So now we know it’s 100% Blood Magic or something of similar sort. I wonder, was this the moment he convened with Eve? Or maybe Loss? Can’t wait for next week!

Steven Marshall

Oh yeah, this is definitely leading to a mass blood sacrifice since he didn't "bless" Usma. Fun times ahead!

x_ember_o

Goodbye March. Hello, Loss!

karlobears

Andy about to live up to his title as God-Caller, because he's about to call god on some very unliked company 😬

Robo87

Come on kids! It’s time for ritual murder!!! (Rip Milli) I wonder if poor Usma thinks he’s rejecting her here by not giving her his “blessing”, and leaving her behind. She doesn’t know what he’s about to do. Sadly this IS where their fracture starts

Rutaceae

It’s joever

Zoey Nillesen

Also from Usma's point of view he left with the whole herd only to come back alone with the animated body of her dead mom... 😳

KitsuneXIII

Definitely a blood sacrifice

Tholfbutt

Oooohhhhh that first panel’s double entendres…

JKurv

Hoo boy, this is gonna be rough.

JKurv

Do ALL of them deserve what's coming? Surely some of these deer did nothing wrong. The herd leader is the one most at fault here. Logic doesn't always have a seat at the table where grief and anger are concerned, of course.

Dinah

I keep coming back to look at these last two pages. They're so ominous.

Dinah

"Time for a blessing."

Sparrow

Did he just mark everyone to trade for his wife 👀

Kwelve

Probably because he's my fave and I can't avoid to enjoy him even if he's so evil, but the 4th pannel... aahbdshfdbh he looks so tired, so empty but a small spark of softness and love towards his daughter T__T

Splendiferous

I just had a wild thought that's probably WAY off the mark, but I've been thinking about how people have pointed out the Seer's comment on Antares having, "strange blood," and now I'm wondering...what if he's a descendant of Mousara? In the story, Mousara came back to earth with scraps of the Moon on his antlers, and while the Stonekrovn were said to have been created to hunt him and his descendants, what if they didn't get everyone? Either way, I'm super excited to see more of Usma's backstory, and how Antares cemented his decision to stay on the path he walks

FelisRin

Oh… oh no. Antares, is this not actually a blessing? I am terribly afraid for these deer. ;-;

PhiPhi

Many of the ones still alive dismissed him and ridiculed him so they are ultimately part of his anger

JKurv

yes, but not all of them. And being dismissive is hardly worthy of death imo. I'm not even sure the leader deserves what's coming...what she did was wrong, but not 'you deserve to be brutally murdered' wrong. We don't sentence people to death for manslaughter via carelessness. She is obviously very regretful and ashamed, too. It humbled the fuck out of her. I'm sure she would spend the rest of her life obeying any and all advice from the herd God-caller without argument (if the rest of her life didn't most likely amount to only a few hours, that is....) None of them deserve to die for what happened. Unfortunately for them Mr. Floof DNGAF. Rage and grief can turn and will turn anyone into a monster. I dunno though, Ratt consistently subverts expectations (which is one of the facets of this story that I love!) so maybe he isn't about to pour a nice hot cup murder here.

Arual

im so stressed.

I had a feeling! could it be!! Sacrifice sacrifice sacrifice! I do feel bad for some of them this situation isn't exactly anyone's fault persay everyone kinda fucked up and they were all victims of nature and timing It wasn't fair that no one heeded antras warning he's a godcaller and he said God was doing something Antras warning did not come to truth until it was long thought to be unfounded paranoia, all deer already have varying belief in the gods as it is And I mean the deer are right to occasionally shift their priorities from God's to just ya know dealing with nature and stuff, wolves, weather, travel hazards ect. Pragmatic things The march leaders didn't think there would be enough food to wait in that spot for undetermined amount of time And before they could even find a new place to hunker down a chunk of the march was dead Also like it's known the gods are fickle creatures, the moon just said that god was watching and that's not a good sign But who's to say how set up that whole thing was!? Like the point of the watching was to be noticed and for antras to make mention of it I have stayed pretty firm on the idea these gods are bored, that they LIVE for the drama What's more tantalizing than someone warning a group, being brushed off and once the nerves are settled once everyone is content that the one who called wolf was wrong, to prove them right Not only the sheer guilt of those who didn't believe But the resentment we know it builds in antras the one who called wolf I'm eating that stuff up from the meta standpoint I don't imagine the gods are experiencing any less joy than I am at the sheer drama I love this story

M0N5T3R5

I think it was only antras who left to go talk to god, but I mean that likely means usma is gunna be witness to a mass slaughter of some kind even if it's just loss coming up and snatching their lives away usmas just gunna be there for that and then reanimated mom is coming with antras Usma gotta be so traumatized Those last deaths really broke her because she's likely seen so so many

Silfnix

Maybe not rejected, but I suspect she feels something is off. He said “you’re my daughter, you already have my blood” which, like, acknowledges his love and bond to her - but in a false way

Stavia

That first panel seems like forgiveness, but it’s really just him saying: “You deserve to suffer the most.”

Cass

I love this theory and I hope you're onto something!

Splendiferous

:D We'll see at some point! Thank you!

Blueprince

Ah, I just realized what happened here— and why Usma was spared…
