Star Wars The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels provide Bo Katans story. Many people skip out on them becuase they are animated but they really fill out the star wars world and characters much better. They do alot to add to the the lore.

Bo comes from Royalty. Many believe she comes from the bloodline of Mandalor the great . That why she can weld the dark saber with ease. Think of her as if she was the great granddaughter of King Arther and the dark saber is excalibur or in Norse mythology Thor’s hammer only ones who are worthy can weld it. In Mandalorian folk lore the one who can weld it It’s worthy to rule Mandalor .

She also had the Saber previously. She had to relinquish it to Moff Gideon in the Great Purge (The Night of Thousand Tears)

bo-katan's history can be seen in full in the clone wars and rebels for a quicker walkthrough, i believe fans have compiled a list of episodes that detail only the mandalore/bo-katan arcs so you don't need to worry about slogging through every season of those two shows she really has one of the most personal character arcs in star wars next to anakin, ahsoka and obi-wan

To understand Bo-Katan Kryze's transformation from a radical Death Watch lieutenant to a unifying Mandalore leader, watch her essential arc. Start with The Clone Wars Season 4, Episode 14, then Season 5, Episodes 14–16, and Season 7, Episodes 9–11. Conclude with Star Wars Rebels Season 4, Episodes 1–2.

He now owns R5-D4. From the original movie Episode 4: A New Hope. The droid Uncle Ben first bought from the Jawas, but it had a bad motivator and they then bought R2-D2 instead. You can still see the burnt spot on his head where he popped his top. Bo-Katan knew Ahsoka, Obi-Wan and Anakin. I posted a list of the essential Bo-Katan episodes in a reply.

It would be great to watch Clone Wars and Rebels to get the full history of Bo-Katan and the Mandalorians. It is a time commitment but well worth it. However, if you don't have plans to watch it, or the episodes listed above, then here is a pretty concise 8 and half minute video recapping the history of Bo Katan, all the way up to the parts of The Mandalorian you have already watched. https://youtu.be/DZL5-YEKmjc?is=kBsxd-hFJi5EQqb9
