TRIGGER WARNING: Today's episode includes discussions of death & suicide.

In today's episode, we're talking about the new Netflix true crime documentary about the horrific and tragic crash that claimed the lives of Dominic Russo and Davion Flanagan. What many initially assumed was a tragic accident, quickly proved to be something much more sinister, with the judge ultimately ruling their deaths as murders at the hands of the driver, Mackenzie Shirilla, Dominic's girlfriend. Mackenzie is now facing 15 years to life in prison. And while the documentary goes over the case and includes insight from everyone from friends to family to law enforcement, there was quite a bit of information that was not included and has been spreading like wildfire all over TikTok.

Good morning friends 🥰

Mae

Perfect timing! I was just about to get in bed. Now I have something to listen to before I fall asleep!

Ayla Atwood

I was literally just watching the video of Dominic’s mother being notified of his death on Tik Tok when this notification popped up. Not voluntarily, it just came on and I didn’t realize what it was at first. Now I’m sobbing in the bathroom at work 😭😭😭💔💔

Mary Sandy

Oooo excited about this one!!!

Sara

I’ve watched the many different docs on this. She deserves WAY more time. Davion and Dom did not deserve her cruel actions.

Sergio Z Zamora

👀 i just finished watching it when yall posted this. Like legit just now

Eden

She'll never get out if she keeps claiming that it was an accident

Ella

I have pots and when people ask me what it is my response is the same as Lily's 😂 ' blood flow... I dunno .....ermmm.. science' 😂

Lottie Popay

From the fighting in the text messages, she sets up the situation exactly as it happened. They were going fast, he grabbed the steering wheel, he “tried to kill her”. It could be taken as she was trying to set proof of the situation up months in advance. I could be completely wrong but it seems the idea was in her head if that didn’t happen like he said

Lottie

As a person who (resisting the urge to say ACTUALLY) has POTS, you go limp. Personally it seems to impact me first in the parts of my body furthest from my heart and work its way up/ in. I fold like one of those little toys held together by elastic that you push from the bottom and they collapse. If I’m tired, dehydrated or malnourished it happens faster and more severely. I also don’t really loose memory in the ‘full block of time way’ she described. More, it’s fuzzy from when it starts to when I brace myself for a moment or I hit the ground. That’s just me though, can only give my own perspective. All this to say there is NO WAY KNOWN I could keep a leg muscle tense enough to floor an acceleration pedal and keep a steering wheel straight. Whether she had POTS or not, it didn’t cause this. This was blind, incensed rage.

Purple

You guys should watch the Hulu documentary there’s more info there. She did to a test drive multiple times

Chelsea

pure evil and no remorse.

Emily

I remember when this happened. I honestly wish she had gotten way more time. Her parents are just as awful as she is. There is something very wrong with her. This isn’t just teenage brattiness. The whole thing is so sad. Hearing her laugh pisses me off.

Alicia

I think she is beyond guilty but when my dad passed out behind the wheel he hit the gas. His foot pressed down harder when he went out…. (diabetic coma)

Alea Andersen Voss

Ive never noticed Lil's cute pink keyboard, so cute 😍

alexia

oh my GOD i am so ready for this one.

Katie

I am a POTS sufferer myself, and I can say that if I were to have an episode, I would go limp. My foot would slide off the pedal and relax. Luckily that's not even a remote possibility because you can feel it coming on and you would have plenty of time to steer to safety and stop the car. That is complete bullshit.

Cassidy Savage

This is the closest I’ll come to watching that doc. Her and her mother are disgusting dangerous people.

Candice

I think the reason her and her parents are pleading her innocence is the fact that they say she didn't 'plan it'. But even if that's true I totally believe they were arguing, the boys wanted to get out, she wanted to crash! For her if she can't have him no one else can.... Her parents are way more interested in being cool parents than being actual parents and encouraging their daughter to do the right thing....

MD

Months ago, I was doing Rosie’s workouts, I eventually stopped and moved onto someone else because I wasn’t seeing results but it’s so crazy to me that the same girl that was teaching me technique is defending a murderer 🫠

Emmy Glo

I also have pots and as soon as I sit down I feel much better! I’ve never passed out while sitting for long periods of time… or even came close

kylie

i understand why you guys would want to post this here, however i do think this needs to be a dwkt topic because i think this information about the crash that netflix failed to mention would bring an amazing amount of awareness on the main channel.

Haley

I do think this would be a great Main channel episode!!! I don’t mind sharing lol

Shiny

when i’ve driven stoned, i tend to go around TWENTY mph bc i’m so paranoid of getting pulled over!

Matty Ortega

kind of would love more documentary deep dives/commentary from the girlies

Dee

Great episode girlies!! Rip Dom and Davion. 🙏🏼😔❤️

Saige

this documentary was so crazy, i remember seeing tiktok’s when the accident first happened. All i ever needed to know was that no attempt was made to get her foot off the gas or break. she did that with intent to kill them. she’s a monster and i hope she never gets out.

MB

I called this out on a Reddit thread too but it's crazy to me that I haven't seen anyone talking about their age difference and the fact they were together for four years. She would have been ~13 when they started dating.

Leny Santana

Mackenzie’s parents piss me off so much. Like your daughter killed two people, accident or not. Be so fr please. Total lack of accountability from any of them.

Elisabeth Cornelius

Why do her phone call recordings make me think of Ash … ??

Haley Kukan

I will never trust a documentary again after learning how many PROVABLE lies were in the many Gypsy Rose Blanchard documentaries. I'm really hoping you guys will see this on this platform, because I've heard you mention her a few times and I've left a few comments trying to spread the word. Gypsy is a fraud. She's a pathological liar and in my opinion, a sociopath. I used to feel for her until her lies started being debunked. Her mother did not deserve to die. She was not medically abused. There is evidence to suggest they were scamming to get free things from organizations TOGETHER, but there is absolutely zero proof Deedee made her sick. She really does have medical issues. Pretty severe ones. She has a rare chromosome disorder called microdeletion 1Q21.1. This deletion wasn't even discovered until 2008. There is no way deedee could predict the future and match up all her symptoms to what she had. She would literally have to be psychic. She wasn't diagnosed until 2011. That's why she was always in the hospital and at the doctors. Her poor mother was desperate to find out what was wrong with her only child. She gave somebody some of her medical records and the lady decided to release them. That's how the world found out she had this microdeletion, because it was CONVENIENTLY not mentioned in any of the documentaries. There is solid evidence in her medical records to suggest she did need the feeding tube back when she got it. She spent over a month in the "feeding" wing of the hospital getting tests that were overseen by doctors and nurses. They documented her not eating. She had failure to thrive and she was severely underweight. The medical staff literally said she has a feeding aversion. Her mom did not just trick doctors and they put in a feeding tube because of that. That being said, I don't think she needs it anymore (although that's questionable because of how much weight she's lost). It's actually common for kids to grow out of needing one. However, if you pay attention, you can tell she still has problems swallowing. She opens her mouth all the way to take the tiniest bite and her chin juts out when she swallows. Her high pallette has been documented in her medical records. Last thing about this, some years later she actually did a swallow study and FAILED. You cannot fake something like that. Basically, there is an explanation for everything she said her mom did to her. People have obtained the FOIA documents and there is an insane amount of proof in there debunking almost every single lie she's told. There's also the videos she and Nick sent back and forth to each other before the crime. It's very clear she's the manipulative party in the relationship. Don't get me wrong, nick is weird as fuck too, but she's the mastermind. I'll spare you the details, except for one. There is a video she sent to Nick saying that when their future (hypothetical) daughter turns 13, Nick is supposed to take the child's virginity. This is HER suggesting this to HIM. She also says she will teach the kids to keep their secrets, because her worst fear is the kids reporting them to the police and "ruining the fantasy". Her excuse for this is Nick told her to say this. However, no video or message has ever been found of him telling her to say this. She lies about everything, and blames anyone she can. I don't believe her at all. AND NOW SHE HAS A BABY GIRL! You or anyone can find this video if you search for it. Gypsy is a fcking ped who has custody of a child!!! But wouldn't all this stuff have come out in trial? No. Because she didn't get a trial. They gave her a plea deal. Some of this stuff came out in nicks trial, but not all of it. By that time, the documentaries had already come out painting gypsy as an innocent victim and Nick as an evil mastermind. Everyone already believed her. Those documentaries shouldn't have been able to come out before his trial. Only in the past couple of years have people began to unravel her lies. Part of the reason she got a plea deal is because her lawyer mike stanfield and his paralegal infiltrated facebook groups and tested out defenses on the public. There's plenty of proof for this too. That's how they came up with the MBP narrative. They were originally going to go with battered spouse. This case is without a doubt the craziest rabbit hole I've ever gone down. And this psycho is now running free in the world and I can't stand it. That's why I took the time to type this. I want everyone to know she's a total piece of shit who killed her sick mother in her sleep. Somehow they brought her charge down to 2nd degree murder, even though she admits to planning it. They planned this for over two years by the way. It took her two years to convince him. And she paid for everything for him to get out there, like his bus ticket. He was on disability for his autism and wasn't able to afford it. He also has an IQ of 80 something. Low 80s. Obviously he is not innocent, but that shows how easy it was to manipulate him. I think he is where he belongs, but I think Gypsy belongs there too. The justice system completely and utterly failed. There is talks of a new documentary being made about the actual truth. There are receipts for everything I've said, unless explicitly stated it's my opinion. I truly think at least lily would like to know more about this, even though it's way to9 heavy for the podcast. There is a public google drive with all the FOIA documents in it. Sorry for the novel, but thank you if anyone read this far.

Sonya C

One thing that was concerning to me is the documentary only mentioned about the age gap between Mackenzie and Dom only once, and that was the parents acting like it was no big deal.

Jordan

I have POTS. I refuse to accept the accident had anything to do with POTS. You'd go limp, not slam the pedal.

Katie

and like lily said it’s called POSTURAL ORTHOSTATIC (related to upright posture) tachycardia (abnormally fast heart rate) syndrome for a reason, if she was fine earlier in the drive it doesn’t make sense that she would have fainted out of nowhere like that when she never changed positions

Michelle Fernandez

I haven’t brought myself to watch it. I do know the case (hate to admit I’m a reformed true crime girlie). But this one hits too close. I lost a friend about 20 years ago to a similar situation. He was riding passenger in a car he didn’t know was stolen. The driver started speeding away from cops and crashed into the side of a brick building. He crawled out the car screaming for help and died down the block on the sidewalk. He was only 17 and also had a baby boy on the way. The driver survived and I believe is still in prison. But he still survived and an innocent kid lost his life and a child grew up without a dad. Sometimes I can talk about it fine, but other times it still hits me hard. RIP Alex. We miss you so much 🕊️ 😔😔😔😔

FadedFox

Oof I saw this story told on Mean Girl Murders - I think it’s on Amazon prime? Absolutely believe she’s guilty af.

FadedFox

It was on Hulu, actually, oops!

Emma Marie

Girlies I absolutely need yall to look into the V12 restaurant in Atlanta I have been knee deep in the AOA trenches and I think you both would be so tickled and aghast at the same time

NJK_Jinkies

Unfortunately she’s getting out early for good behavior. I think she’ll be released either next year or 2028 🫤

NJK_Jinkies

On top of that, it’s literally proven that her foot was on the gas 100%. It’s impossible for that to be the case if she went faint

NJK_Jinkies

I’m so glad this case is getting more attention because it’s terrifying that she’ll only be 30 when released. Even with Netflix not telling the full story, it has made many creators like you guys providing the public with the full scope of things. Let everyone know what this woman looks like and her full name so people can be informed!

LadyKatie40

I was so bothered about the fact that she was 17 and Dom was 20 and her parents let her live with him. They’d also been together since her Freshman year and he got his own place immediately after he graduated (when she would have been 14-15). What kind of parenting is that??? This whole family is so stunted. The marijuana situation at such a young age and her parents not caring at all was bad enough but I couldn’t get past the age difference between them and the fact that no adult in her life seemed to be looking out for her. I think she’s guilty as hell, but I feel like her parents were grossly negligent and should face some responsibility.

nicole darnell

I wonder if she was setting him up with the messages about him pulling the steering wheel because she knew she was going to kill him

Jessica Jones

I have POTs and I was so angry she is trying to pass this off as POTs. Temperature (usually heat) and the change from sitting to standing trigger episodes. Also, her drinking, taking mushrooms and pot would make things works. I can’t even drink without getting vertigo. She does not have POTs. She doesn’t have a medical diagnosis. You would have seen a cardiologist. And when you get an episode; the last thing you do is press down on the gas peddle and control the car down that road. Your body goes lax. I know I have nearly passed out a few times. No way she passed out from POTs. They got in a fight in the car and she lost her shit. That’s my opinion.

Andrew Giglio

Not to pooh pooh this idea but how would she be certain to kill him and not herself in the crash?

Andrew Giglio

Am I missing something? She only has the possibility of parole after 15 years and she would also be over 30.

NJK_Jinkies

She’s getting released early for good behavior, I heard

Kelsey Cynic

Im not sure where to make a recommendation for a topic (I'm normally a silent watcher) but if you guys need another topic to cover eventually, may I suggest looking into the bricks and mini figs scandal?

Andrew Giglio

Look I'm not trying to be a jerk but she got two concurrent life sentences that only started in 2023, she's not getting out in 5 years. She isn't even eligible for parole until 2037.

Laina

I have POTS and no fucking way. That just doesn’t happen.

Steve Klemow

POTS, hypermobile EDS, they’re very rare diagnoses that have been co-opted through social media to become fad self-diagnoses for the past half decade at least. We’ve been struggling with this issue in the medical community for the past several years. We’re on heightened awareness of these particular syndromes circulating through Reddit and other forums, particularly amongst Gen Z—and she likely did herself a significant disservice trying to leverage this particular condition as an explanation for a black out. If she never went provocative orthostatic testing to help support the condition, suspicion amongst the forensic physicians who testified for the offense would have been high.

Steve Klemow

When I was a kid in the eighties, there was a show on PBS called Zoom, and they taught an almost identical language called Ubbi Dubbi. You would insert “ub” before each vowel in a word, so “friends” would be “fruhbends”. “Hi” would be “hub-eye”. I remember like yesterday that you could send a self-addressed, stamped envelope to PBS, and they would mail you instructions on how to speak it. My friends and I in 6th grade would speak it during lunch, which is seriously excruciating to think back on these days…

Seeree

Yeah, the way she described his mental health struggles seemed weirdly worded Like she almost knew someone else would be reading it and was trying to make him look bad

Seeree

Thanks for sharing. I think if it were real (like in your dad’s case- hope he’s okay!) they would have had an expert medical witness testify. But she was also steering on an S shaped road so her whole “passed out” argument goes out the window.

Alicia

He has since passed away but he lived a long time after the accident. ❤️

Andrea Frailey

Quick point of clarification: while the prosecutor and the police both work for the state, talking to the prosecutor is different. The police are legally allowed to lie to you. Whether that's in an interview or an interrogation. A prosecutor legally cannot lie to you. Now, they're an attorney, so if you make an incorrect assumption they don't have to go out of their way to correct it, nor do they have to volunteer information. But they cannot lie. The police can.

Morg

She’s not even up for parole until 2036, or something like that. She is not getting out that soon.

Brooke Erickson

It’s so funny to me when Jessi says “it’s not pig Latin” and then perfectly describes pig Latin 🤣🤣🤣

BlizzardOfOzzy99

I like that you bring up Peter Monn's accident. He was absolutely devastated and did not post for a long time. He doesn't even drive anymore. He showed actual remorse. I'm a long time fan and love him!

Torie Gatti

I paid for this Patreon specifically for this episode and it did not disappoint lolol love you girlies. You guys should cover more viral documentaries. I loved your takes on this one 🔥🔥🔥🔥

Mandie

Everyone PLEASE go with the petition on change . org. It’s to create the Davion & Dom law. The sisters are trying to create it in a way to expand the Son of Sam law, to now include social media AND family members from profiting off their crimes. Kenzie is convinced she’s gonna write a book & become a model when she gets out. And the boy’s families don’t want her to be able to become the next Gypsy Rose & Casey Anthony!!

Cassidy Lamb

Thank you for bringing up the dr input bc I feel like that’s not talked about enough. May 28th 2016, my friend & I hit a pole (right in the middle of the truck) going 80+ mph. We went over a bridge & crossed 4 lanes of oncoming traffic before impact. My friend truly passed out at the wheel, when I woke up I told them I remembered passing GFF & texting my mom… they told me that was miles away from where we crashed. My point is, that girl remembers. Everyone thinks I was trying to stop the truck, but I honestly don’t know. Once you hit something with that much force, your memory is HEAVILY impacted. No way she remembers just turning.

Uhh_For_Why

This story hurts me so bad, I have to watch this episode in sprints. Idk if anyone remembers, but the accident in Vegas with Henry Ruggs (the raiders player) and Tina Tintor & her dog. Tina was a long time friend of mine. We were coworkers and then grew close through my early 20’s. 💔 Henry was going 156 MPH when he hit that back of her RAV4, and she burned alive w her dog ): Somehow he and his girlfriend survived.

Paige

I have POTS and have passed out while driving (probably not due entirely to just the POTS) and I can with my whole chest say that I do not believe that is what happened here. I just went limp at the wheel and then came to and we were still moving but not quickly. The accident actually happened because when I came to I panicked and overcorrected and it was raining so we slid into the guardrail of a bridge. Luckily me and my sister were fine. The car was totaled but it could’ve been much worse. It all happened in just a few seconds. It is super unlikely that you push the accelerator all the way down with that much force when you’re unconscious. I’m not saying impossible but there’s enough evidence here that POTS isn’t enough of an excuse.

Sam

I have POTS, I have a “milder” case of it even though I have days where it’s debilitating. Doctors correlate a lot of my case to core strength and being active my entire I life (I was a dancer). There’s different kinds of POTS in terms of passing out, I have presyncope meaning I have all of the symptoms prior to passing out, but I don’t fully pass out and become unconscious. I’m on several medications so honestly maybe I would without them i’m not sure. I sometimes stand up to fast and my vision goes black specifically in morning, I get dizzy, and lightheaded, etc. But again don’t become unconscious. I really do believe it’d be rare to pass out while already being in a seated position for at least more then ten minutes, usually people sit down to find relief. I just find it hard to believe all of a sudden she’s seemed to have presyncope POTS by not ever passing out but then all of a sudden she passes out while sitting down in a car. It doesn’t makes sense. Now I know they didn’t find anything in her labs showing she was high but I have no idea how multiple uses of shrooms or long term usage of marijuana would affect POTS. She may never look sick but I think the fact that she’s not being treated while in prison with medication or seeing a doctor tells me a lot about how serious her POTS is. It’s frustrating that she’s trying to use it as a scapegoat.

Purple-Lemon13

Its wild how much the documentary left out. Such a sad case. I hope justice is served.

Mo Medusa 🧡🤍🩷

I just watched rotten mango go through all the texts and I had to turn it off because it was SO triggering. I remember being that anxiously attached, granted obviously not as bad and I would’ve never let it get even close to that far, but some of those texts were so reminiscent of old relationships I was in and it scared tf out of me thinking how easily it can flip into this.

Sophie Hilo

i know this episode is older, but if anyone is interested in more information, rotten mango did an incredible super long deep dive!
