this adaption was a solid 7, maybe a 6.5, but trust me the manga is a straight 9/10 easy. Hopefully season 2 sees proper pacing and more consistent animation.

The artifact didnt age him, Akira is just old. Without going into spoilers from other stuff and the specifics clues. Akira started To you, From me before andy was caught by the union. Andy was caught 50 year ago, meaning Akira is about 50-60 years old.

Director needs to be replaced so season 2 can be fire. I don’t think it’s just the egregious recaps where the time could have been used to make the story clearer, it’s very frequent little details that aren’t technically errors but aren’t the best either. Just a small example that’s indicative of the adaptation as a whole, Autumn telling Andy he would make a good bookmark happens on the panel where she closes the book on Andy. The anime times it perfectly so that the line doesn’t line up with the action so it loses all of its impact. A lot of little poor decisions like that were why I think this adaptation is shaky, but the amazing lore and world that was built shines through still. By the way, the artifact that was used on Rip by Feng and Anno was explained properly in volume extras. It’s called Life is Strange. If you age someone up you age 10x that but if you age someone down you lose that many years x10. If you haven’t lived that long or won’t live long enough using it will kill you instantly by aging you to dust or making you disappear. This is from volume extras on the volume this season ends on so no spoilers.

I'm guessing that we get a season 2 announcement on August 1st. They are teasing an announcement that day and are specifically calling it an "anime announcement" or at least that's the wording I've seen used.

Solid 8 for me. Especially considering this is just the beginning. Hopefully whoever the director is for next season knows exactly when to end so we don't have to go through early 2000s shonen level recaps. But this definitely the best shonen I've seen in while besides chainsawman. Jjk mha feel generic by comparison

Yeah the manga is great they def need to replace the director. You can't even blame the budget for all the recaps because there are shows with far less budget that don't rely on recaps nearly as much.

Most of these anime especially season 1 have similar budgets it just comes down to time management and talent. This show could of easily been a 9 with better direction.

Also take TMS Entertainment out of the picture. David Production does better work on their own (or at least mostly on their own). TMS was apparently/allegedly in charge of production and planning, while David Prod. just did the animation. Makes me think that TMS is responsible for the terrible blocking (and ofc the director obviously played a part).

Which was a terrible decision. Winter would've been a better stopping point. And even if they really wanted to stop at Autumn there are better ways they could've padded the runtime.

A lot of y’all are doing a lot in the comments about the recaps and pacing. It didn’t happen enough to say that it could be a 12 episode season. It would have absolutely been rushed plus you need time to tell a story this detailed and intricate. & honestly as a manga reader this was probably the best place to end season 1. But also no anime I’ve seen has “perfect pacing” compared to the manga so with a recap here and there it doesn’t take away from the story. Similar to books turning into movies there will be changes that can’t really be avoided.

I would have vastly preferred them to just compile and air a full recap episode in order to solve the pacing issues. That way they don’t have to work extended recaps into each episode and people who want a full recap can watch it. People who don’t can skip it entirely. Everybody wins and the end result is the same. The actual episodes will have a better viewing experience. I hope we get S2 and that it’s better in that regard.

THANK YOU! I knew i wasn’t the only one who was confused of way we were seeing recaps scenes of something we just seen in the last episode. I feel a lot of that time could’ve been spent on the more of the story because there is a lot also, we probably could’ve got it afterward where they explain some of the characters and their powers instead of the next episode spoiler stuff

the directing of the anime is amazing its not the studios who choose how many episodes they animate, its the publishers and tv networks. recaps suck but filler is worse, and ending mid arc is even more terrible

So about real UNKNOWN (Akira Kuno) being OLD. You guys forgot that Akira has been writing Mangas since Fuko's Mom was a Kid, he is definitely OLD ASF. The Artifact didn't age him, he actually was very old!

We had the "normal" recaps just like in most of animes series whixh are fine to me but havinf another recap/flashback of soemthing that was like last week or 2 then that is just bad. I know it's not the studio's fault at all it's the publisher(s) mainly. I hope we just only get the normal recaps in season 2 then not many people can really complain about anything.

Instead of dragging out the canon parts to reach this ending, they should have just thrown a whole recap episode or two in there instead. Then the canon episodes would be fine.

The boy made manga that shouko's mother read as a child, so he is old. The clone he made does not age which is why it looks young. The artifact did not affect his age, he was already older.

They did that with solo leveling (granted it’s a 12 episode anime and wasn’t entirely needed) but it’s the most disliked anime episode on crunchy roll now, the show is so good and people were mad they had to wait an extra week to get back to the main story. I doubt any studio looking at that is gonna think “that was good idea, let’s do that next time”
