You can now forge your own eggs (Patreon)
Content
For years we've been designing these eggs one at a time and you've been printing them. A lot of you have messaged me some version of the same thing - "could you do one with my club's logo" or "my daughter wants a unicorn one" - and we could never keep up.
So I built the thing I always wanted to exist.
The Egg Forge is live at dreamlab3d.com.au You describe the egg you want - a theme, a creature, your logo, anything - and the forge designs it, embosses it onto our screw-top egg model, and hands you the files. You pick from four concepts before anything gets made, so you always choose what gets forged.
What you get is exactly what you're used to from our eggs - one print-ready STL with both halves, plus a colour-painted 3MF for multi-filament printers, tested to print support-free. Every design is one of a kind - forged once, for you, and it never becomes a public file for download.
A few things I'm genuinely proud of:
Lighter, faster shells. I've re-engineered the egg to a 0.8 mm wall - down from the old chunky shell - and it's the biggest upgrade I've made to this model. Same outside, same threads at full strength (it passed my twist test before I changed anything), but prints in roughly half the time and uses about 60% less filament. A blank that used to take four hours now takes about two and a half. Your spool goes a lot further.
Two sizes. Large is the classic 126 mm egg. Medium is 95 mm - prints faster with bolder detail.
No supports, ever. Every design on the bottom half is automatically tapered - the relief ramps out of the surface instead of jutting over it, the same trick I've always done by hand on my own eggs, now baked into the forge. Print it exactly as it loads: no supports, no cleanup, no scarring.
Colour mode. Pick up to 4 colours or from a palette and the forge still carves the design at full depth.
Four styles - Papercut, Shaded Relief and Cameo.
Seller Licence: print and sell as many as you like at markets or in your store - just never share the files.
One honest note: this is brand-new software, and while every egg runs through a battery of automated checks before it reaches you, there will be the odd design that comes out with a genuine defect I haven't met yet. If that happens to you, message me - I review every report personally, and clear defects get your credit refunded, no fuss. You'll also be helping me hunt down the last rough edges, which is exactly what I'd expect from this crew.
Launch pricing is on right now - single egg $19 instead of $29 - and it ends 22 August, so if you want to try it, this week is the time. Memberships available.
I'd genuinely love to see what you forge. Every egg created in the forge lands on our Inspiration page at dreamlab3d.com.au/inspiration (unless you set it private), so you can browse what everyone else has dreamed up and get ideas for your own - and post your prints in the comments or tag me, the weirder the theme, the better. The best thing about this whole project is that we get to see the creativity of our members.
This is just the start - I'm actively working on new features including articulated generations, and there's a referral program in the works so you'll earn something back for spreading the word. More updates soon.
Thanks for your continued support.
