Good evening Amber. Don't 🎯💀the messenger here, that movie is from 1993 not 1998.

MadIcelander

Nice choice Amber! The movie came out in 1993, not 1998 like your post says but no biggie 😁

Thomas McGlinchey

Haven’t seen this movie in a hot minute, god it’s crazy how many movies Billy Zane has been in (Back to the Future as a Biff sidekick, Poetic Justice and Titanic, among others)…

Patt SanKings

Yes‼️ Though at first their characters clash, Janet & Tupac compliment each other expressively. This is a great choice, Thank you❣️

Thomas McGlinchey

Amber, If you are looking for another poetry movie, there’s a Hilary Swank movie called “Freedom Writers” that I recommend reacting to, based on a true story about a teacher who helped HS find their voice through poetry…

Patt SanKings

"How you doing Ms Jackson"...That is Tone Loc, 80's-90's rapper.

Jayme LaFontaine

We have a couple historic drive-in theaters! It's a fun experience

MovieMan_J

If you’re going to watch Poetic Justice then you have to watch Higher Learning.

Marcus Smith

A cool little tidbit in the beginning hair salon scene with Janet and her boss is that the song playing in the background is "Call Me A Mack" by Usher when he was about 14 or 15-years-old. A lot of people our age don't know he recorded music in 1993.

Jeff Darensbourg

Hey Amber! Great Choice! The same director of this movie (John Singleton) also directed Boyz N the Hood and Baby Boy. Two other films of his that I suggest are Higher Learning and Rosewood. Also Menace 2 Society!

Marcus Smith

The poetry Janet is reciting in the movie is by legendary Maya Angelou, who's also in the movie at the cookout scene.

Marcus Smith

That song you liked when they were taking off in the mail truck is called "Get It Up" by TLC.

Jayme LaFontaine

40 = 40oz of malt liquor or beer. Old E is Old English, there's St Ides, Mickey's, Big Bear... so many.

Thomas McGlinchey

Great to hear different iterations of Together Again from Janet throughout the movie (piano, demo, etc.)

Thomas McGlinchey

Amber, Another show/movie combo that you should check out regarding spoken word is the movie Blindspotting and the follow up 2 season show of the same name…

Clint Heald

One movie I forgot to mention during the live stream " The United States vs. Billie Holiday" True story, great music, outstanding performances.

Marty B

I LOVE this movie. I completely forgot Tone Loc was in it.

Marcus Smith

The 40 ounce malt liquor Regina was talking about is a brand called "Olde English 800" aka "Olde E."

Jeff Darensbourg

Also….Janet’s look in this movie popularized ‘Box Braids’ in the 90’s. My wife wears them often…they’re beautiful

Marc Lamoureux

Good movie...haven't seen it many years. I think for me the absolute funniest scene was the 'poonany scene' from the beginning 🤣 The guy with the deep voice...J Bone...Lucky's fellow baby daddy, was played by rapper Tone Lōc. You should check out his song 'Funky Cold Medina'

Dennis Fawcett

Janet wasn’t happy about being paired with him

Reggie Riobe

This movie always hits. This was a great reaction amber.. but a quick heads up.. that’s Regina King lol Juice 1992. Above the rim 1994 Are two other great movies that star Tupac Shakur

Krzi Nsane

Off topic but are you going to repost your live stream from the other day? I missed about 90% of it

K Dub

Looking forward to getting home to check this out. Born and raised in the city of Oakland mentioned in the movie and the adopted home of 2Pac. R.I.P.🙏 THANK YOU!!!🫵🥰👌👏Also for an unrelated but relevant movie reference to poetry and spoken Word is the strong love themed movie "Love Jones" (1997) With Nia Long and Larenz Tate in black romantic leads a rarity in Hollywood.

I looked for this comment. Maya Angelou saying "What do you know about lovvvve"

sb

Tupac was a trained actor as he attended the Baltimore School for the Arts from 1986-1988 alongside Jada Pinkett. They were 15 and 16 years old.

Mason “The Southern Gentleman”

If u check out a tupac song then y may need a cleanse after “Hit em Up”…. I say Listen to “Unconditional Love” It’s so many great songs by PAC…

Mason “The Southern Gentleman”

That family reunion scene brought back so many memories…. That’s one thing I loved as a kid… getting to be with all my family just enjoying life not a care in the world…

Mason “The Southern Gentleman”

Yea… the hood is terrible… I had to deal with it myself… Although I’m from the country I lived in the hood… I myself am suprised I’m here.. There were shootings by my house where times bullets went thru my room and luckily I wasn’t there… Seen people get murdered in the streets… I def survived and made it out… but def the memories stick…

Kriss Kool

Regina King, not Hall

Patt SanKings

Yes Sir, with that Louisiana hot sauce on 🍿‼️

Mason “The Southern Gentleman”

They both had issues with each other…. Tupac hated how they treated her above him… he cited she was like royal vip treatment to them while he was treated like a regular from food down to the transportation she had… greatest thing about acting is u damn sure couldn’t tell

Rowan Figueroa

She also insisted he have an HIV test in order to do kissing scenes with him... showing her ignorance.

SK Ellis

That's been debunked. Singleton himself put that rumor out there.

SK Ellis

The way I ran here with my food and drink in hand! Love this movie so much. Q-Tip from A Tribe Called Quest played Janet's boyfriend in the beginning at the drive-in. At the time of filming Janet was married to her second husband Rene (the Mexican mailman) but after separating in the late 90s she began dating Q-Tip for a time.

J.Fro90

Real talk, theres no way you remember but years ago....in previous channel life (when I was still new to you), there was a discussion on who you look like, Sade was mentioned, but I said then & I say it today, AMBER WITH BOX BRAIDS GIVES ME JANET IN POETIC JUSTICE!!! I said it & i mean it, you could rock every style (the hat you could just flip to the back, thats where it looked best even on Janet). The braid style is jumbo box braids (nick named in the hood "dookie braids"🙄, aint nothin dookie about them) according to Janet & Regina them braids were way heavy, i think the knotless box braids are meant to be a lighter option, but they dont look as good to me. I love that you liked the movie, its a slow burn, but i love the analogy the further they got into the trip & out of their own worlds & into nature & openness & emptiness, their facades started to all fade. For Chicago & Iesha, their funny quirks revealed deep seated toxicity & drama. Justice & Lucky we're both so uptight & guarded in their every day lives, and their softness both came in. I've seen this movie hundreds of times & its only recently i caught that aspect. Its a very multifaceted movie too. Their character who got the devastating phone call, the call was AIDS related, John wanted that to be up for interpretation, but he made clear, thats what the news was about. Im a massive Janet fan & this is by Farr my favorite role shes ever done, the whole cast did the damn thing in this. I wish Tupac got to do more, i wish Janet choose more leading roles, and im proud Regina King has the career she has.

J.Fro90

Thank you for beating me to that, across the board & straight up, that was a lie that John started & Tupac had mentioned in the last time he referenced her that he apologized or at least tried to.

CHRISXGAMESALOT

Usher's first solo hit is in this movie called Call Me The Mack

CHRISXGAMESALOT

Janet's character chews gum to cope with her trauma.

CHRISXGAMESALOT

You definitely should check out this soundtrack it's dope!

Reggie Riobe

This was your 3rd movie you watched directed by John Singleton (rip🙏🏾).. Boyz n the hood. Baby boy and now Poetic Justice… Higher Learning 1995 is another movie that he directed it’s pretty dope, hope you check it out

Jewel

Tupac is a hard watch, because he was everything. They used to say he was our James Dean. He was so much more than that. If you ever get the opportunity to, you should watch “Tupac Resurrection” It’s a brilliant documentary narrated entirely by Tupac. From the beginning to his death. It’s amazing.

B. Alex

The yang to this ying. 👏🏽 Rest In Power, Mr. Singleton. He wasn't making a singular movie with this, or Boyz, or Higher Learning. It was a quilt of Black culture at this moment in time. We were (& maybe always have been) our own heroes & villains. No need for outsiders - we know our own morality tales. Thank you, Ms. Amber for the react! 👏🏽 I'll leave it here: https://youtu.be/7HEFm8Sp9iU?is=uXAAfB9zN7PFD3me

B. Alex

Never even picked up on this (I was fixated on "Again" , like everyone else). 👏🏽

Mysterious Narrator

Music request: Tupacs friend with the voice is music artist named Tine Loc check out his big song from the 90s "Funky cold medina"

Jason Kennebrew

The song you were liking was called “Get It Up” by TLC.

Jay B.

Black folks don’t mind other black folk stopping by a family reunion so long as they’re respectful we all family.

Marco

Blindspotting is a great movie!! Highly recommend as well

Eric Johnson

I think the news the light skin male hairdresser got is supposed to be a positive HIV test. And “base” refers to “free base” a processing of cocaine similar to crack

Eric Johnson

Amber: “I don’t want to be inside of a man’s thoughts” too late Amber! Wayyyy too late! Lol
