Interesting. So they're not like other birds, i.e. poultry, where beak grows continuously and that's why they're filing it away all the time.

There's a difference between the keratin being damaged and the actual bone structure being destroyed. A chicken's beak wouldn't grow back if the bone/flesh beneath it getting damaged. All birds are constantly growing their beaks and need to use their beaks to file it.
