Last Friday, I got a text from my manager, Cam:

"Who do you think is doing AI content creation right?"

I said:

"Lol no one"

Increasingly, I see AI everywhere- the check out lines in airports, the customer service chats on websites, every Google search, and probably half of the sentences, images, and videos I get served online are made with it. But when it comes to the creators I follow, to my knowledge, they are all still real people, hitting real record buttons, on real cameras, showing me real things from their real lives.

I tell myself that it will always be this way. I tell myself that real people follow real people, that I will always follow real people. But I also used to tell myself I would never pay for an AI service like Gemini, and, well... now I do.

And while I like to think that an AI chatbot is far from an AI creator, or a creator who proudly and heavily uses AI, tech moves fast, and AI isn't regulated. So I actually think those two things aren't too far apart. One is simply opening the door for the other.

Right now, I don't really have a solution or a huge takeaway, but I do have a hope. I hope that real people continue to value real people far more than the 0s and 1s that will someday make up all the AI people and content we are certainly going to be seeing more and more of. And I hope that the majority of creators we love continue to make real things, grow and shape organic ideas, and always use real people to bring 'em to life.

What do you think?

📖 What I read:

Samsung discontinues its Galaxy Z TriFold after just three monthsWelp, I guess we have our answer - three screens is too much phone screen.

The social media influencers now run Washington Square ParkI can personally confirm that this is both true and a total pain in the ass. "Hey, can I ask you a question?" lurking around every corner.

🎶 What I listened to:

I was back on my chill beats to work to game last week and stumbled upon ford.. It's low-fi, but with more personality, and I'm totally hooked.

Music Lights Color at Antelope Island - ford. This is the first one that I heard.

4:38am - ford., BarrieThis was the second.

thursday drive - ford. And well, with this one, I don't remember where it fell in the order. But for some reason, it has the same feeling as just getting out of high school, it's the first warm day of spring, and I'm driving home in my friend's messy af honda accord with all the windows down.

Alright, bud! That's all I got for ya today. I hope your week is off to a killer start. My to-do list says "exoskeleton, macbook neo, oppo find n6, and GAMES" - looking to be a killer week 😎

Appreciate the hell outta ya,Becca

The trifold flop is bananas to me. How did they release a product they were willing to bail on this quickly?

I could have used this video when I had one of those!

I like how this headline breaks at "no." Which would be my preferred response/outcome too. I have to say I'm in a similar boat with AI. I hate the plagiarist aspect of it all, but man does it come in handy when I need to translate something into Japanese (that used to take me hours!) or turn my random note snippets into a coherent trip report... Just... stop making it do artistic things.

Ai art will become better and better until it’s impossible to see the difference. I don’t think the quality of the art will determine if we want it or not. If I watch a video on YouTube and suspect it’s Ai, I feel betrayed. I promise real content but it wasn’t. It gives a bad bitter taste. I think whatever happens it has to be transparent what it is. It has to be my choice. A similar thing is diet sodas. If I want a sugar free drink or not, its my choice. Went to the cinema a few days ago and all their drinks were diet drinks. No sugar option. I usually drink diet soda, but it has to be my choice, not some big company that wants to optimize profits. And now most drinks has started to replace the sugar versions with half diet. And a way it feels the similar with AI art. Companies force it out because they see cost savings. And some use it half way, and it gives a slight bitter after taste like the aspartame in the tonic water. I do use quite a bit of AI myself in my work, so I also feel like I have double standards. This post was written 100% ai free.

yes to choices, and simply knowing/being aware (your last sentence made me smile real big haha). Also, I had no idea diet drinks were becoming the norm... fascinating!

There's so much AI pushback on the ground level - high schools, colleges, etc. Major studios and some creators will try their best to use it to slash costs but I don't think it's inevitable AI becomes the ground. And, in fact, I'd still bet on the opposite.

The fact that OpenAI is basically getting rid of Sora and canceled the partnership with Disney is very telling.

I am a wannabe creator. I went to school but life got in the way and I needed to pay bills so I put a lot of those skills on the back burner. I’m getting back into everything and I had a thought recently I wanted to get your take. I’d like to write a series but always struggled get ideas on paper because of lack of writing skills. My idea now is to use AI strictly for research, pre pro, and bouncing ideas like off of a partner. What I will not use AI for is any video, audio, or graphics. Having these boundaries makes me feel better about getting my project started. Thoughts?
