Screaming for this one!! I’m not a huge fan of musicals but this episode is far and away my favorite of the entire series, I’m always so careful to not give a whiff of a hint to any reactors 😁😁 this episode literally defined the trope of shows having a musical episode and it did everything exactly right

Malinda McAteer

Omg. Why do i have to be at work right now? I have been waiting for this one since you started the show. Lol

Syd

My all time favorite episode of this show. I have the vinyl and I know wayyyy too much behind the scenes information about it 😂😂😂 This is why you see other tv shows do musical episodes

George Alexander

LETS SINGG!!! Under Your Spell, and the reprise are defo my favourite songs

Alysha

IM SCREAMING YOURE HERE!!!!!!!

Colleen

You're not alone-my favorite episode! So glad you didn't get spoiled lol. There's a behind the scenes doc that was part of the DVD extras on Youtube if you ever want to check that out! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MNG4ra6F9Xw

Tim MacKay

Boy I yelled at you to get off your phone like 5 times!!! 🤣🤣 SO excited you’re finally here

Brien Michaels

I have not cleared my entire living room to reenact this entire episode while I watch on the big screen. I promise….

If you enjoy this, during a writers strike, Joss Wheddon did a 3 part musical with Nathan Fillion, Neil Patrick Harris and Felicia Day ( youlll recognize her from Supernatural). Each episode is only about 15 minutes long called "Dr Horribles Sing Along Blog". Highly recommend!

Btw, fully lyrics of The Parking Ticket: I’ve been having a bad, bad day. Come on, won’t you out that pad away? I’m asking you, please no! It isn’t right, it isn’t fair. There was no parking anywhere. I think that hydrant wasn’t there! Why can’t you let it go? I think I’ve paid more than my share. I’m just a poor girl, don’t you care? Hey, I’m not wearing underwear… Sang by Buffy and Angel executive producer Marti Noxon.

When I was in middle school, I tried so hard to find the songs on limewire and download them to my mp3 player and the quality was so bad. & later on I saw the OMWF CD at Best Buy when I was shopping with my dad and I don’t think I had ever begged for anything more in my entire life! And he told me no because I was already concerningly obsessed with Buffy and never doing my homework because I was always re-watching episodes on FX in the afternoons🤣 Then for Christmas that year, I ended up getting that CD, and the Radio Sunnydale soundtrack- which is a culmination of a lot of the top songs from the entire series that I really encourage you to check out once you finish the series. It was the last gift I opened. It was all I wanted, and I didn’t think I was getting it. I felt like Ralphie in a Christmas story 😂😂😂 & I only say to wait to check out the radio Sunnydale album because there are a few songs and themes from later this season as well as season seven that you shouldn’t get spoiled for. But it has a bunch of songs from bands that played at the bronze, themes from certain episodes, the original theme song recorded by The Breeders, score from big episodes like restless, the gift, etc.. It was the first time I ever cried from receiving a gift. The only other time I cried from a gift was last year, when my sister paid for a cameo video from james Marsters on my birthday where he sang happy birthday to me and hyped me up in character as Spike. Some obsessions never die LMAO

Janine

Radio Sunnydale is a banger of a CD!

Janine

I love you 😂

i took a long lunch to watch it.

Malinda McAteer

I only have an hour and a half more to go. Lol

Yes, we're finally at the fun musical episode where Willow sexually assaults Tara (magically wiping her memory means no ability to give informed consent) and Buffy tries to kill herself. I love this episode, it does kind of remind me of one of my favourite musicals (and movies) of all time, Cabaret, where the songs hide a lot of darkness and deeper meanings. The demon, 'Sweet', is also played by the late Hinton Battle. Hinton Battle was a legendary Tony award winning Broadway star and choreographer, who trained under George Balanchine in the American Ballet Theatre, and danced the role of The Scarecrow in the Wiz, before Michael Jackson took the role on in the screen adaptation. His multi dance genre training basically made him a modern day Gene Kelly in terms of his ability to switch between different dance styles in a single performance, brilliant. They dimmed the lights of Broadway in his honour as a memorial when he passed. Here we go, Hinton Battle performing at the Tony Awards in 1985 and in 'Sophisticated Ladies' 1981 (dancer in the orange shirt during the tap duo set) https://youtu.be/eOBeAb9pGs4?si=J3lglPyc4xR0x7ht&t=132 https://youtu.be/y9T2UHUdhDM?si=LyjG-1j3vRSnCaOA&t=204

No recency bias for me. I’ve seen the show countless times. This is my favorite episode. Since Buffy is my favorite show, this is therefore my favorite tv episode. You caught most of the reasons why this is so brilliant. I really enjoyed rewatching this with you. As others have said watch the accompanying making of. They all did a wonderful job, playing to their strengths. Alyson didn’t want to sing and Joss managed to incorporate that in the musical in the way that would make sense. Willow is a powerful witch. Makes sense that she would be able to resist the spell more than everyone else. Michelle didn’t want to sing either and, as a trained ballet dancer, wanted a dance scene.

If you go by the additional timeline of the comics then Ethan is alive at this point, but still imprisoned by the Government from when he was captured the The Initiative. The character was eventually retired after Robin Sachs' death in 2013.

Malinda McAteer

The "What the hell are we doing here?" cracked me up. Lol

Malinda McAteer

Since you like musicals, Joss Whedon wrote another one starring Neil Patrick Harris, Nathan Fillion and Felicia Day. It is called Dr. Horrible's Sing Along Blog. You definitely should watch that. It is amazing.

Malinda McAteer

Lol. I literally just remarked the same thing. Definitely worth checking out.

Was the dance where she starts to catch fire Buffy's second suicide attempt of the season? After the tower incident with Dawn. Although the demon's power was to dance people to death, both Spike and Dawn seemed worried that Buffy was welcoming the dance. Luckily Spike would rather kiss our suicidal superhero than kill her these days.

I was waiting for this reaction for a long time. That’s smile in your face 😂 like a kid watching a Saturday morning cartoon. Ethan Rayne was taken into custody by the military remember. Just to give you a heads up - take note that you need to watch the intro to episode 19 in its whole entirety.

I’m sure you know that the musical episode has its own album and that it’s on Spotify by now. It’s one of my most played albums every year lol. I don’t typically like musical episodes (love musicals though) but in this they cover SO MUCH in such a short amount of time by going the musical route that it’s def one of my top 5 episodes

One of my favorite musicals...

There have been multiple times in your reactions up to this point where you have said, “Where do we go from here?” and every time I’d be like 🤭🤭🤭 he’s making a reference he doesn’t know yet 😏

honeybumble1012

I’m glad you enjoyed this episode so much, it’s easily my favorite! I recorded it on VHS when it aired so I could rewatch and listen to all the songs 🥰 Spike’s song was always my favorite 😍 and I’m happy you commented on Buffy’s fourth wall break! She acknowledged us! She knows we’re here! Ugh, I love this show 🤩

Cabaret is also one of my favourite musicals that's why it was such a treat when Joel Grey popped up in season five

BattyT

Great seeing you have so much fun with this iconic episode Spike’s and Willow and Tara’s songs are probably my favorite, although they’re all amazing, and I always love Giles getting some singing time. An interesting fan theory is that Willow doesn’t have her own confessional song because she doesn’t feel conflicted about anything and believes her excessive and manipulative magic use is justified and helpful.

YNergy

Hey - I THINK you said you really like musicals. Have you seen the Rocky Horror Picture Show? (I THINK the film just hit its 50th anniversary.) IMO it isn't the same without the audience participation but its still such an amazing film.

YNergy

I can't wait to see you react to it!

Monica

The "Dawn is in trouble , must be a Tuesday" was a little nod to the fact it was airing on Tuesday nights at this time

Finally!!!! Spike and Buffy!!!! I've been waiting for that since I found out at some point in season 6 they get together. I feel so bad for Tara she's too good to literally have her memory messed with and my opinion is really changing with Willow. I agree it was the best episode yet. I'm a former Theatrical actor and director who did act and direct musicals m..these are usually hit or miss. Greys anatomy was terrible but this was amazing.
