Hope you're all doing OK in this heat wave you're having. Damn.... over 100 for like 10 days in a row. Be careful. TY for the Beatles 😁.... btw, I saw this live on TV. I was 8 years old.

David K

I wanted to comment this since it’s a Beatles reaction. You should check out the movie Yesterday it’s about The Beatles and their music it’s really good.

Darin metzger

I had to re up my membership just for this😂🤷‍♂️🙏🙏

Since I was only 3 years old in 1964, I did not see this, but it does make me think of a great Tom Hanks movie "The Wonders". Instantly makes me think of The Wonders playing the Hollywood Showcase. An absolute must reaction movie for your channels.

Sweetish_Jeff_26

I concur. Amber is going to love “That Thing You Do!”.

Sweetish_Jeff_26

Amber, the Beatles album “Rubber Soul” is getting a new stereo mix and being rereleased in October. Would love to see you do an album reaction to this. You will love it!

Sweetish_Jeff_26

If you really want to hear The Beatles as a live band, I highly recommend the “Live At The BBC” albums. Lots of great songs including some they never did on record. Another one is “Live At The Hollywood Bowl”. Last but not least, if you really want to dive deep down the rabbit hole, check out the “Live At The Star Club” performance from New Year’s Eve 1962. It’s on YouTube and it’s punk rock ten years before it became cool. Anyone who says The Beatles can’t play rock music should listen to that.

@Sweetish_Jeff_26 thanks for the correction on the movie title. The Wonders was the name of the band in the movie "That Thing You Do"

Oh, this was a treat! I was sitting enraptured in front of the TV watching this live as an 8-year-old, and I felt pretty much the same now, It still fills me with joy! Such a delight to watch it with you, Amber! Your comments about Ed Sullivan cracked me up. Our family and everyone I knew watched the Ed Sullivan show every Sunday night. Disney had a show opposite it that came on at 7:30, but most kids I knew whose families watched that switched over to Ed Sullivan at 8. I have no idea how that remarkably uncharismatuc man became what he did, but he presented non-stop entertainment from every kind of artist imaginable, and he was really groundbreaking with bringing on music acts for our generation. But now I will always think of him as vampire-like and giggle.

Mason “The Southern Gentleman”

I got to know a lot of the Beatles catalog because it’s one of my stepmoms fav bands… Love this… I def would love to stay 60s and maybe do a movie reaction to “The Temptations”….. or even move into the 70s with Teddy Pendergrass cover of “Lady” live…. Maybe some Tom Petty… 🔥🔥🔥🔥 On the country tip some Alan Jackson “Song For The Life”... My fav country singer... I love me some old country.. Since I’m on a roll 🤣🤣 Stan Walker “Ultralight Beam” this is live and u will love his voice…. Live performance... Song about faith and love...

Dale Sands

13 albums in 7+ yrs. Don't think any other band achieved that..... (could be wrong).

Hi Amber, I suggest once again that you react to the Anthology documentary series so you can learn the history of The Beatles in detail; that way, when you react to specific moments like this one later on, you’ll understand the context

Thomas McGlinchey

Mas, Cannot wait to see her react to U2, Thin Lizzy, Hozier, Glen Hansard… the Irish invasion (lol). Or Johnny Cash (to match your old school country). I would think doing a Jamaican Invasion: Bob & Damian Marley, back to Shaggy, Sean Paul, etc. would be a blast.

Thomas McGlinchey

Amber, This was a great surprise to close the work week out on. I hope you do more live reactions (there are some insane ones out there). One suggestion is “I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For” from U2 off of Rattle & Hum, as they went to a Harlem church and did a rendition with a Harlem Gospel Choir.

My first concert, The Beatles at the Hollywood Bowl. 1964. I was 9 and my mom was one of the five thousand screaming girls.

Sweetish_Jeff_26

I think the early Beatles albums and songs get overlooked. Some people usually critics say they’re too “poppy”. I disagree. Even on a song like “This Boy”. It definitely has a doo-wop feel to it, but it has a beautiful chord change on the bridge that most doo-wop songs don’t have. Amber, I look forward to you getting to do album reactions to their early albums like “Please Please Me” which has one of my favorite Beatles songs: “Ask Me Why”.

If you liked John's more intense vocals in This Boy you should check out his solo album "Plastic Ono Band"! It's really raw and emotional throughout! Also other good live Beatles performances to check out would be Shea Stadium, Budokan, and the Rooftop concert ❤️

Those girls in the audience are probably grandmothers or great grandmothers now

This was great! I've seen clips of the Beatles on Ed Sullivan before, but I've never seen their entire set, so really cool!

This happened just a few months after JFK was assassinated. America needed something to cheer us up and these four guys from Liverpool with moptop haircuts showed up. But they weren’t just a boy band. They changed the culture. After they appeared on “Ed Sullivan”, many kids and teenagers started a band or joined a band. Guys who used to have crewcuts now grew out their hair. And, other British bands came along after them. Yes, they were popular and millions of teenage girls screamed. But the teenage boys wanted to be like them. The Beatles became part of the pop culture lexicon. Anytime you see or hear about teenagers going crazy, people say it’s like Beatlemania. Yet if you deep dive into their music, you’ll see why they were so great. They were unique and different. They started off “She Loves You” with the chorus. How many bands back then did that? They wrote their own songs during an era when most artists had professional songwriters. They played chords that no other band did. The opening chord to “A Hard Day’s Night” or even George’s jazzy intro to “All I’ve Got To Do”. As John once said, “we were influenced as much as we influenced”. They loved Elvis, Little Richard, Buddy Holly, the Everly Brothers, Motown, etc. They were a breath of fresh air in America then and even now.

Sweetish_Jeff_26

Did you hear that the guy who invented the heat index died a couple of years ago? He was 91, but it felt like 105. 😉

Sweetish_Jeff_26

The crazy thing is John was very self-conscious about his singing voice. I always loved his vocals especially from the early days. And, I totally agree about The Plastic Ono Band album.

Sweetish_Jeff_26

Sullivan was very smart. He knew talent and could see the charisma of The Beatles. Brian Epstein deserves a lot of credit, too. He handled their trip to America brilliantly.

Sweetish_Jeff_26

After Hours with Amber will never suck IMHO. If it’s 3am and she drops a video, I’m watching it. ☺️

Sweetish_Jeff_26

I wish that those who were there would identify themselves. Would love to see them now.

Sweetish_Jeff_26

The Hollywood Bowl album is the closest thing to being at a Beatles concert I imagine.

Jayce

Oh this is their 2nd appearance on Ed Sullivan. Their 1st Appearance on American Television was a week earlier on The Ed Sullivan Show. You might check out that Show too!

My mom told me that she was only one out of all her friends , probably school for that matter that was not allowed to watch Ed Sullivan because my grandpa said no he wasn't going to turn that on and watch it. She was so upset by the whole situation that that Christmas my grandpa make sure she got a television for her room. And we have a picture of her in her room at 16 years old and what does she have on her television in the background? The Beatles cartoon. She did get to see A Hard Day's night at the theater with one of her best friends named Donnna that remains one of her friends through the end of their lives, and when they saw the movie they said it was like going to a concert because the girls watching the movie were screaming. And of course my mother was also one of those screaming girls. Lol
