I never got the theory people have that they were pumping pheromes in that chamber to make them have sex or something especially since the show doesn't make any indication to it or have any sort of consequence for that happening. It just seems like they happened to be put into the test subjects room because it was probably one of the few rooms available for them. Vaults 31, 32, and 33 are the only vaults connected all vaults are usually by themselves so 4 is not connected to 5 and 6 that's also how it is in the games. So far at least, I dunno if they're gonna introduce more interconnected vault stuff in future titles.
