Oh thank god they're asking questions about the whole situation! I'm going to be honest, I was in disbelief that 3/4 of the main group had blindly trusted a complete stranger from the enemies side (which they know because they saw her at the gathering) to join their mission without any questioning that anything could go astray, regardless of how weak and depressed she looked, and the one person who DID offer some opposition was basically bullied into submission. To me it felt like the whole scenario was being written less in a way that would flow naturally in the story, but more in a "the audience wants Usma to join the group so I'll just take a narrative shortcut and make 3/4 trust her unconditionally right out of the gate!". Obviously no-one will agree with me, I'm expecting this comment to clash with all the other ones, but I just wanted to quickly offer my thoughts.

They were always going to be asking questions, but there's a time and place. There's no blind trust in this group from anyone towards anyone, but some of them can put it in the backburner and dig it out at better time, unlike Nero, who goes for it outright. Character relationships AND conflicts are my number one interests in this comic so I'm not interested in taking cheap shortcuts like that.

I like the detail that everyone's birds snuggle Hoot expect Nero's but it's still staying close and looks concerned for their new snowflake friend.

Yeah I never read them as immediately trusting her- it's obvious they wouldn't, we know Runi and Kasko are just softer than Nero and saw at that moment she wasn't a threat. I don't think Ratt would just slap something quickly to get the ball rolling, their writing before hasnt shown that

I love how it’s Runi’s silver shrike that is the closest, telling us that the scene with it and Hoot meeting their claws was not a chance meeting. Also the little bullfinch, so round and cute
