It's pretty quick, so feel free to slow it down by clicking the gear icon. I use Painttool SAI, Photoshop and Clip Studip Paint. This particular page took me 3ish hours, but it's a rather simple one due to the easy backgrounds. I work on multiple pages at the same time if they're taking place in the same scene, linarting all of them, then coloring all of them, making background to all of them...

Rough breakdown of how I work!

1. I didn't record this first step: Sketch of the page was done a long time ago. I pasted it on my page template and did the paneling on Photoshop. I also write and position the text.SAI:2. Lineart3. Blocking in characters, hunting for stray pixels (I've started doing this on CSP nowadays) 4. Coloring the charactersPS:5. Backgrounds (very easy in this scene, a lot of copypasting)CSP:6. Bubbles (sometimes I leave them among the last things)SAI:7. Atmospheric lighting to make the characters fit the background8. Shading. I usually shade only the eyes nowadays, but I gave the seer some extra.9. Eye shine!10. Coloring the lineart11. Airbrushing background colors on top of the characters to blend them in more. Painting the terrain over the bottom of the hooves if needed.

PS:12. Fixes to the bg, DUST TIME13. Color dodge to each panel14. Flatten the whole thing, save a couple of sizes of it and call it done, now wait near a year to publish it 😔

Endless Horizon

This is all really awesome info! If you don't mind, would you also share what size canvas and resolution you work on to get the details so clear on every page? thanks so much for sharing!

rattGS

My canvas size is 2100x3150px, it includes a small bleed that I crop out from finished pages. I post full-sized pages here on Patreon, so they're the size that I work on, and the pages I post publicly are 48,5% of the full page!

Oh I LOVE timelape videos of drawings! Do you think you'll share more in the future?

FloralBlood

I like these breakdowns. Very informative! Thank you. : )

I don't know! My speedpaints have never garnered much attention so I haven't thought people really wanted to see them, thus there's not many. I made this one because people have asked to see how I make my pages.

Oh! Love the process and reading the breakdown too!

OMG I don't know why but that gave me such anxiety. Like, I KNOW it's not just simple finger snap process, but you do so so much I don't know how you do it! Thanks for sharing your process!

Ohhhhh it wouldn't have occurred to me to color one character in at a time -- I probably would have gone panel-by-panel, which is a good way to end up with accidental inconsistencies. Thank you for the timelapse! I love watching them.
