Lily was right - Mickey Rourke went into boxing in the early ‘90s for about 5years and he got pretty injured and he needed reconstructive surgeries that went wrong.

The UK BB producers have been seriously on top of anyone doing anything remotely aggressive or violent since Andrew Tate was on one of the early seasons of the regular show - he held a knife to the throat to of a female housemate while she was drunk, and laid out on the kitchen counter top and they were alone late at night. He got thrown out within the next day, and they ended up doing a lot of reforms in how things were run in the house. Also it turned out that the production had been contacted by an ex-girlfriend of his who he had assaulted when she realised he was entering the house and they were investigating and keeping an eye on him….

Yeah… I don’t even watch the show. The only season I’ve ever seen was the first because it was always on the TVs at the pub I worked at that year when in Uni. I do (or did) however have a couple of friends who were *obsessed* with the show in the early years. That year it was still being streamed on the website 24hrs so the footage never made it to broadcast. But I vividly remember my friends going insane over what happened - I think they at the very least restricted alcohol in the house if not removed it completely following that incident for a while. Then imagine my surprise when there’s all this talk of an insecure wanker who’s spilling all this misogynistic codswallop all over the internet and I realise it’s Mr Happy Knife 🤢🤦🏻‍♀️

So to explain (not excuse) Mickey, he became well known for the movie 91/2 Weeks, which at the time, was very racy. He didn’t end up keeping that momentum but I think he still thinks he’s hot shit. His surgery didn’t go well and then people ridiculed him for it. Now at 72 he’s still trying to old onto that and he’s a mess. Glad they kicked him off. As far as Big Brother goes, way too much to explain about the costumes, etc. But the people get very close bc they spend every single second together and they aren’t allowed to read or have phones so they will talk and interact. The whispering and writing on the hand (usually they aren’t allowed to have anything to write with) may have been about game play bc it’s about voting people off and making it the end. BB is known for people having close relationships even with the friendly kind.

So many thoughts. First and foremost thank you for covering and with grace. As a queer woman I’ve found it interesting how many people outside of the community feel the right to claim the things Mickey said were “not a big deal” when I feel as if that isn’t anyone but someone from the communities decision. Jojo has her flaws (I.e still supporting Colleen) but she is a human and was CLEARLY upset about the things said to her. Those words were harmful enough to have IMPACT. So it just blows my mind how many people feel the need to minimize that. Additionally, I believe I heard Mickey is the highest paid feature this season. Anywho thank you again!

From the producers (admittedly somewhat limited sample size) I spoke with in my old job - it’s the easy and fast money in comparison to other types of shows. Large number of episodes, quickly and cheaply produced with low production costs and they are great fodder for repeat broadcasts.

That’s really true, so many people have tried minimising what was said to her and they really don’t have that right. Mickey Rourke was definitely the highest paid person in the House this cycle looking at the line up. There was me thinking that we’d gotten the yearly scandal out of the way when Chesney Hawkes stripped off first chance he could - the pearl clutching from my mother! Should have known better than to be that hopeful 😂

No clue what’s going on with it tbh other than the "daily updates" I catch with my Mother watching This Morning 🤣 I think they paywalled it before it died off completely, and I maybe they aired some live on air in the dead hours of the channel. Having said that, the airing live could be one of the foreign versions as for some really weird reason, despite the fact that I can’t stand the show myself, my siblings get obsessed with it, my best friends - both from when I was younger and now - and several friends who live abroad. Including The Netherlands, where the show started 🤦🏻‍♀️

My spouse was watching this with me, and he is a CNA who specializes in Dementia and Alzheimer's patients with high care needs. He has been a CNA in 2 states and worked in facilities as well as home care. I wanted to share his thoughts! He mentioned how Micky's behavior is very common in particularly among men from the Baby Boomer generation. He has worked with the silent gen, boomers, and Gen X clients. And by far, boomers are the most physically violent, sexually violent, and entitled. I asked if he felt that was the generation. But he said it was more indicative of the way our world used to be and the disrespect we were made to cope with in that time from men. It was acceptable to say those things or grope a waitress when he was 20. So when their minds regress to that, it is an uncomfortable looking glass into what our society deemed acceptable at a time. It is still no excuse for the violent behaviors, and they should be taken far more seriously than they are. But an interesting perspective!

I just about died when Jessi called Mickey Rourke an old time actor 😂 I'm old enough to remember him from the 80s before he went off the rails in the 90s. He remember him throwing temper tantrums about Hollywood in interviews and the start of his boxing career in 1991. His face and brain were beaten into hamburger meat. He ruined his career all by himself. I think he's always been a misogynist, but I didn't know he was homophobic. Gross 🤮 There are perfectly legitimate reasons to dislike JoJo Siwa and none of them have anything to do with her sexual orientation. She defenders child abusers like James Charles, Abby Lee Miller, and Colleen Ballinger. She has participated in it herself. Girlies, the eighties isn’t “OLD TIMEY” MOVIES come on! 😱 Mickey Roarke, who was indeed in enough movies to be rich (although I don’t claim him), is indeed a boomer, but he was big around the time I was in high school, 1983-1987–which is Gen X, born between 1965 and 1980. Check out the movie 9 ½ weeks with Kim Basinger—that was when he was considered hot. He never did anything for me, I’ll say that. Gen X. Ya’ll never talk about us, but we were the generation that grew up during the peak AIDS era. We created safe spaces, trigger warnings, political correctness (before it jumped the shark), third wave feminism, fought the battles to liberate the queer community, bridged the transition from the analog to digital age—it was us who forged interest in the internet as a form of communication, via usenet forums, BBS, chat rooms, and eventually what we now know as social media. Millennials didn’t come after boomers. You came after Gen X. Please consider giving us a look—a lot of cool things happened in the eighties and nineties, and I’ll go to my grave stating that we had the best music! ☺️ Edit—I just finished this episode. I’m not particularly thrilled with the lesbian erasure that concluded this. Lesbians aren’t “fluid”—Jojo went on record in the past that she was repulsed with the idea of being with a man. Consider turning the tables and coying with the idea that a gay man was “turned” by the idea of the “right woman”. This isn’t a thing. I’m disgusted with Jojo that she would go with this idea in the service of making a buck. Gross.
