Pizza. So glad I knew how to skate backward. Made me pretty popular for jams like Billy Jean, The Girl is Mine, Human Nature, and The Lady in My Life. Whenever a Michael Jackson song came over the sound system, especially PYT, uffda, one almost ended up getting ran over getting on that roller floor. When I hear Thriller, I can close my eyes and just like photographic memory, I'm back in the 80s. Thanks for bringing me back to so many fond memories, Rockstar. Great album choice. -SGT Rock

BobbyDigital

Yep, it was Pink Floyd "Dark Side of the Moon" that was the best selling album of all time, until Thriller came out, and it passed it up.

BobbyDigital

Human Nature is one of my favorite songs ever. I learned to play it on the piano a few years ago.

Meryl Lim

Love the head scarf, Amber. You look like a cool hippie chick! This album has so many massive hits that played non-stop in the clubs in the early 80s. Great reaction!

CitadelBrulee

It's actually Eddie Van Halen playing on "Beat It"!

I am Jussina

I good album to listen to is The Jackson’s Victory which was the final concert featuring all six of the Jackson on stage together as an official group . 1984

sb

The Girl Is Mine w/ Paul McCartney was the 1st single released off the album.

I am Jussina

Eddie Van Halen did the awesome guitar solo for Beat it! Only a music legend could convince another music legend to collaborate on a song.

sb

Everyone has seen the Thriller video but (video aside), to realize how slick the song's concept is "Hey girl, it's really scary out there..you might wanna come cuddle up under me baby"...Ain't no monsters really out there, you wanted her to get close and personal. 😊

Jeff Darensbourg

Great Reaction Amber! Fun Facts: several of the band members of Toto were also session musicians, so they played the instruments on several of these album tracks. Eddie Van Halen provided the guitar solo on "Beat It." Rod Temperton (from the group Heatwave...remember "Boogie Nights" and "The Groove Line?") wrote "Thriller"; James Ingram and Quincy Jones wrote your favorite jam "P.Y.T" (and Mike's sisters Janet and Latoya provided the backing vocals.) Last but not least, the "Paul" singing with Michael on "The Girl is Mine" is of course Paul McCartney. They were friends up until Mike decided to buy up The Beatles song catalog in 1985...Paul wasn't too happy about that, and so their friendship dissolved. Anyway... Thriller was selling at a rate of almost 1 million copies a week throughout 1983 but started to slow down a bit, so they released the Thriller music video in December 1983, one year after Thriller album was released. After that, it went back up to selling 1 million copies a week. (The Police's 1983 final album "Synchronicity" started to catch up...that's another full album listen for your list.)

Jeff Darensbourg

Oh yeah...you DEFINITELY need to react to "Off the Wall", "Bad," and I would also recommend "Dangerous." too! Thriller was awesome for sure, however there is also some debate out there about whether or not its actually his BEST album, compared to Off the Wall and/or Bad (I actually think both of those are better, but its certainly subjective.) Also, The Jacksons "Triumph" album from 1980 is excellent, it was released between Off The Wall and Thriller and is considered by many to be their best album from a production standpoint. There are many awesome gems from MJ on that album!

Uncle Darnell

I’m gonna say it one more time I’m not gonna stop , that’s what’s he’s saying at the end of want to be starting something 😂

Clint Heald

Can't believe nobody gave any props to the great Quincy Jones who produced the album and arranged a lot of the instrumentals.

MadIcelander

Amber - Gotta say tho, little disappointed you didn't recognize Paul's voice. The girl is mine....Yeah that was a duet with MJ & McCartney lol.

Elizabeth Franco

I thought everyone knew that was Eddie Van Halen. Need to check out Eat It

Elizabeth Franco

I loved John Mayer’s performance of Human Nature during the memorial concert.

Elizabeth Franco

That makes this 58 year old feel like a PYT🥰

Debbie Green

Hell yeah! You got me reliving my Senior year in high school! ❤️

Tiffany B

Are you planning to go back and watch more of the Dexter universe?

Jaxon Fierce

Eddie in an interview said Quincy called him up one day AND asked if he would play on Michael Jacksons album. Eddie said he had no clue who Micael was at the time but since Van halen was on a hiatus from touring, And it was Quincy Jones asking He was like yeah sure why not, nothing else tro do..lol classic

david walker

Off the wall album is great as well.

Amber Reacts

When he said Paul I thought it could be him but the voice sounded…. Too deep 🙈

Amber Reacts

Oh I love it even more now that I know Paul was in it

Amber Reacts

I’m disappointed in myself too. When he said Paul, I thought it could have been him. But the speaking voice was different than I expected so I thought it couldn’t be McCartney

Rowan Figueroa

I do think Paul's side of the disagreement holds some weight.

Rowan Figueroa

Ok, that took me some time to listen to. One thing that got to me was I realized on Baby Be Mine that hadn't sat down and listened to the whole album since the Thriller 25 release cause you know I HAD to own it! I love the remixes on it, definitely recommend listening to those. Paul McCartney on The Girl Is Mine. God I love that song, to this day, so much. I will say that I threw my back out while enjoying this.... by the time Thriller was done. I was chair dancing my heart out... and my oxygen. Thank you Amber. You made me smile. That note Michael hit? We all heard it. It's what made him so stupidly amazing.

Brent Stroot

The guitarists on the solo in Beat it, was Eddie Van Halen. And the Paul in that girl was mine was Paul McCartney

MadIcelander

As a fellow Beatles head, you are more than forgiven lol. Love the channel. You’re an incredible reactor. Keep doing what you do. Hoping for a Billy Joel album reaction.

MadIcelander

Rowan - agreed. Both of them are legends but Paul wasn’t wrong imo. Thankfully we still have Paul. And he’s still making music & touring 😂🤷🏻‍♂️ #livinglegend

Perry Campbell

What’s up I couldn’t wait so I join Patron lol ❤️

John Christopher xcronex

human nature and the lady in my life still hit ... with all the noise about Micheal these songs remind me of what a truly great artist he is.

Michael Griffin

Apparently the chant toward the end of Wanna Be Starting Something has no direct English translation, *and* is also a phonetic mishearing. Most people hear/sing “mama say mama-sa mamakusa” but the original phrase is "Ma ma-sé, ma ma-sa, ma ma-kos-sa" and is from a 1972 song called Soul Makossa (translation: "I will dance") by Manu Dibango. Video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o0CeFX6E2yI Manu Dibango is pretty interesting in his own right. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Manu_Dibango I love it when listening to music lets me learn stuff.

Michael Griffin

Thriller without the video?!? I guess that's the price to pay for a full album reaction. I learned the "zombie flash mob" dance that starts at 8:32 in the video (but that instrumental isn't on the album after Vincent Price laughs) in a jazz dance class in 1982. BTW, girl, do what you want with vampires, but if your date is a zombie (or a werewolf), you RUN.

Sweetish_Jeff_26

They also collaborated on two other songs, “Say Say Say” and “The Man” which both appeared on Paul’s “Pipes Of Peace” album.

Sweetish_Jeff_26

I heard that “Wanna Be Starting Something” was actually written and a demo recorded during “Off The Wall”.

Sweetish_Jeff_26

I had the cassette tape of this album. Played it so much on my boombox it got wore out. I learned how to play pool in the summer of ‘84 with this song as the soundtrack. Great memories. So happy you dug it, Amber.

Sonny

I highly recommend the Wembley performance

Marianne

If you're looking for a full album with lots of ear candy, Graceland Paul Simon!🙏🏼

"The Funk of 40,000 Years" is the name of my fantasy football team!
