setaria-s

I watched this in theaters three times, and have been looking forward to this specific reaction since I ever saw the movie. Wonderful wonderful film, best Makoto Shinkai work imo!

cyrus gudino

Watched this in theaters with my friends. Was such a beautiful movie and the music on it was so freaking good. Glad to see y’all enjoyed it as well

King of New York

Missed this in theatres! Been wanting to watch it for a while now

AkdrzlLOL

Peak🗣️haven’t watched all of makotos films but your name and Suzume are hits imo. The ost in Suzume especially is top tier.

원 지

damn what a nice movie

LaTesha

I feel him with that next closes thing from Uber eats. It doesn't matter what drink I order when I get Wingstop off Ubereats they always bring me Strawberry Fanta no matter what 😭

Shy

love this movie! yall should watch maquia next!

AniyaNii

yall probably already know but kaiju no8 got copyrighted on youtube

Shawn Oxley

W stream I hope you guys consider garden of words at some point its only like 40 mins though

Robert

I liked the slice of life rebellious road trip aspect of things. Wasn’t the biggest fan of the “love story” or how the magic scenes more or less repeated the same beat multiple times. It’s neat how it all tied together in the end, but liked the non-magical elements a lot more. The side characters here rock.

NecDW4

Was so glad to have seen this in theater.

Daniel

Wait are they starting top boy next week?

SeriouslyJet

Thanks for putting movie & stream tags roshi, been behind w/ stream reacts. having hard time finding it on collection 😁

J Man

McDonald's really be sponsoring these Shinkai movies. In Weathering With You they had that main boy claim a Big Mac and fries was the "Greatest meal in my life"

Davo

feed us horror fans if tht korean horror movie thing is an option, we starvin lmao

godUsoland

Oh, Suzume? Nice pick! This film was amazing in Theaters. Shinkai doesn't miss!

setaria-s

Same, it was the first movie I've ever fallen so hard for, even before I actually watched it. I ended up seeing it in theaters three times. I was SO pissed that I missed the free fan signing by the director 😭 The ONE time someone Japanese decides to visit in my city and I miss it because it was free but needed tickets...

Monae Durham

W Stream. You should totally check out Dark Gathering or Ghost Hunt if you are interested in ghost/horror anime.

Darryl

As a cat owner with a cat that looks almost exactly like Daijin, they captured that energy well. One minute they're smiling at the destruction of the world and your shit, the next they want to cuddle with you.

Darryl

As supernatural as the movie was, I love that at it's core it was more about different types of people, and just forming connections with them.

KingdorismHD

I seriously thought that the grandpa was him from the future, and he was sick due to the result of closing the gate. And I thought that the mom was her from the future and stayed back as a keystone. We were thinking too deep lmao 🤣

WockWizard

41:00 “drake bout to flop watch out 😭😭😭😭🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣😹😹😹😹😹😹😹😹

JohnnySmoke

If a movie has Radwimps on the soundtrack you know both the movie and music bout to be fire. my nigga Daijin :((((((((((((((((((((

Uly A O

I hope y'all will watch Belle on a livestream! I know it was an option on a poll the while back unless you watched it already on your own time.

dash12321

One of the coolest facts of the movie is unfortunately, lost on most of the audience outside of Japan. The movie actually references at least two real major earthquake events in Japan. *The earthquake that kills suzume's mother is the Tohoku earthquake. It caused a major tsunami as well, and it is the most powerful RECORDED earthquake in Japan at a magnitude 9.1 (you might better remember an associated event, the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear reactor accident). Even the date in suzume's diary reflects this (the date she started blacking it out was the same: March 11, 2011) *The earthquake referenced as taking place 100 years ago was the 1923 Great Kanto earthquake. Suzume premiered 2022/2023.

CentipedeKid

If you have a walking and talking chair I'm trusting whatever you say no matter how crazy. Mf could say Vladimir Tepest is coming and I'd be out of town that same night.

dash12321

The soundtrack playing during the tokyo climax gave me chills. Watching people going about their lives, unaware that they're all about to die, and having that creepy soundtrack playing was superbly artistic

poisonivybag

I feel like I understand this movie better after now watching it for the second time. I think some of the fantasy elements can come across overly complicated if you don't know much about the earthquakes references and Japanese mythology. Only part I'm not really a fan of in this movie is the high school student X college student. I think it takes away from the story.

Monae Durham

Yeah I was totally not into the whole romance plot line. Like she can have a crush, but let’s discourage that a little

Easy

Movies yes!, I would recommend reacting to "Maquia: When the Promised Flower Blooms" which is also pretty good.

poisonivybag

Them watching that as parents would hit completely different for them. That, or Wolf Children.

BREAD li

That DP shit made me tears LMAO.

Robert

@Monae Durham agreed. The ending could’ve worked just as well if she felt guilty about getting him into the situation, especially after learning he had a life and ambitions outside of his duties, which is why she did the finale instead of “being in love” or whatever. But I think I just end up head canon this rationale anyways. Also could argue they could’ve just not had the guy not like her in that way either. Think if they removed a few lines that could be considered true too.

LelaniG

I've been waiting for them to react to that movie! I was bawling

Jay

I love animals but this movie made me hate this cat so much.😭😭 trolling for no reason. Being a menace. It was ugly and creepy… Daijin was making everything worse in my opinion… Like you turn my man into a chair and runaway like it’s a game and we playing. Refuses to change him back. Or can’t… The cat had to die. 😭😭 Towards the end I felt bad for the cat and he grew on me.🥹 Upon my second time watching I realized it was suzume who set everything in motion. When she stalked this man… took the keystone out. it was all Suzume’s fault Like she asked Daijin to be her pet… He said bet… but homeboy gotta go turned him into a chair. Lol

Joshy Woshy

First time watching the movie and would say I don’t regret watching it with yall!

Dyastro

Please watch "The Boy and the Beast"!

Frazão

Blaming someone just for picking up a random stone poor girl 😂

Delinda Arts

MAN when lil suzeme was crying asking where her mom was, my eyes were sweating big time lmao

ethann

saw this in theaters! its such a good movie

Denn B

Fun Fact: the movie was originally supposed to be a love story between 2 girls but the producers shot the idea down. In spite shinkai(the director) made the now male lead considerably older and turned him into a chair for a majority of the movie

Ashley

def should watch children of the sea!

Lsg_Lani

Why auntie kinda bad tho👀

Alex Monascal

Y’all looking too deep into this movie, just appreciate it lol

Earphone Jack

I’m glad y’all enjoyed this movie! I really loved Suzume when I saw it in theaters last year! I hope y’all watch Belle next or soon! It’s such good movie! And watch it in the dub, too! Because the VA’s voice is fantastic!

Earphone Jack

They haven’t seen it yet. I want them to watch Belle on stream, too. And in the dub (not that I have an issue with the sub, I just saw it in the dub and the dub va’s voice was fantastic).

Earphone Jack

Another movie y’all should watch on stream (if y’all haven’t already seen it yourselves) Crazy Rich Asians. I loved that movie so much that I saw it four times in the theater. It’s so good.

Uly A O

No same. I bought the movie and really enjoy the dubbed version.

envy

Yeah, they gotta watch both them movies. Wolf Children is one of my all time faves. I watch it 2-3 times a year, like a comfort movie. Maquia is amazing as well; would be well worth the reaction.

envy

My problem was less-so the age gap (benefit of the doubt, I'm just assuming she's legal)... But just the way the love interest was completely pointless to the story. There was like no chemistry and it felt rushed. I much prefer "weathering with you" or "your name" in that respect. Just overall, the pacing of the movie was off to me. I do wonder if it has anything to do with the fact that the director originally wanted it to be wlw romance 🤔

poisonivybag

Ooh I hadn't heard about that! But yeah I agree the whole romance aspect is just pointless. At least with Your Name and Weathering With You the romance element is significant.

Rin Okumura

This is one of those movie that will mind F@ck you due to culture differences. I looked up the explanation for the story and who were the 2 cats represented and still, I'm mind F@cked.

Kablamoo101

bro at 1:10:03 thats a shark handheld vacuum i have the exact same one wtf lol

Reuben Filimaua

The worms themselves may be a reference to japanese mythology as a way to understand natural disasters. What I can take away from this film, is in the end.. the worms aren't gone. They're dormant for now until the next gate is opened. Just like real earthquakes and natural disasters. I love that the film's message is to accept worms/ natural disasters, tragedy and loss as a part of life. The gates and the worms can also be interpreted as a fantastical representation of trauma. Its always gonna be there, bubbling under the surface. The emotional trauma may resurface when you least expect it, causing you to lash out on others. But in order to move on.. we must learn how to cope with the loss by accepting it all as a part of life. Learn to let go of the past and "close the door." Life goes on. It may be dark now, but light will always shine again. You'll continue to grow up, you'll meet more people who can be that light in your life when you're at your darkest. Never give up on living and finding happiness. Sometimes the happiness was always there, but you just didn't see it. Such a fantastic film. I love it.

Derek G

Y’all gotta check out the boy and the heron

Zoe

Love Suzume. watched it when it came out also Wolf children is a must watch

Anonymous Snek

I remember watching this movie with a friend. I joked that her “mom” was actually her from the future and I was actually losing it when it turned out to actually be the case

Harmonial

idk why people think Suzume is her own mom from the future lol, she needs to be birthed somehow. The only loop is Suzume giving her younger self the chair which then leads the younger Suzume to leave through the door into the snowstorm to then being found by the aunt.

Thulani Mason

I got to see this in theaters in Japan when it first came out. Spectacular!
