I started this week with a one-day turnaround of a hands-on DJI Flip video. Then, I got busy doing absolutely nothing on a beach while on a family vacation. Okay, that's not totally true! I also drank a whole lot of light beer with the occasional Mai Tai too.In my spare time, I have been able to watch youtube, read more, and plan for the future. So here is more on all of that!

I'm True Neutral. How about you? (source: vaultedlaugh)

Things I saw:

A photographer and his 88-year-old Grandma road tripped across the US.

There are some stunning moments in here that feel both fleeting and loving and left me wanting to call my own Grandma.

AI vs. the environment in 60 seconds

In an attempt to learn more about just how bad data centers can be for the environment, I have been led straight to 60-second explainers done by folks who are also either doing their makeup or hair. An amazing intersection, in my opinion. Lately, I am feeling more and more compelled to report on this, too, so if you have any articles, research papers, or videos to share, please pass them along.

Linus (LTT) on the Jimmy Falon show with Bad Bunny

This has to be the strangest collab I have ever seen.

This Month Was Tough on Us.. (PewDiePie)

I was never an avid PewDiePie watcher, but I have been hooked ever since he started releasing these monthly vlogs. It is amazing to see this softer, lighter side of him. It feels more authentic and easy to connect with. Like me, he also seems to be a Nothing Ear (open) user. I guess I'm a PewDiePie fan now!

Things I listened to:

Maine - Noah Kahan Loop w/ Rain Sounds

I am not a huge Noah Kahan fan, but this is a great loop to write to.

Encores • Ep01 | Remi Wolf - Soup

Since the moment I heard her song "Shawty," I have been a huge fan of Remi Wolf. Fun fact: She was an American Idol contestant before going solo.

Mumford & Sons - Rushmere (Official Video)

The band is back together, and it sure sounds like nothing has changed.

BAD BUNNY - DtMF

😭😭😭

Things I read:

Thank you to Patreon supporter Cory Zanoni for reminding me of how great My Chemical Romance's Danger Days album was and supplying me with some great reading this morning via Bluesky. (If you are on Bluesky and I don't yet follow you, please drop your handle so that I can!)

This morning, Cory shared an incredibly optimistic piece from Joan Westenberg titled "We Don't Need More Cynics. We Need More Builders." In it, Joan argues that "while perfect solutions may not exist, better ones do," and while it may be harder to create than critique, it is something we all should at least try to do.

As a serial optimist, I ate this up!

But what I enjoyed even more was then reading Cory's own story of battling negativity. It's a great read that is incredibly honest and vulnerable. And together with Joan's piece, it gives a full picture of the human experience—the setbacks of negativity but the push of knowing something better can be created. If you enjoyed the above, I highly recommend subscribing to Cory's great Buddhism philosophy newsletter, Design Your Zen. And if you, too, have a newsletter, please share it so that I can subscribe!-----

As always, thank you for your continued support! Next week, I will be out in San Francisco for Samsung Unpacked. If you will be there too, please say hi!

Cory! I hope I got that all right - please add anything I may have missed!

TJ Kincaid

Chaotic good, mostly. 😆

I'm aspiring to become a double-stacked Lawful Good. But with this kind of a dream, an Apple Vision Pro suddenly becomes a cost-efficient solution, haha

Matthew Rudomin

My dream setup is three monitors. One laptop, one vertical, one horizontal. But currently I have one laptop and one horizontal..

Yeah the data center thing is ... well, quite a thing :) Yes new chip are as efficient as ever but they also consume more power than they ever did in the past. To put it in a more consumer type perspective - your top of the line graphics card of yesteryear consumed roughly 450W. Next gen graphics card will be even more efficient than that old thing but to get even more performance they'll consume 575W. So it is more efficient and requires more power too. This applies to most cutting edge tech which is the tech you'll see in data centers. From my understanding most of the "issues" here come from the slowdown of the manufacturing process and so silicon needs to be pushed to greater lengths to get the gen on gen gains we got used to in the past couple of decades. It is more efficient but to keep the gains up it also consumes more per unit of said tech basically. Couple that with "needs" of a booming industry like the AI one and... We have an equivalent of another country on the planet energy consumption wise. Just my 5 cents, and I'm not trying to say something is necessarily right or wrong with this whole approach. We are all using the latest and greatest tech aren't we? Appreciate you trying to report more about it! Enjoy your vacation and thank you for all the lovely content Becca!

At home I'm lawful neutral (with my work laptop on the left of the monitor and my personal laptop on the right). At work I have my laptop on the left and then neutral good to the right.

Would very much love to see that AI video!

Josh J

Danger Days is lowkey my favorite MCR album, especially with the wild sci-fi world they created for the music videos

Fredrik Johansson

I purchased the DJI Osmo 3 today, I’m going to try it later, I just have to watch some videos about it to confirm that it was a good purchase. Have you used yours any more? Any further advice?

Phil Knall

I can't decide if I'm lawful evil or neutral 😅 laptop down below and two fairly equal monitors above it!

Steve Lionel

Also True Neutral here. I am also on Bluesky, but I can't find you there by your name.

i recently started re reading the Steve Jobs biography by Walter Isaacson. As much as I admired SJ as a great product man, his life stories reminded me how human and imperfect even he was. Having said that, his conviction and obsessive focus on creating the best tools was what I found aspiring. 2025 is going to be a big year for me as a entrepreneur. Wishing you and everyone success this year!

Justin Bennett-Cohen

I love your little newsletters :) are we still getting a behind the scenes video for the DJI vid? The BTS vids are really inspiring for me

Justin Bennett-Cohen

Scratch that, I just saw you have a BTS journal instead, which makes more sense since it sounds like you were out of your normal shooting space and in a time crunch with the drone. Loved the vid 😊

Cory Zanoni

Bang on, totally right. Thanks so much for the kind words and the plug – massively appreciated on all fronts. <3
