Bye smooth deer. Some northerners died too. : (

I don't know if this needs to be said as I'm not that active to begin with, but I'm having a bit of a social break from discord and several other platforms! I've been pretty exhausted with everything comic/internet related, and I'm spending my summer vacation now that my partner is too. I'll still upload stuff! I'm just not very interactive.

Haunting.... Dare I say CHILLING! ooooh (get it because they got cold and died)

JD

Wow what an harsh weather! Enough to kill them all! Well… except for two… and we know who they are!

Katie

I don't feel ready for the next page.

x_ember_o

I can feel the silence on this page...

I’m wondering if maybe Oudia didn’t fully die, but maybe is on the cusp of it, slowly dying from exposure and that’s why Antaras stole the stars, and Loss in particular. Eve might be the reason the fawn will be born alive, but I’m wondering if Antaras is delaying Oudia’s final moments….literally keeping her frozen in time

karlobears

What cruel twist of fate it was to have a mocked God-Caller and the one who escaped death be the only survivors. No wonder Usma bears just a heavy guilt on her shoulders over this.

TornTethers

It does kind of seem that way, too, in the page where Antaras asks Eve to back off? Her expression blank, still caught fading from the cold, and frozen in time as her body was during this event.

Tholfbutt

ALL of them died… so… Antaras wants to keep what’s left of Ouida. Because Usma isn’t enough to him. Or so I’m gonna hypothesize

Tholfbutt

I bet Eve made Antaras make a choice- his fawn or his mate; both could not be brought back to life. Which would explain the glare Antaras gave Eve at the Gathering when she nonchalantly walked up to bring the birds back, possibly.

I'd like to point out and quote Ratt's comment some time ago in public: "Note: I'm not going to approve more comments about the adoption discussion. What I will say is that the bilogical child vs adopted child "worth" was never a theme in this story. I say this because the claims make me a little uncomfortable. Antaras is an antagonist with many sins but loving Usma less than his biological child isn't one of those. You'll just have to read further to grasp all of him. There's a lot."

Robo87

I don’t think that Usma isn’t “enough” for him. I think that while we haven’t seen much of their good father/daughter relationship, it’s been implied in the past, and showed in the latest pages, that Antaras very much loves her and fully sees her as his daughter I think he just loves Oudia so much and the thought of losing both her and their fawn in one blow was too heartbreaking and traumatic for him to accept I think it’s 1) he doesn’t want to let Oudia go, 2) wants to save their fawn to have a small piece of Oudia left, 3.) is probably reacting out of misplaced guilt for not giving her a child sooner and probably blames himself for not being able to prevent this tragedy I personally don’t think it has anything with Usma not being enough or not being his biological child. I just think it’s mostly about not being able to lose Oudia

Tholfbutt

I never saw that, thank you for pointing it out.

Tholfbutt

Actually yes. Excellent points.

Kwelve

Take your time, and enjoy your vacations! you don't owe us nothing respect being social and friendly!

That middle panel keeps striking me as haunting. We’ve seen that northern in the background since they started the march and I’ve always thought she was lovely and her fur pattern was so pretty It looks like she died without even realizing it. Her fur and ears are still frozen and head bent as she tried to endure the worst of the storm.

Rolls

Is Eve a grasslander to?

Emma the Bombastic CowboyClown

Yes! She was stated to be a grasslander in earlier pages, I can dig around and find the specific page if you'd like

Rolls

No that's alright!!! Thanks though

TornTethers

I just realized...this mass grave is a good way to attract Loss's attention, isn't it? We've seen the foreshadowing before, with Kasko's family. I'm going to guess that's part of how Antaras ends up trapping Loss in the ring. What I'm most curious is what he offered Eve in return...

I wonder if the deer with the spikey hood started to experience some deer version of "paradoxical undressing" She has her head up, she might have been trying to get up to move around to try and get warm Or maybe she was feeling too warm from the hypothermia and lifted her head in some attempt to cool off or feel cooler and just died like that Could be super wrong but like it got me thinking/wondering
