Ground yourself, Jett. You’re not okay, but you are alive.

Claws out and hairs standing on their ends show Jet's current mental state really well. Props to Voss for noticing and being a grounding presence.

So it looks like this triggered a bad memory for Jet. Perhaps his partner died in a similar manner? Not that it isn't shocking to just see a death in general, but the set-up here makes it seem deeper, like, as Voss is saying, he's been here before...

A comic about two guys who lost the light of their life, aw </3

Tholfbutt

Pages 22 and 23 helped me understand how to explain what was happening to me when I faced a very traumatic situation. I’d rather not go into full details, but the TL;DR version is that I lost my brother to a sudden heart attack a few years ago. Recently I had a customer who lost her brother and the way it happened on her end brought back all of my grief and anger and I was drowning in the emotions. I felt exactly like Jet in these two pages- and once they were publicly available I showed them to my loved ones to help explain what I was going through. Somehow, with no context as to what was going on, these two pages helped my loved ones understand *exactly* what I felt and what I needed in order to process the events of that day. If you ever needed a ringing endorsement of just how powerful the pain of grief is for a comic, Ratt, let this be it. You’ve achieved exactly what you set out to do with this comic… and in doing so, found such a simple way to explain in two pages. I look forward to how the comic progresses, and remind you to take care of yourself. We’re all going through something.

Thank you for leaving this comment! It means the absolute world to me that people who have gone through something as petrifying as this can find something profound from this project. In a way it's my love letter to the brave people like Jet and Harley. A hopeful reminder that a sad story can end well.

Voss’ words kept echoing in my mind as well, and I realized that they helped keep me grounded. “Come back, you’re not there anymore.” So I started repeating that. “I’m not there anymore. Come back. I’m not there anymore.”
