Words to live by...

We're getting back to the present day in February! I think this is the longest flashback the comic will ever have. Honestly I was pretty nervous people would get tired of it, but you've been lovely.

Andy, pal, she's told you. Oudia is gone, all that's left is the fawn inside her... Hopefully.

VenvaTio

Oooooh, Eve you are so gorgeous ; w ; Anyway so i have answer for my question, but still… im little curious what happened that Eve is angry with him

Vallany

"I was worried people would get tired of it" you say, as if this isn't one of the peak segments of the entire comic for me. I've had goosebumps for it's entire duration. It's as entertaining as it is ominous; very

Zoey Nillesen

Dont worry Ratt the flashback had me on the edge of the seat every week. Im heartbroken for Oudia that she never got to meet her fawn. But greatfull that she got to experience motherhood trough Usma. Rest in peace gurly its always the sweetest characters that are ripped away from us. ;-;

Kwelve

I'm so glad the theory of Antaras only caring about his newborn is not more. Poor one, he made all this mess for nothing. His beloved mate won't return to him :'(

Robo87

Now I’m wondering why Eve is so pissed at Antares if she decided to carry the fawn. True he snatched her and her sibling from the sky but I get the impression that if Eve told him at this point “too bad, so sad” he wouldn’t have any fight left in him and let them go. What does Antares do or say shortly that will get Eve so mad she doesn’t speak for months My heart is breaking for Antares. It was never about the fawn; he wanted Oudia back and is struggling to accept that she is gone. The fawn is a consolation prize

JKurv

Eve’s fawn head woke up when she started talking about the fawn in Oudia. The eyes opened and the ear moved… I have a bad feeling. There’s no way she suddenly offered to do this without some secret motive. She’s suddenly acting kind and generous that feels…off. Loss knows what’s up I bet. I have a theory.

Pickle Stamps

Wait eve herself is pregnant, what happens to her own fawn(s)?

Pencil Pavlova

So, I did some Hunting™ and based on how heavy Ouida/Eve is looking in present day chapters, she must be pretty close to giving birth I'd guess 🤔 The question being what Eve will do after? Assuming Antaras even frees her. Regardless, I can't imagine she and Antaras will shake hooves for a job well done and skip merrily in opposite directions... I wonder if that's where Helevise comes in. Somehow turning the favour of Karuna? Making Eve less prone to dismemberment in revenge? Having Eve pinky swear not to feed Antaras to Loss? Remains to be seen!

AdventureLemon

Damn, is Eve essentially holding the fawn hostage? She technically doesn’t have to bring it to term, she just needs to wait for Antaras to die. It’s essentially down to her when the fawn will be born. Such a miserable situation. This flashback was phenomenal, so many things were put into context, and the gods are done really really well. I enjoyed every bit of it!

Katie

The way we only knew Oudia for a short while but it already hurts that she's gone reminds me a lot of Kasko's mom. Him and Usma briefly connecting about Loss having taken someone away from them hits even harder in that regard, they both had such wonderful mother figures taken all too soon💔

BlueAtka63

What does she mean by "whatever she left you"?

BlueAtka63

I did not get that she said she'll have it forever, she just said "to term" (aka, birth). Maybe im missing something?

BlueAtka63

Samee, I love the flashbacks way more bc they explain everything of the present!

mmfris

A fawn is mentioned and suddenly she's interested in "helping" our desperate guy over there... And the little head opening it's eye? Nothing suspicious at all! Oudia is fully gone, Eve is the one gestating the baby now. That fawn definitely won't be normal if it lives.

Waikku

She meant the unborn fawn.

AdventureLemon

You’re not, I’m just speculating! She did not say anything about keeping the fawn forever, but I wouldn’t put it past her to do that to punish Antaras for trapping her. Sorry, my comment probably wasn’t clear enough, I was just thinking of “what-if”s.

Flann Moriath

This whole flashback scene has been, far and away, my favorite part of the comic <3

The Bestiary

I really love this flashback. My other favorite part is when they meet Boneslav's family. <3 There's no part of this story I've disliked, though. You're doing a fantastic job! And the god designs are amazing. I have a deer god of life in my novels and she's not nearly as terrifying as Eve, LOL

Rheanna

“IF it is born…” “…until I’m done.” She hasn’t actually said she was going to give birth to the fawn or that she would carry it to term, no more no less. She could keep the fawn in there forever if she wanted. I don’t think this is kindness, especially not since Antaras threatened her and Loss. I think she sees someone who is grieving, not thinking rationally, and she’s going to take advantage of it because he’s made her very angry.

Wendy Goals

For as rightfully frigid as Eve is toward Antaras, I wonder if she ever had a gentle conversation with poor Usma -- is there mercy in there for the unwilling passenger on this grief train?

Paper Wings

This has also been my favorite part of the entire comic. The scene where they jump to their deaths… I got shivers

Tholfbutt

I feel like there is a laced threat in her words. I fear and respect Eve far more than ever before thanks to this flashback, and rereading the whole comic with a fresh perspective makes a lot more things feel sinister and manipulative. Truly delicious, well written, and deserving of high praise!

Silfnix

I’m wondering these same points; especially remembering when Antares angrily confronted Eve when she wouldn’t speak to him, he asked “when will you keep your promise?”. There is still more flashback to seeeeee

Silfnix

I wonder though, are her moments of “kindness” potentially genuine? A Gods’ whims need no reason, and Iralee said something similar like “What do gods care about morals?” I suspect we’ll see if she’s playing the long game just to Punish Andy at some point in the future. She kiiiinda has every right to do so 😬 sorry Antares, poor broken-hearted guy 😥

Silfnix

Perpetual Pregnancy?

Silfnix

I thought the Fawn head might’ve been a spooky moment, but Loss DID chime in for a moment- I wondered if It was going to speak. I also suspect Loss has some knowledge, but big sister Eve is in charge.

Silfnix

I remember Antres saying that Helevise could tell him what Eve wouldn’t. Maybe Usma will be able to shed light on what Helevise had shared (aside from slinging insults)

Silfnix

And he’ll be lucky if he gets to meet his fawn 😬😥 Whether Andy Lives to see it, or if his fawn is what Eve gives him…

Pickle Stamps

Yeah ik she's eternally pregnant but I wonder what happens to her fawns while she carries another

Jean

I don't like this at all. There's no way her offer doesn't come with strings attached. She could carry the fawn and toy with Antaras for as long as she chooses. And the shot in the upper right-hand corner of Eve towering over Antaras is so foreboding and ominous. He may have the gods on a leash, but he's still small compared to their might.

Kwelve

I don't see Antaras' character being in that way or Ratt writing a character like that, but also I understand why they didn't denies or confirm that theory. The comic will explain it!! Time to time HAHAHA

Kwelve

I guess she represents pregnancy but she's not pregnant perse?? Because imagine, all the time giving birth to eldritch fawns hahaha poor one

Pickle Stamps

No like the creator said eve herself was pregnant just permanently I just wondered like does this effect her own fawns at all

J Patts

I just did a reread and I cant get enough!! I dont know how the rest of this flashback is going to play out. I really want to know what Antaras meant when he said to Usma, 'you stripped me of my name'.

PantheraCorax

All the talk about the fawn head “waking up” and Anty’s fawn-to-be has me wondering if this will be how a new god or half god is made. If Eve is using the opportunity to play around and create something entirely new. Very excited to see where the story goes from here!

Wayfarer

These flashbacks have been my favourite chapters so far. Amazing storytelling.

rattGS

The fawn(s) inside her true form are just like they're outside of her, chaotic growth. They're not actual fawns that would be born, it's just overspill of life and part of her design.

Snowythegryph

She’s always called him by his name, so calling him “sire” feels like she’s dropping the closeness of their relationship and just calling him by a leadership title, no closer to him than a stranger like Gitta and Prue

J Patts

Ohhhh gotcha. I thought it was more that she somehow replaced him as a god caller. But now that you put it that way, I assume she could've done something to help stop this if she were a god caller.

Jelly Faun

Learning this has been a favourite part of the comic!

Emma the Bombastic CowboyClown

No no wait 😭 What did Loss have to say??? Why did he slightly protest??? I'm scared for what Eve is gonna do. She's up to something. She's chaotic growth and without Loss there to end things, she's undying life and overgrowth. WHAT is she going to do with poor Oudia's body and that poor fawn 💀

WeaselQueen

I hope we get to at least see this fawn by the end.
