ooohhh I see a vague outline of a deer in that first panel! most important mom. sort of reminds me of littlefoot's mom here, trying to be uplifting just before she dies. i really love maura.

I’m curious, if Karuna’s children were lured down by praise… who the heck is praising Loss right now?! Scavengers? A deer death cult? This page hits hard, brought real tears to my eyes. Poor mama Maura, and poor Kasko.

Honestly based on the attitude the deer seem to have towards the “weak”, it wouldn’t surprise me if Loss was praised for bringing a more or less quick end to the weak, ill, and injured so that the healthy and strong can survive and thrive in their place. And with the amount of things that can go wrong for deer I’d imagine Loss has gotten a *lot* of praise if that’s true
