No the woofies can't see the deer god. But they can feel it in the air and bursts of wind as it moves, like here.

In the old original plans the wolves were still present during the whole scene and killed in the end, but that whole last chapter was a crowd scene. That's INSANE amounts of work, having to draw so many characters all the time. So when the time came, I quickly scrapped the wolves' further role. Begone puppies. Begone bodies too, they're still there but off-camera. One thing more demanding that crowd scenes are crowd scenes of static bodies.

What is Antaras even doing here

Claudia Petrocchi

This page has sent chills down my spine. Great page and as always, amazing work!

If you can get past the fact that Loss is the literal concept of death personafied into a cosmic entity, it's actually really cute.

Fenlie Harwin

Looks like the action is meant to resemble bucks fighting? Like, if the antlers interlocked and one is thrown to the ground?

Jelly Faun

This is spine chilling. Is the implication that Loss is now his puppet? Are they spiritually fighting? I adore this page.

Spiritstrike

I… wtf is happening? My brain is breaking! Is he puppeting Loss?!

Crickettee | Rich Creations

OH DANG, I didn't realize just how big Loss is, I thought Antaras was standing a lot closer on page 333

Robo87

1. Loss is a LOT bigger then I first thought 2. What the HELL do they teach at god caller 101???

Dean

Would lovee to see like a size comparison of just like, character ref pngs next to Loss' one. I think it'd be fun

horribledynne

omg loss is huge... i love me some skellies so i love it.

Kwelve

The first pannel is so freaking cool!!!!!!!! It looks like its smiling to Anty!! and when it fells, omg its so huge!

LinkaBell

wow Loss is like 3x the size of a Moose he's HUGE

Diznits

i wonder if other species have their own deities... that would be so badass

Tholfbutt

Is Antaras acting… wolf like, almost, in that last panel? Loss is clearly enslaved, here, though it seemed more amused than anything in the second panel before being forced to submit.

I recall something like this being an answer on one of the FAQ pieces Ratt did.

PhiPhi

Nah. It's just a really aggressive pose, IMO He lifts his back right hoof as he's controlling loss and forcing it to bow, then plants it firmly behind him to solidify that forceful gesture. He essentially pulled a power move on loss and pulled a power pose while he was at it

Olive

So from what I understand, Antaras is able to pull loss down like that because of its unbalanced head. I assume loss/death would be innately tied to the natural balance of life and death. So are its antlers/head now uneven as a result of the unnatural(unbalanced) loss of life caused by Antaras? Like - Antaras upset the balance of life and death, and now the god is unbalanced as a result?

Silfnix

Antares summoned a force of nature, just so he could kick it’s ass in a fight!!

I imagine that god-callers are taught the basics by whoever it is that mentors them (helvise mentors isralee, for example), and what they do with that knowledge is then up to them. If they learn more knowledge than others, it's up to them whether they share it or not, but it's certainly not necessary. How would the others know you know more than them unless you implied it somehow, someway, after all? They wouldn't any other way. So there's not really any reason, from what I've seen, for God-Callers to assist each-other. As we've seen, Helvise's and Antaras' partnership is pretty strained. It read to me as though Helvise was only helping him to get something out of it, but she wouldn't have otherwise. Unfortunately she died before she could take advantage of the situation. Also, as established, the halv skulls "deepen" (in what way i'm unsure) their connection with the almighty. It wouldn't be too bold to assume, IMO, that if you were the cause of one's death or you did some ritual to cause deer to die en masse, then eat their halv's skull, it would give you a far deeper connection than just collecting them from natural death. [edit] This ritual being done using the simple matter of blood scent. Wolves are drawn to the smell of blood, as it often indicates a wounded and easy meal. Antaras likely cleaned his wound after drawing the wolves near so that he no longer smelled like blood. You know who still smelled like blood though? The herd. The wolves likely assumed they were injured and would be easy prey, and in a way, they were right [edit] One would say, almost an unnatural connection? One so powerful they could see (and possibly forcefully pull down from the stars.) Karuna's children and possibly "control" them, in a way? In this particular case, [edited] Loss was called down by Antaras via all the deaths. and Antaras eating the halv skulls and then being able to see. control, and trap it before it left back up to the stars. [edited] If Loss is truly under Antaras' control and trapped by Antaras via the ring, I have to wonder if Eve was tempted down by way of wondering where her sibling went, and going to rescue it but finding something far more interesting to play with instead; that being Antaras. So I wonder if she accepted a deal with him on purpose, but has a way to get out of it if things go wrong? I think Eve is playing with Antaras, honestly. Playing his game and biding her time either for entertainment or for a plan of her own. Possibly both, I wonder? Either that or he offered her a deal that she can't refuse in exchange for his child. (temptation wise - or even forcefully as Helvise does mention that Eve is angry at him at one point. Who knows on that. Maybe Helvise was making it up to play with his emotions or assuming incorrectly as silence often means anger. In the presence of a God though, who's to say if she's just truly angry or just... waiting in silence) Something along those lines idk we have yet to find out how eve came down from the stars as we have yet to see her in this flashback

JKurv

Can I ask how the wolves would have died in the original version? Antaras turning Loss on them once he has control, perhaps? Like he did with Prue and Gitta?

Death’s eye sockets make it look like it’s got those wide curious pupils and it’s oddly adorable
