The backstory of "Shrek" is quite interesting and involves some industry rivalry. Jeffrey Katzenberg, who was a key figure in Disney's animation renaissance in the 1990s, had a falling out with Disney's then-CEO Michael Eisner and left the company. Katzenberg went on to co-found DreamWorks with Steven Spielberg and David Geffen. "Shrek" was seen by many as a satirical take on Disney's fairy tale formula. The film pokes fun at classic Disney tropes and even includes a character, Lord Farquaad, who is believed to be a thinly-veiled parody of Disney executives. Katzenberg's involvement in the project added fuel to the perception that "Shrek" was a form of retaliation against Disney.

It is funny how different people relate to certain actors. You said you knew John Lithgow as the Trinity Killer. My first thought when I hear the name John Lithgow is Dick Solomon from 3rd Rock From the Sun. Lol

Shrek 6 is coming out in July 2026. Besides the 5 regular ones, there is a Christmas and Halloween one. And of course the Puss in Boots spinoffs
