Do we need prior knowledge of everything that happened before or can we jump right in? Keep in mind we were SEVEN YEARS OLD when this was running lol. Just asking before we decide if it will be added to the lineup

Comments

Adebayo Adeniji

Nah you don’t , they fill you in immediately and it’s easy to start from the jump

Garlic

Not sure. Just here to flex my response time.

Helpy

You can watch it without knowledge (idk what I’m talking about I haven’t seen it)

Rafael Villanueva

It is a direct continuation. I think you can still go right in. I don't remember much from the old cartoon since I last saw it around 2015. But I can still pick up some things.

CleoKujo

I don’t even think I was born lol I was born in 2000 so I definitely don’t remember

My

So far no. You’d pic up plot line just from context clues but I would definitely watch you guys react to the 80s show just cause it’s so gas and ahead of it’s time

Divinerights

I’m pretty sure it won’t be essential. You have enough basic Xmen knowledge to know what’s what

Camilo Lemos

Nah you can go right in. If you remember, most of the 90’s cartoons were episodic and didn’t really have an over arching story over the seasons, except for “mutants bad in the eyes of humans”. You’ll like it a bunch I think, if you watched any of the movies you’ll know enough. They have cyclops the sauce 🔥

Dog Nibba

I don’t even know what this is, if anything I’d ask good ol google

Alec M

I wasn't born yet. Just here to flex my young able-body.

Raain

Damn y’all some old heads

The Endless

Y’all don’t know much about comics except the bare bones factoids that get passed around on social media so no not really. The show leaned more towards their comic counterparts so you can treat this like any other Marvel related reactions.

Derek

Nahhh just watch that jawn

bleach

Honestly just watch a recap on YouTube but you can jump right in

Marcel

Not really

Imani Brooks

How old are you? They're only 34 if they were born in 1990, lol. Edit: Never mind. Forgot what year it came out.

Jaminica

i watched a 30 minute video to catch me up on everything before i started 97 it it kinda helped

6CatsInAnAlley

I personally only seen a couple sporadic episodes as a kid so I myself might rewatch the og series

Jonathan Sessoms

Not really they change the ending to season 5 which honestly I am happy about and they do fill you in not gonna lie tho X-men 97 is peak had me watch that and shogun while doing a 12hr shift made my night go well

LiquidXGravity

Basic X- Men knowledge will get you through the show

Jalan

Kind of low key

dom

just jump in

glowmh

Never watched the show, yet didn’t have any trouble watching the new one!

Musa

Basic knowledge will get you buy or a small youtube video for catchup is all you need. Fantastic watch right now

Desert Penguin

Just watch the recap video on Screencrush. It's really good and to the point

Kevin Akau

i haven’t watched the original and i followed pretty well as long as u have basic x-men knowledge yall should be fine

BONE DRAGON Vids

Please god no there’s so many new shows you can hop into too

Omar

Think there is like a quick recap video, but casual xmen knowledge is good enough. Hell, even no knowledge is fine.

SøvuOwO

I def recommend watching it all, would make yall more invested in the characters

Denickart

Idk I'm 3 seasons in and so far it's had an arching story. Even the episodic episodes are direct sequels to other episodic episodes.

Ayojii

No you only really need X-Men base level knowledge basically

Renzo

NAH JUST JUMP RIGHT IN!!!

gamerman1902

I haven’t watched the show in years and I was able to follow along with this just fine. As long as you have some basic x men knowledge you should be all good

PJ Rivera

Never watched the show (I wasn’t even born yet) and its a little confusing but you get filled in a little bit as it goes on.

Thomas Ramirez

i dont have an answer in for you but i wan to comment hahahahahahaha

Shiki Granbell

You can jump right in but also- ROADHOUSE

MethodTKT

harley quinn? or was that show dropped?

Chris

I don't think so. If you have a basic idea of the X-Men you should be good and it does a pretty good job of filling you in on the big plot points that are impacting the story. Think it should be pretty straightforward to pick up from the jump, as someone who hasn't watched the old show since he was a kid and kept up fine.

Jamaal Ellison

Nope just jump in you'll be fine. But Screencrush and NewRockstars have recaps I believe.

Jeremiah Wagner

Yeah I believe you can just jump right in

King of New York

It's basically season 6 of the original show so if you guys can I'd recommend watching some sort of recap. That being said they do a pretty good job of laying the audience into it so if you guys just pay close attention to everything being said (Which you're great at) then you should be good.

pmreez

Honestly if you want just find some recap on youtube. If you or lupa know any general famous x-men story lines, it’ll help but the last season was kinda jank imo so

Expectaytions

Just watched both EPS this past weekend, the show gives tells as to previous material that you would have had to watch before to really get, but I jumped in and didn't feel like I needed to watch the previous stuff so you should be good

Devin B

Definitely need like a quick recap but as long as you recognize the characters that should be good enough

Cheesecake

then theres me: wtf is x-men

Zqon25

go for it. jump right in

J. J.

Jump right in, as long as you have basic knowledge of the xmen characters. Xmen 97 is amazing.

Carlos

They released a "Previously On" video that catches you up on significant story beats, and the episodes themselves do a lot of filling in as well.

Requiem_Phantom

Yall should check out The Gentlemen on Netflix. A good show and watch.

Smash Bran'Discootch

There's a video on YouTube that's like "78 episodes in 37 minutes" that will catch you up on everything you need know. You CAN watch it without that, but you'll all be confused by a lot of things.

Aks 321

You don't, they recap everything from the original series anyway!

Daniel Turner

can just watch a summary video of what happened

El Barto

Watch a recap on YouTube and you're good to go

LiquidXGravity

I'm only 28 and I get called old man by teenagers and people only 3 years younger than me lol 😆

Tired_Artist04

I know everyone saying “just jump in” but I think that’s kinda cheating

Dexter Blessed

I don’t think you really need any prior knowledge about the series to enjoy the new one

Denn B

NOOOOOOOOOOOOO

BluJay

I would recommend watching a recap video to catch up. That’s what I did. This is a continuation of the original show.

mondawmin mall

Anyone who's saying you can just watch it isn't technically wrong but keep in mind it is a continuation of the storyline. It is like a new season of that show and I don't think you would start a show in the middle of its fifth or 6th season

S.D.Law

I recommend watching x-men evolution. I grew up watching that and it gives you young justice vibes

Jazmyne Mattucci

Just peep the recap and your good to go, my dude.

CACTUSJEET

You guys were 7??? Damn y’all old. I wasn’t even born yet

Dc Jerome

I’m watching it without ever watching the original and only watching recap and seem to know what’s going on

Game Thrower

I haven’t watched it in a long time too and I jumped right in. As long as you know basic knowledge of X-men I don’t think you will be confused. The show kind of gives you enough of the backstory so if you don’t remember you will at least be told.

Jack McFly

You don’t really need to know much, there are recap on YouTube. If you interested, I say watch a quick general recap and you guys good go

Fred Rechid

I tried jumping right in and was lost almost immediately. I watched a recap and I was able to settle right in.

Ant Moe

A quick recap should do it

Renzo

you don't really need a recap they recap on the show i believe

Jalan

I wouldn’t mind y’all rewatching the OG show like y’all did Young Justice and Avatar even though it was mainly Lupa who watched those years ago before y’all reacted to them

JulianV

I've never watched the show, but I watched a recap and went into it and loved it

Alex

watch a recap and yall should be good. You guys should really react to X-Men 97 it's really good so far.

Radeon500

Just watch the show already !!

Danny

i also haven't seen it since i was 10 and will only be watching a recap

Shane John-lewis

Ion think it'll be anything that'll be hard to jump into as a first timer. And damn I lowkey thought yall were Gen z like me 😂.

Maxwinter

Honestly so far you can get by with minimum prior knowledge about the X-men but if you want to be sure it might be best watching a recap video of the old show.

YesMaybe

You’re good, it does enough in the show itself to get you up to speed

Rene Sanchez

It is a direct continuation of the story. I was also young when I saw it and I plan on rewatching the old series before the new one

Tyshaun Patterson

You should be good, I believe they recap it before it starts

sotonye ogan

what else there to know about x-men than there is to know lol its x-men.

Angel

Guys... asking for myself here...is the show any good 🤔 I'm getting mixed reviews from people 😭

WhyWaitChris

Nah, they did a good job of making it feel like you can just jump in. Having prior knowledge just gives you a few more exciting details/ references

LoneWolfNewMoon

rohis, sherra, lupa PLEASE add this when i say you wont be disappointed you wont even if you just jumped in 😂 thats how legendary the show is

Bob Denver

Honestly I don't remember much from the original, still had me completely hooked.

Q

honestly no, if anything the last two episodes of the series

Fuji

nah as long as you have like bare min knowledge on xmen u good

Jalyn Terry

I jumped right in, the show is good at giving you refreshers through flashbacks from the original as well

Ayo

Nah it's probably fine

Ronardom Variation

U honestly can just jump right in it but a small recap will make u appreciate it more

Imari

The recap is enough to get into tbh

EmoBurrito

I mean from what I've heard its a direct continuation, so its best to have seen the original. But its one of those things that you don't NEED to, but should. Up to you guys

Ragdefender2

It was a long time ago for me too. You don't need to know what happened in the show. I think basic knowledge of X-Men is all you need.

KeYo

I mean I'm sure lupa knows the most but as just the knowledge you know of the names would be fine lol or watch a recap

Ajwidascope

No you don’t just basic knowledge of characters 😂

Mikkel Jørgensen

on youtube Marvel entertaintment have a less than 3 min. "previously on the X-men" Recap video. the new series is fun and definitely feels like a saturday morning cartoon show :)

Merfhew

I think you should re-watch the original (or at least give it a try, just to see how it feels for a few weeks). It was such a nostalgic trip down memory lane for me, so if you grew up watching, I think you'll feel the same. By the time you finish the original and the first season of X-Men 97, maybe the second season will be ready (and then you won't need another recap later). And, honestly, if you watch the new stuff now... you'll have a longer wait for the second season (just like the rest of us).

DrSCW

Definitely watch the recap video

StorySmith []

Ya know I wouldn’t say no to a watch through series of the old cartoon…..though y’all schedule probably doesn’t give ya time to do so

Jtrggrhappy

You definitely need some knowledge going in it’s a direct sequel to the old show picking up like right after

Justin Neason

Recap video should be good! I tried rewatching but I couldn't find a remastered version or anything like that and the animation is SUPER dated ngl

Merfhew

For better or worse, I think their channel has gotten to the point where they can no longer guarantee reactions for every hot show and/or every continuation to stuff they previously watched. Even with that in mind, I think it's worth (re)-watching the original series if it's something they'd enjoy. And from the sounds of it, they would.

Semaj Brown

Yes. The first two episodes alone make a lot of references and mentions to events that happened in the original. Characters mention past events. Reanimated scenes that have more impact when you know the full context which you don’t get in 97. It’s completely worth it.

sincere

you guys are good don't worry. maybe the recap video they made to start but as long as you have prior X-MEN knowledge you'll be straight

AvatarJordy

Honestly, I didn’t and I still enjoyed it. It’s a direct sequel and I feel like it references stuff that happened, but it also gives you enough context to follow what’s going on. But of course I’ve only seen 2 episodes so idk

jayyyyyk

Bro just jump right in

DarkGodHao

there's a youtube video about 35 mins will recap all 5 seasons of the original x-men TAS, if you want references and previous incidents main points watch that

Nsfwork

No You can easily watch small recap or just jump right in. As long as you know who the Xmen are you should be good. Lupa will fill in the blanks im sure.

Revstarallstar .

It does a recap. Its not deep. The show from the 90’s loosely cared about continuity

DevilMayCarter

Didn't think y'all would cover this, but glad for the ride. Also, Cyclops Was Right.

Alexis Sullivan

Nope! I didn't watch the OG version and I've watched the new version plus it does a little recap

M00nD0ggie13

Why is everyone watching this now??? I'm soo out if the loop.

DarquanJr

Watch it all. ivenever seen it so il be watching it anyway

Delinda Arts

A recap video wouldn’t hurt at all but you don’t NEED any prior knowledge to go in.

terrell thaddies

Just watch a recap video cuz overall, u don't need to watch the whole OG series to enjoy the revival series

terrell thaddies

It's because X-men 97 is a continuation of X-men the animated series from 1992-1997 with a 5 season run

Harry

Just watched the first 3 episodes, will be happy to hold off and watch them with you guys

terrell thaddies

Alot older. X-men Evolution came out in 2000 X-men the animated series came out in 1992. The new show is continuing from the very last episode of the 90s X-men series

Summer

You don't really need prior knowledge they cover it I'm the first episode

Champion Bescos

Damn. Am I the only one hoping they don’t cover this show? Next month is gonna be absolutely STACKED with new and returning shows. And June is gonna be insane as well. Respectfully, them covering a frankly underwhelming (so far) Disney+ show seems like it should be low on the list of priorities… but I guess I’m in the minority.

addnid07

it's okay to just watch it right away if you know x men a little.

rickie woodson

Its mostly knowledge of the villains. They make off hand comments like "him again? But we defeated him back in season 1". There are tons of recap vids on youtube though for a refresher, including one from D+ tilted "previously on xmen". But i know people who jumped in either only read the comics or watched the movies and they didn't feel loss. Granted, i can't speak for the future episodes

DIOR

youre high as shit this shows a masterpiece so far

rickie woodson

Xmen are a super mainstream legendary team. Before the avengers there was xmen so there is love, Nostalgia and notoriety

AJ Williams

there some videos on YouTube that will explain the show in minutes but honestly if you watching for fun then no. if you want to be immersed then find some vids on the old series before watching.

Dezmond Broadway

I watched the first two episodes ad enjoyed the hell out of it. I remember nothing from the original considering a watched it when I was I kid.

JB3

You absolutely need no prior knowledge but the ending. Which was Professor X dying, which they show that anyways.

KJ-103

New Rockstars did a pretty good recap video of the original show

DarkGen95

I'd honestly like to see y'all watch the whole thing from Season 1, but if not New Rockstars did a good video from what I hear.

Isaac

Yes, you do. Watch a recap timeline video. Dunno why there's people saying you don't. This is a continuation of the old so you do need to know what happened before because you'll make some assumptions on established characters and then people in the comments will clap you up on making assumptions on certain established characters because they're established characters you should know about with their motives. Especially non mutant characters because of how established they are from the previous seasons.

Isaac

The show doesn't cover any details. They do need to watch a recap or they'll get clapped in the comments with their anime assumptions.

Isaac

Wrong. They need character and event knowledge otherwise people will clap them in the comments.

Isaac

No they cannot. They'll get clapped in the comments with no prior knowledge of past events and established characters.

Jeremiah Wagner

Idk about that. From some of the comments here they’re saying the original series didn’t really have much of a continuous story. And people who didn’t watch it before seem to like this new series. Plus I heard it gives a recap at the start

Oderah Arinze

No you really don't, I didn't watch it and still enjoyed it thoroughly.

Johnwick

Dont really matter

Berts Tv

Yeah you do skip this

heylo

No not really. Maybe just watch a recap beforehand

JPowerFTW Random stuff

I would just watch a recap video just to be in the know about some things

DIOR

You probably think Undead Unluck is a masterpiece like the rest of those retards, ain't shit dropping anime wise that deserves to be on the schedule over this when multiple dogshit shows like Bootygiri and Undead Unluck and classroom of the elite on here right now.

Justin Hearst

Honestly, as someone who grew up on re-runs of the series, nah, A recap should be fine.

Jesus Perez

You will miss references and the nostalgia invoking bits. But still react to it.

PersonaFyde

I never watched the original show or a recap and it was pretty easy to follow. I’m probably going to watch the first series eventually though.

Invader Rin

Just watch a recap or something. As someone who vaguely remembers the original, I'm still getting enjoyment out of this. But after watching a recap I feel like up to date on some story lines.

Norrin Radd

You should DEFINITELY watch season 1. Outside of that there are great arcs to watch but nothing necessary for the new show. DEFINITELY season 1 though. You can watch it on your own time if you want.

Void

It's not necessary, a quick recap vid on youtube wouldn't hurt tho

Jordan Hackley

Just watch the recap video on youtube lol ya'll will be fine trust me

matthew

Yeah just watch a quick recap and you’re fine

joe

y’all should watch roadhouse on prime. it’s definitely something y’all would like

Url Robbo

Just watch the series recap ok New Rockstars its a hour

Jay

Pls watch roadhouse it just dropped on prime and it wud be an amazing watch… pls pls pls guys

Ernest Moran

Not really just the recap and you're good

Manuel Freitas

It's worth it either way and the themes hold to this day, but you can also watch some videos compiling the information of the old series. I think ScreenCrush and New Rockstars did some of those, but I can't vouch for how good they are.

rickie woodson

Just react to the whole 90s series 😁 its only 76 eps. I finished 2 seasons in 24/hr 👍 its the best animated series EVER in my humble opinion and id gladly wait however long it takes you to finish xmen 92 to get to xmen 97 (for the haters: i know they wont do it, just wishful thinking)

Khalil Walker

No prior knowledge is needed but I would watch the original first. There is a lot that you can learn from the original like villains, hero’s etc. Watching a recap will help as well. It’s just a lot of cool moments would be missed if you didn’t watch the original.

rickie woodson

Yeah but im being realistic. As another commentor said: a lot of returning shows are coming up and the summer is packed. But if they can jump on snowfall and avatar years later? There is a slim chance so fingers crossed. I say put it on a poll and may the odds ever be in our favor 🙏

Yahroh

Show some youtuber love and watch a recap and pick it up. I saw a bunch of people binging the old show. but i got too much in my life to rewatch all that

George

Kengan Ashura has some of the worst animation I’ve ever seen

Keziah

Please watch a recap and then go into 97 that was just released. I haven't yet started episode 2, I'm waiting for yall :(

Jay.NAS

Just watch the new rockstars recap it goes through the most important story points then you can start. very detailed video should be fine can even react to it aswell tbh I never watched the show but read comics so it filled in the gaps in-terms of how the show went personally 👌🏾

Nichlas

Yoshi watch the older ones on this channel aswell they are awsome

SilverSeraph000

It can go either way honestly. They kind of catch you up with where things were at before, but they have no problem bringing up history for what the story called for. It’s been a while since I’ve seen the end too, but I still like this new season so far.

Clinton the Bingethinker

I remember the opening theme and remember watching the opening sequence to the original 90s cartoon so vividly…BUT for some reason, I hardly ever watched the actual show. I think I only watched like two full episodes. But anyway, I watched a recap on YT and then started watching X-Men 97. I’m following it fine so far, and I think it’s dope!

Neji Hyuga

No? The animation is just bad compared to regular anime’s like spy family

YoNoSe11

I haven’t watched since the 90s either. But with the recap it’s pretty easy to pick up on it. But I wouldn’t mind if you wanted react to the old ones too.

Earphone Jack

I haven’t seen the original X-Men: The Animated Series before but I’ve seen X-Men: Evolution before. I just went in and starred X-Men ‘97 without knowing anything. I’ll try and watch a recap video later.

rickie woodson

Believe it or not there are some channels that did reactions to it in anticipation of '97. One i folllow has finished all five seasons and others are powering through season 1. So we will see how lucrative it is or isnt but yeah. Realistically they can watch in their own time. Such an amazing show that taught me lot including increasing my vocabulary and literary acumen. Thank you Dr. McCoy!

rickie woodson

You are the only online person to say they like x3. I remember when it came out and everyone loved it and made the most of any x film for a LONG time. Then i get into the YouTube cinema space and now everyone hates x3 lol. Cant relate. One is meh but watchable. 2 and 3 are my faves. Im an xfreak. Comics, novels, tv and movies. I consume and (for the most part) love it all. Took a second chance for me to get into evolution cause its SO different from the OG series and regressive in some ways with them being kids, BUT putting aside what is comics accurate: they did their thing. And if you are in your 20s, i get it. My lil sis loves evolution and could not get into the OG series. Its too old for her lol

Ebronics

you don't NEED prior info, but if you want it there are tons of 15min recap videos for the og show to catch you up on where the show left off in the 90's. check youtube (thats what i had to do)

J. J.

I barely remember any storylines outside of Days of Future past and Cable from the old show, as long as you have a gist of the characters you'll be fine. Even if you don't the show does an excellent job on character dynamics for you to pick up quickly.

KarlWittaC

definitely watch a full recap to understand the weight of events

Kelton Jones

When is the ep dropping ? and u guys should watch the original too
