The older stag in panel 5 is of the same species as the March leaders! But completely unrelated.

Bad feeling bad feeling bad very bad bad feeling I don’t think he’s blessing them at all

karlobears

The tension is so thick, is it next week yet?

Katie

Yeahhh I'm not so sure he's blessing them. Antaras to the march leader: "Oh don't worry, you'll get the biggest mark of everyone."

GammelGaedda

Uh-oh, very foreboding. made me think of Helevise's words on page 194; "The bastard might be an awful god caller, but it's driven him to do some studying... some old, ruthless things". Can't help but feel a bit sorry for Ame / the march leader.

Givemeyourmilk

I don't think this is a blessing, I think we've just stepped into the fun and exciting world of Blood Magic! Let the ritual sacrifice begin!!!! Lets turn Oudia into a deer-soul turducken!!!!

Rutaceae

Totally a blessing.

mmfris

Oh yeah time for an old and ruthless thing

AdventureLemon

To add to what people already said about Helevise’s words, Tongue also said that the God-thief is “someone with strange blood”. There might be more to Antaras than simply studying old and ruthless things…

x_ember_o

The fact that Usma isn't in that line has me thinking this isn't a blessing...

Alex

Oh yeah 100% agree this is not a blessing. Sitting on the edge of my seat.

WeaselQueen

Hold on to your butts ladies and gentlemen.........

Tholfbutt

Marked… and I’m torn. A blessing it could be, but everyone could also be about to be sacrificed. Or it’s a curse. The apathy in Antaras’ eyes scares me.

ObludaNat

... Where is Oudia? Did she die too?

PyritKyrit

"Grasslanders died. All of them died." Oudia is a grasslander, so presumably yes

Rolls

He's going to be the first to go

Han

if he truly had the ability to bless (mayhaps he does), why wouldn't he have done so in anticipation of a disaster? he could have at least 'blessed' his family + himself beforehand. this ain't no blessing...

Robo87

Soooo….seeing how this chapter is Red, I noticed a couple things in the reread In Usma’s flashback, each time we see red a change or major event happens. 1) red intro/Usma’s shocked eyes, and Usma’s birth parents die/she is adopted by Antaras and Oudia. 2) we see Oudia’s red cardinal halv, and they go on the march/find out Oudia is pregnant.3). Antaras sees red on the moon, the storm hits/Oudia and the other grasslanders die.4) Antaras’ blood, and now comes the “blessing”…which is my guess will bring down the stars

PhiPhi

Considering we know what he's ABOUT to do, I think it's safe to assume that ain't no blessing

PhiPhi

Did you notice the antler tine he used to cut himself is the same one that the ring will be on in the present? Cool little detail

Arual

ratt im scared.

Spiritstrike

I feel like this "blessing" is a "cursing", marking them so that they're slaughtered in the night.

Robo87

Yes!! Maybe the blood somehow forms the ring

Tholfbutt

Most likely not.

Givemeyourmilk

I can't decide what would be more interesting- for Antaras to outwardly soften like "of course i will" and give her the murdermark (because let's be honest, him deciding to suddenly give a blessing after he was angrily accused of not saving them with one is great foreshadowing), OR, because I think this is the absolute closest anyone's coming to apologizing, if he would "cruelly" deny her the mark of safety for what she's done, but secretly it is to spare her. Can't wait to see what he decides to do

Stavia

Marked for death, it seems. Makes me wonder if the blood will be enough for the wolves to scent them, or some horrific ritual that’s about to happen.
